Chris Eggleston is Sunoco's Champion
Saturday, 24 July 2010 20:47
Following up the disaterous Late Model pile up which totalled half the field on July 10th, the Late Models brought out an impressive 14 cars. They raced in style this week with action so intense you could throw a blanket over the top 5. Savage, Yackey and Hults all spent some time in the lead but it was NASCAR up-and-comer Chris Eggleston who stuck it for the win!

Bruce Yackey blew the doors off the competition as he sailed into a 5 car length lead to start the 40 lap Main Event. The action at the front of the field was intense until contact toward the rear of the field between #33 Emett Grazier and #63 Butch Tilton sent Tilton full throttle into the wall in turn 4. Tilton emerged from the wreck to the cheers of the crowd and a red flag signaled a double file restart. Dan Savage and Bruce Yackey drag raced for the restart and Savage took over the lead. Roger Avants, Ronnie Hults and Chris Eggleston followed Savage as Yackey dropped back to 5th. At lap 25 Ronnie Hults took the lead from Dan via the outside. Eggleston followed suit, taking 2nd behind Hults. Two simultaneous drag races ensued as Eggleston and Hults duked it out for 1st with Savage and Avants battling behind for 3rd. With only 5 laps to go, Chris Eggleston blazed past points leader Ronnie Hults for the lead. Avants emerged victorious in the battle for 3rd and Bruce Yackey found the line into 4th. At the checkered it was Chris Eggleston for the win from an 11th place start! Ronnie Hults took 2nd followed by Avants, Yackey and Savage.

#46 Rick Lothert, #17 Jeremy Barclay, #36 Matt Burton, #39 John Nugent and #19 Scott Miller made their way to the front of the field early on, hitting lapped traffic before the 25 lapper was even half finished. Hard charger #00 Dennis Edwards had made it into the 7th spot from his dead last start just as trouble midfield lead to a yellow flag. Another yellow was ruled the fault of Edwards and he was sent to the rear of the field. Edwards didn't let it get him down as he charged through the field when green flag racing resumed. Up front, Jeremy Barclay was looking on the outside of Lothert but another yellow lined them up to try it one more time. Lothert stuck his lead for another A Main win and another flawlessly executed Lothert shuffle. Edwards took 12th place out of 29 cars.
Sunoco Grand American Modified
It was a clean Main Event for the GAMs. #69 Forest Smith, #08 Jace Hansen and #77 Jeff Hansen maintained their respective paces as the top 3 for the 30 lapper. With 5 laps to go Jace was all over Smith, making multiple attempts on his inside. Thanks to some fancy maneuvering around heavy lapped traffic, Smith held onto his lead eventually crossing the checkered first, followed closely by Jace and Jeff Hansen.
CARC Modified Coupes
15 Mod Coupes hit the track wingless tonight in homage to the open wheel racing days of old. #09 Frank Denning had a tight grip on the lead with #55 Gary Land following a few car lengths behind. #95 Cris Muhler who started in the back of the pack was carefully making his way up the field, passing car after car until he had 4th place. A yellow flag brought on a restart, closing the gap between the leaders. After a few laps back into green flag racing, Muhler had taken 2nd behind Denning. With only 5 laps to go Muhler was on Denning like stink on a skunk. With two laps to go Muhler dove under Denning in turn three in an attempt to take the lead but Chris got a bit loose which allowed Denning to cruise to victory. We always love to see these guys race without the wings and wish they'd do it more often!
