Welcome to Colorado National Speedway
We dodged a bullet from Mother Nature again for our 2nd night of April racing here at Colorado National Speedway. The sun was shining and a formidable bunch of drivers showed up to take advantage of the good weather. Darren Bucklen turned heads for the 2nd consecutive night as he took his 2nd ever win at the 2nd Late Model race of 2011.
Gillett Veterinary Clinic Late Models
Starting top 5: #31 Richard Smith, #33 Emett Grazier, #66 Darren Bucklen, #91 Chris Atkinson, #27 Roger Avants
4 laps into the 40 lap main event, #44 Darren Bucklen effortlessly came around the outside of #31 Rick Smith to take the lead. Moments later a piece of debris flew off of a vehicle bringing on caution. Bucklen and Smith went head to head at the restart with Bucklen once again taking the lead. The competition behind Bucklen was fierce as #74 Dan Savage, #31 Rick Smith and #27 Roger Avants battled for 2nd. When the dust settled, Savage had a grip on 2nd place but Smith wasn't far behind. 12 laps in, #33 Emett Grazier and #54 Joe James Jr got into each other going between turns 3 and 4 bringing on yet another yellow flag. Bruce Yackey used the restart to jump into 2nd place, leaving Dan Savage safely behind him. Another restart brought on by a spin out courtesy of #33 Emett Grazier saw Bucklen back into the lead as Bruce Yackey and Rick Smith battled door handle to door handle for 2nd place! Yackey took 2nd behind Bucklen with only 1 lap to go. At the checkered flag it was Darren Bucklen for his first win EVER at Colorado National Speedway. Yackey took 2nd followed by Roger Avants and Rick Smith.
ATTENTION CNS FANS: CNS will no longer allow outside food and beverage items to be brought into the main grandstand side, with the exception of clear plastic factory sealed water bottles in a soft-sided bag or cooler 16"x 16"x 8" or smaller. CNS has put off this decision for several years and remained one of the only professional sports venues in Denver that continued to allow outside food. Unfortunately the rising operational costs have forced CNS to implement this new policy for 2011. However, CNS will be offering many new and exciting food specials throughout the year. These specials will include outside food sponsors such as Chick-Fil-A, Quaker Steak & Lube and Famous Dave’s BBQ which will provide specialty items to be featured in our Diner on various nights at a discounted price. We have also added to our standard weekly menu options and will announce future specials on the website and signage at the main gate.A new addition to our Beer Gardens will be the installation of satellite television and flat screen TV’s. Professional sports programming and NASCAR events will be featured throughout the season.
Diner Burrito will now be serving Beer (Corona & Miller products) in addition to an expanded Mexican food menu.

Three forward mounted braces will be allowed for adjustment and security. There will be no rule pertaining to a required angle of the spoiler.

For more info on transponders read this.
As previously stated, Transponders will be required to participate at CNS in 2011; the following will provide guidelines for installation of the unit. For the purposes of technical inspection, a square will be laid out and painted on the ground to provide for easy measurement of the specifications that follow.
The transponder loop will be used for lap by lap scoring as well as finishing order results tabulation. For the close finishes that CNS tends to produce, results will be verified in post race tech and video results at the stripe. Transponder mounting outside of tolerances will be assessed a minimum of a two position penalty. A $50 transponder mounting protest will be allowed with $20 going to CNS and the remaining $30 going back to the protester if illegal and $30 going to the protested if deemed legal. If a protested car / truck is found illegal, a two positions penalty will be assessed. For all mounting, the unit must have an unobstructed view of the track surface with nothing under it.
For LM, PT, SP and SS divisions:
The unit must be mounted on the right rear frame rail 14 feet, 2 inches behind the forward most point of the race vehicle. A tolerance of plus or minus 1 inch will be allowed.
For the MOD division: (GAM and Mod-C)
A minimum of 106 inches behind the leading edge of the forward most bar on the bumper or sheet metal will be used. The unit can be mounted on the left rear or right rear.
For the Super Modified division:
Please contact Mr. Richard Castor Jr. for details
For the Legends division:
Please contact your Mr. John Ulander for official mounting instructions. The location that will be used is the right rear down bar behind the rear axle.
Figure 8 and Train divisions:
These divisions will not be utilizing this technology so a mounting dimension is not provided.

Effective at the completion of the third scheduled event of the 2011 CNS schedule, (Saturday April 23rd for Sportsman and Saturday April 30th for the Figure 8 division) all competitors will be required to participate on the Hoosier 700. The Hoosier 700 has proven to be a very repeatable tire which should help to balance competitor budgets. For races scheduled prior to and including the cut off dates mentioned above, competitors will have the option to run the Hoosier F-75 or the Hoosier 700 at their discretion. In either case, all tires used for competition at CNS must be purchased from CNS.
We sincerely hope that this change will not only provide for a less expensive racing season but also provide additional opportunities for racers in the Super Stock division to purchase take off tires should that be an option for them.
