A GUIDE FOR NEWCOMERS AT
COLORADO NATIONAL SPEEDWAY
To better help the "rookie
race fan" understand many of the speedway's policies, along with a quick
rundown on the racing procedures, here is a short guide that may even offer
some insight to all you "regulars" out there.
| |
Often, events may sell out
or reach a standing room only capacity. Since there is NO
reserved seating, it is recommended that you arrive well ahead of the
6:00PM starting time to assure a good seat. Single car Time Trial
qualifying laps usually begin two hours before the first race, so if you get to the Speedway
early enough, you'll also get an excellent preview of which drivers have
their machines really "hooked-up".
|
| |
Along with the Main
Concession Stand, be sure to check out the numerous satellite booths
throughout the facility which offer an incredible variety of quality
food and drink, all at a reasonable price. At the beer stands, you will
be required to show a photo I.D., and please be aware that
grandstand-side alcohol service generally stops just prior to the last
race of the evening.
|
| |
Food and non-alcoholic
beverages may be brought into the speedway, but food must be in a
disposable or collapsible container, since no hard-sided coolers are
allowed in the gate. Non-alcoholic beverages are permitted and must be
in a plastic container, smaller than two liters. We do not allow
aluminum cans or glass bottles of any kind, and video-recording devices
are also not permitted. Additionally, the consumption of alcoholic
beverages in the parking lot is illegal and strictly monitored. Open
Containers are not allowed at Colorado National Speedway.
|
|
*SPECIAL GRANDSTAND SEATING |
| |
A special "Family Section"
is included in the grandstands. It is a non-alcohol section that
can be found just north of the start/finish line. The handicap viewing
area is located on an elevated platform at the base of the grandstands
near turn one. The Pit-side grandstand also includes a handicapped
section at the north end.

| |
On a typical race night, a
majority of the divisions in competition will participate in
Time-Trials, Trophy Dashes, and qualifying events, followed by
a short intermission. The all-important Feature Races for each
division-which pay out big prize money and crucial championship
points-wrap up the evening. The starting line-up for the feature events
are determined by a random drawing to create a partially-inverted field,
which means that the fastest cars do not necessarily start in the front.
The announcer will inform you of each event's distance, and by keeping
an eye on the NASCAR scoreboard as the race progresses, you will know
how many laps remain.
|
| |
Listen closely to the
announcer, because if your ticket number is called out... you're a
winner! Just head on up to the Scoring Tower (above the main
grandstands) and spin the Prize Wheel to receive a great gift from one
of the speedway's sponsors. On many race nights during intermission, a
high-speed five-lap ride aboard our special two-seater Late Model is given
to a lucky entrant. If you are 18 or older and would like to register
for a chance to win, fill out an entry form at the table near the main
gate.
|
| |
For your own personal
safety, we ask that you use the aisles and walkways for their intended
purposes, and stay well back from the track fence at all times. Please
contact a security officer to retrieve any items lost underneath the
grandstands.
|
|
*VISIT THE PIT AREA AFTER THE RACES |
| |
To get an up-close look at
all the high speed machinery, fans of all ages are encouraged to visit
the pit area after the races. You'll also have the opportunity to meet
your favorite drivers, who are always eager to sign autographs and talk
about events of the evening. This is a great way to spend time while
traffic clears out after the final event.
|
| |
Your patience and courtesy
is greatly appreciated as you leave the track. The security officers
will help expedite your departure form the facility as quickly and
smoothly as possible, so please follow their directions. Drive Safely!
|
|
| |
In the event of inclement
weather, Colorado National Speedway officials will make every effort
possible to complete all races on the evening's schedule. If a fast-moving
storm enters the area, you may take shelter in your vehicle and will be
allowed back into the facility by showing your ticket stub when the
precipitation subsides. However; if at least half of the scheduled races
have been completed and forecasts call for little or no chance of clearing,
then the event will be deemed as "complete". If less than 50% of the races
have been run, the show is considered a "rain-out" and while no refunds will
be given, your ticket stub will be honored at any comparably-priced future
current-season event. Upon your next visit, just go to the ticket window and
exchange your stub for and admission pass. Often, conditions in the Denver
metro area vary greatly from those at the track, so if the weather looks
questionable, be sure and call the speedway hotline at (303) 665-4173 before
you come to the speedway, or
click here to check the weather at the track . |
