(06-17-2012 Dacono, CO) A beautiful Colorado Sunday afternoon and a packed grandstand at Colorado National Speedway was the setting for the Rocky's Autos MonsterFest Monster Truck show. Track owner Jim Nordhougan proved once again that the 3/8ths paved oval of CNS is the perfect venue for a Monster Truck event. On this Father's Day trucks such as Bounty Hunter, Razin' Kane, The Ice Cream Man, The Red Baron, Maverick Monster, Virginia Mountaineer, and the Shagman, entertained the fans. Also on hand was a motorcycle stunt show, Tuff Trucks, and the wild and crazy DEMO X.

10 great places for small-town NASCAR racing

NASCAR isn't just about enormous coliseums and mammoth crowds. Summer brings racing to more than 50 regional tracks (hometracks.nascar.com), where the atmosphere is small-town and family friendly. "These are local tracks, local fans and local competitors," says Dick Berggren, a NASCAR pit reporter for Fox, and executive editor of Speedway Illustrated magazine. "It's a different experience." Some speedways also host NASCAR regional series, letting crowds see up-and-coming stars. He shares some favorite tracks with Larry Bleiberg for USA TODAY.

Located north of Denver, the paved oval track is a NASCAR leader in social media, updating fans during races through its website and on Twitter. (Its handle: @cnsracing). (Dacono, CO - 04-28-2012) CNS late model veterans Rick Smith and Bruce Yackey put on an amazing display of racing as they crossed the finish line side by side in the Gillett Vet Late Model main event at Colorado National Speedway. When the dust settled it was Smith taking the hard fought win over Yackey in one of the more memorable events on the 3/8ths paved CNS oval.
