sportsman-finish-8-21-2010They say the 3rd time's the charm, but taking his 3rd Late Model win in a row at Colorado National Speedway didn't come easy for Roger Avants. He held off Robertson and Yackey and grabbed the win! As for the Sportsman, Blackie Blackard took the win by the skin of his teeth over the tenacious Tommy Roe, Jeff Walbaum and Bruce Borchardt.

#12 Bruce Yackey had the pole with #27 Roger Avants on the outside and #22 Chris Eggleston had the inside of row 2. Avants sped to the lead to start the 40 lap A Main. NASCAR up-and-comer Chris Eggleston darted past Bruce Yackey and proceeded to take on Avants for the top spot. Chris and Roger rode doorhandle to doorhandle round several laps but Chris Eggleston spun out between turns 3 and 4 and was sent to the rear of the field. Avants took the lead on the restart and #11 Darren Robertson came out of nowhere, passing Bruce Yackey for 2nd place at lap 20. Robertson and Yackey stuck to the tail of the #27 but they just couldn't pass him. Avants took his 3rd consecutive Late Model win at Colorado National Speedway followed by Robertson, Yackey, Ronnie Hults and Dan Savage.

Pair-A-Dice Sportsman
#46 Blackie Blackard, #62 Jim Bob Rogers, #84 Bruce Borchardt, #6 Tommy Roe and #8 Jeff Walbaum broke away from the rest of the field for a 5-way fight for the lead. Blackie had a good hold on the top spot when contact midfield brought on caution. Blackie took the outside for the restart and ran away with the lead while Tommy Roe fought a winning battle for 2nd over Jim Bob, but another yellow 5 laps later brought 'em back together and Blackie took the outside once again. This time around Tommy Roe sprang to the lead and Blackie was in for a fight. The top 4 rode in formation with equally intense battles for 1st and 3rd going on simultaneously. Tommy Roe was just barely inching out Blackie for first while Walbaum and Borchardt rode nose to nose for 3rd. Blackie took over the lead coming around turn 4 of the last lap and finished first. Tommy Roe finished second followed by Walbaum and Borchardt.

Behind him Smith and #77 Jeff Hansen dueled for 2nd. The best dang Grand American Modified drivers in Colorado wrapped the race up without a single lap of caution. Jace Hansen won by half a lap, Jeff Hansen took 2nd followed by Smith, #4 Mark Sopr and #51 Brad Tilton.
