Dan Savage holds off Roger Avants at CNS
Saturday, 11 June 2011 20:28
(Dacono CO, 06-11-2011) A warm June evening at Colorado National Speedway was on tap for the Quaker Steak and Lube night that saw Late Model driver Dan Savage run a perfect race taking the win over Roger Avants, Bruce Yackey, Darren Bucklen, and Chris Eggleston.
Gillet Vet Late Models
At the start of the 40 lap late model main event only 4 points separated #12 Bruce Yackey and second place #66 Darren Bucklen but it was #74 Dan Savage and #27 Roger Avants who jumped out to the front of the pack in the early stage of the race. As the leaders approached lapped traffic it appeared as if that might be just the thing the "Ice Man" Avants would need to pass Savage and take the win but the Savageman ran the perfect race and cruised to the finish for the win. Roger Avants finished 2nd, #12 Bruce Yackey came in 3rd while #66 Darren Bucklen, and #22 Chris Eggleston rounded out the top 5. Young Bradley Tilton in the #4 late model finished an impressive 6th and also won his heat race.
Qualifying race winners: 4 Bradley Tilton & 12 Bruce Yackey
NTC Logistics Super Stocks
Super Stock #15 Troy Witthar and #39 Jack Nugent started on the front row of the 25 lap main event. On the second lap of the race car #24 Dave Coblentz spun in turn three. He stalled as the leaders came around forcing them to slow down to avoid him. "Racin" Jason Morris spun off the track right in the direction of track photographer Joe Starr which thrilled the CNS fans as Joe scampered for safety. But it was #39 Jack Nugent that ran a clean smooth race and grabbed the win and the trophy. 05 David Rothrock ran strong and finished 2nd and #7 Ethan Penrod held off the hard charging #13 Racin Jason Morris and #61 John Humphry rounded out the top 5.
Qualifying race winners: #19 Scott Miller & #13 Jason Morris
RMLRA Legends
Legend car #15 Danny Medina methodically worked his way past pole sitter #58 Kyle Ray from his sixth place starting spot. It appeared as if he wouldn't be challenged, but #22 Chris Eggleston had other plans as he pulled up on Medina's bumper at the halfway mark of the race. Yet the savvy Medina found his groove and began to pull away from Eggleston, #06 Mike Gallegos, and #3 Wayne Barlock. The hard charger of the race was #66 Kyle Clegg who started near the rear of the field because of trouble in his heat race but came from the back in exciting fashion to round out the top five.
Qualifying race winners: #3 Wayne Barlock Jr. & #15 Danny Medina
Snap-On Tools Pro Trucks
Only nine Snap-On Tools Pro Trucks were on hand to challenge for the 30 lap main event. #32 Mark Neff and #36 Matt Burton were on the front row with #26 Bear Lynch and #27 Roger Avants directly behind them. Bear grabbed the early lead and built a commanding 10 car advantage on the "Pebble" Matt Burton who was trying to hold off Neff for 2nd. The Trucks went caution free and Bear Lynch took the checkered followed by Burton, Neff, Avants, and #15 Mike Bernard.

The #67 Train wins in a wild and wacky Witthar Racing Trains main event.
