Roe splits lapped traffic to take the win (Starr photo)Tommy Roe jumped in a brand new car and won night one of the MID-SEASON Championship at Colorado National Speedway in the Sportsman division. After the great racing on the track the huge crowd at CNS was treated to a spectacular fireworks show.

Pair A Dice Interiors Sportsman
A beautiful field of 19 Sportsman lined up for an epic 50 lap Mid-Season Championship Feature event at Colorado National Speedway. #58 Jeff Webb was on the pole and last year's champion #46 Eric "Blackie" Blackard was on the outside. The driver to beat this season #98 Lee Kemmit was inside row two and #8 Jeff Walbaum was on the outside. On the very first lap, car #62 Jim Bob Rogers and #02 Rick Hunt made contact sending Jim Bob into the wall ending his night. On the restart the familiar green #46 of Eric Blackard had the lead followed closely by #8 Walbaum. 15 laps into the feature and teammates Lee Kemmit and #6 Tommy Roe worked their way around Walbaum and Blackard and were battling each other for the lead. #58 Jeff Webb made hard contact with the wall and sent a shower of sparks down the backstraight with 29 laps remaining in the race ending his night. The double-file restart pitted GTI teammates Kemmit and Roe side by side but it was the rocket-fast Kemmit that maintained a slight lead until Kemmit's car began to sound rough and pulled off the track ending his winning streak and relinquishing the lead to Roe. The only thing between Roe and the win was a pack of lapped cars that were not going to move out of the way, Roe made a daring pass splitting the lapped cars and bringing the crowd to their feet. Tommy took the win followed by #8 Jeff Walbaum, #46 Eric Blackard, #41 Dale Reeder, and #45 Grant Simpson rounded out the top 5.

Cris Muhler dominates the modifieds at CNS (Starr photo)SUNOCO Modifieds

Late model driver #95 Cris Muhler looked extremely fast winning his heat race. For the Main, he started on the outside of row one with GAM #44 Justin Case on the pole. At the start of the race Muhler jumped out to the lead but GAM #08 Jace Hansen was giving him heat in 2nd place. Another late model regular (last years champion) "Speedy" Ronnie Hults was in the #09 mod coupe tonight and was starting 7th but dropped out early with mechanical problems.  With just 6 laps to go #71 Jim Bredeson spun into the infield hitting a tractor tire barrier hard enough to flip the tractor tire on it's side and creating a massive dirt cloud. This setup a double-file restart and a sprint to the finish between mod coupe Muhler and GAM Jace Hansen. Cris Muhler took the win followed by Hansen, #77 Jeff Hansen, #12 Jamie Bubak, and #55 Gary Land filled out the top 5.

Only 9 Snap-On Tools Pro Trucks started the 30 lap main event. #27 Roger Avants jumped out to an early lead. #09 Justin Simonson hit the backstretch wall coming out of turn two bringing out the caution after just two laps. On the restart #36 "the pebble" Matt Burton took the lead and battled door handle to door handle with Avants for a couple laps until the "ice man" Avants regained the lead. #32 Mark Neff, #5 Troy Witthar and #34 Rudy Vanderwal battled for third place a straightaway behind second place Burton. When the checkered flag flew it was Avants with an easy win extending his point lead in the Pro Truck division.

X-actionA Comfort Shack Figure 8's
Former track champion #4 Joe Matock was on the pole alongside #28 Vic Johnson at the start of the 20 lap A Comfort Shack Figure 8 main event. #23 Big Al Duran and the stars and stripes of #50 Justin McKeachie occupied row two. As the race developed Matlock held the lead over Vic Johnson. Current points leader #24 Joe Martinez worked his way around Duran and then Johnson for 2nd place. The crowd cheered wildly as the action in the "X" was the most amazing it had been all year long. The talented figure 8 drivers were missing each other by fractions of an inch, lap after lap. A late race caution bunched the field as the drivers prepared for a green, white, checkered finish. Smokin' Joe went high, then low, in a furious attempt to pass Matlock but couldn't find his way past Matlock who took the win. Martinez finished second, Vic Johnson third, Big Al Duran grabbed fourth, and Justin Mckeachie rounded out the top five.
