The Pepsi Memorial Day Shootout was shortened due to rain but the fans were treated to a great night of racing as Lee Kemmit won the Sportsman main, Jack Nugent won the Super Stock main, and Danny Medina won the RMLRA Legend main event.Twenty Two Legend cars lined up for the Pepsi Memorial Day Shootout. Car #16 Tim Faatz and #22 Chris Eggleston were pacing the field on the front row at the drop of the green flag. Chris Eggleston built a large lead early but #15 Danny Medina had reeled him in by lap 10 and took the lead from Eggleston. With thirteen laps to go Medina maintained a comfortable lead but the real race was for second as Eggleston had his hands full with #66 Kyle Clegg and #58 Kyle Ray. With three laps to go Kyle Clegg had moved into second and he looked fast enough to catch Medina but it was too little too late as Danny Medina took home the win.
Pair A Dice Interior Finishes Sportsman
A stellar field of Sportsman lined up for the 30 lap feature event. #98 Lee Kemmit who had been fast all night long, worked his way into the lead from the outside of row two. With only 10 laps to go Lee had built up a huge lead over GTI teammate #6 Tommy Roe. #84 Bruce Borchardt and #26 Bear Lynch were 3rd and 4th and were putting on a great battle for the CNS crowd. With 4 laps to go #02 Rick Hunt spun in turn two and backed hard into the safety barrier in turn two. Rick's car suffered heavy damage but he was able to continue. That set up a dash to the finish with #98 Kemmit, #6 Roe, #26 Bear Lynch, #8 Jeff Walbaum and #84 Bruce Borchardt all fighting for the win. While Tommy Roe gave it a great effort he wasn't able to sneak by Kemmit who took the well deserved checkered.
NTC Logistics Super Stocks.
Twenty two Super Stocks lined up for the 25 lap main event in the Pepsi Memorial Day Shootout. #13 "Racin'" Jason Morris and #05 David Rothrock filled out the front row with #39 Jack Nugent and #19 Scott Miller in the second row. Rothrock lead through lap 10 but that's when Jack Nugent slipped by him on the double file restart caused by a stalled car in the pit lane. Nobody could catch Nugent who won the race, yet #46 "Lightning" Rick Lothert was just able to nip Rothrock for second place.
Gillet Vet Clinic Late Models
With only 16 laps complete in the 100 lap Pepsi Memorial Day Shootout, the rain began to fall at Colorado National Speedway. With the chilly temperature, drying the track was sure to be a long term project therefore NASCAR Officials were forced to cancel the Late Model portion of the event.
