Dacono CO June 4th 2011 - The weather was beautiful, the stands were packed and the racing was amazing for Coors Night at CNS. Lee Kemmit furiously came from the back of the field to beat teammate Tommy Roe by mere inches in the Pair A Dice Interior Finishes Sportsman main event, thrilling the CNS fans.
Pair A Dice Interiors Sportsmans
18 equally matched sportsman lined up for a 30 lap main event with blisteringly fast Lee Kemmit in the #98 GTI machine on the inside of row one and multi time winner #26 Bear Lynch on the outside. Kemmit was leaking fluid and had to leave the track but returned under caution to the back of the field. On the restart #43 Stan Griffin and #84 Bruce Borchardt made contact in turn one which sent several cars spinning and crashing. #17 Dave Deines lost his motor and dropped oil all over the track which brought out the red flag as NASCAR officials cleaned up the mess. The long cleanup lead officials to shorten the race to 20 laps. At the halfway mark, Tommy Roe had a good lead but he was now being hounded by his teammate in the 98 car Lee Kemmit who had come from the rear of the field to battle for the lead. Kemmit and Roe raced side by side for several laps, bringing the CNS fans to their feet. When the checkered flag flew Kemmit had pulled in front of Roe by mere inches to take the win.
Crowd favorite #36 "the Pebble" Matt Burton paced the field with #27 Roger "the iceman" Avants on the outside for the start of the Snap-On Tools Pro Truck feature event. Avants built an early lead while Burton lost several positions during the first few laps. #34 Rudy Vanderwal, #26 Bear Lynch, #09 Justin Simonson and #32 Mark Neff all battled Burton for 2nd, 3rd, and 4th putting on a thrilling show for the CNS fans. #26 Bear Lynch who had worked his way all the way up from 10th starting position was knocking on Roger's door at the halfway point of the race. But in the end, true to his nickname "the iceman", Roger Avants held a perfect line to take home the trophy. Lynch finished 2nd and Vanderwal, Simonson and Neff rounded out the top five.
The Figure 8's put on a marvelous main event which had the CNS crowd buzzing with tons of action in the "X". Heat race winners #23 Big Al Duran and #24 Smokin' Joe Martinez lined up on the front row at the start of the 20 lap Figure 8 main event. After several intense laps of racing door handle to door handle Smokin' Joe was able to sneak by Big Al Duran and went on to win the event. In winner's circle Smokin' Joe said in regard to Big Al "I was learning from his mistakes and he made one big mistake and I took him down". While the race for the lead was exciting it was upstaged by the dozens of close misses in the "X" which had track announcer Marc Moser's heart beating like a baby rabbit.
With Mod Coupes winning both qualifiers over the Grand American Modifieds it appeared as if the CARC mod coupes had found the faster setup. #95 Cris Muhler won his heat and #12 Jamie Bubak had taken care of business in her heat. But it was Muhler in his yellow mod coupe who built a large lead early, followed by GAM #22 Mike Castagno. Cris was able to navigate through traffic to take the mod coupe win. 22 Castagno finished 2nd thereby winning the GAM division. #12 Jamie Bubak finished 3rd and #20 Rich Bubak finished 4th.
Multi-time ERA supermodified champion Richie Castor Jr. started on the pole in this 25 lap feature event at CNS in his beautiful BigWestRacing.com #2 supermodified. After 5 laps Castor had built a large lead but young Chris Sheil in the #33 machine was reeling him in and #3 Harold Evans was close behind in 3rd place. Evans worked his way around Sheil and gave his teammate Castor a great run for his money as Castor ran into lapped traffic and Evans pulled along side. But the crafty Castor held off Evans, Sheil, and #14 Joe Gallegos to take the checkered.
DEMO X
For the first time ever CNS combined motocross with a demolition derby and econo stock race as 8 cars, trucks, and vans all raced in dirt, pavement and over jumps bashing and crashing their way to the checkered flag. The DEMO X was a wild way to usher in a new sport and the DEMO X cars will return to CNS on June 19th during the Father's Day Monster Truck event.
