New faces in victory circle excite the crowd during Rocky's Autos night at CNS
Sunday, 11 September 2011 00:00
Sportsman ace Lee Kemmit is a fixture in victory circle this year, Cris Muhler's mod coupe, and Mark Neff's Pro Truck also returned to victory circle. But it was the new faces in victory circle that stole the show on this night. John Humphrey won the Super Stock feature, Tom Evans grabbed the trophy for the Grand American Modifieds, and Jared "Wally" Wall found pay dirt in the Figure 8s.

PAIR A DICE INTERIOR FINISHES SPORTSMAN
Jace Hansen jumped into the #72s Sportsman car and he was outside #84 Bruce Borchardt for the start of the PAIR-A-DICE INTERIOR FINISHES Sportsman main event. Borchardt leaped out to a large lead early but it was the #98 of Lee Kemmit who was right behind him. On lap four Kemmit took the lead and began to pull away. Kemmit's GTI teammate #6 Tommy Roe then pulled up beside Borchardt and there was a brief battle for second place until Roe secured the spot. Last years champion #46 Eric "blackie" Blackard moved into 3rd at the halfway mark but by this point Kemmit's lead was huge. Kemmit cruised to yet another win with Roe finishing in 2nd. Blackard was 3rd, Borchardt was 4th and #8 Jeff Walbaum rounded out the top 5.
Qualifying race winners: #6 Tommy Roe & #98 Lee Kemmit
NTC LOGISTICS SUPER STOCKS
#77 Kevin Keller and #61 John Humphrey paced the field at the start of the NTC Logistics Super Stock main event. A series of caution flags marred the start of the race but after things got going, three and four wide racing thrilled the CNS faithful. Humphrey held the race lead with #7 Ethan Penrod in tow. Points leader #39 Jack Nugent was sent to the rear of the field for spinning out #3 Michael Cox but with 10 laps to go Nugent had already moved back up into the top 5. Eventually Nugent moved into position to take yet another win however it was John Humphrey who held off Nugent to grab his first victory at CNS. Nugent came in second, #13 Jason Morris was 3rd, #15x Scott Rhoades was 4th and #7 Ethan Penrod came in 5th.

SNAP-ON TOOLS PRO TRUCKS
#5 Troy Witthar was inside row one and #79 John Jacob was along side at the drop of the green flag in the Snap-On Tools Pro Truck main event. By lap five Witthar was getting heavy pressure from #09 Justin Simonson and #27 Roger Avants. Nine laps in Simonson and Witthar made contact coming out of turn 4 and sent Trucks spinning in every direction down the front straight. Justin's truck suffered damage and could not continue. On the restart #27 Avants was able to get by Whittar and take the lead. Heat race winner #36 Matt Burton made contact with the wall with 17 laps to go and brought out the caution flag, sadly for Burton that ended his chance at a trophy. On the restart #32 Mark Neff who had come from the pack of the pack snuck by Avants and #7 Adam Deines moved up into third. When the race ended it was Mark Neff taking the win followed by Deines, Avants, #79 John Jacobs, and #0 Billy Harkins.

A COMFORT SHACK FIGURE 8s
Normally in the Figure 8 division the fans are brought to the edge of their seat for the near misses in the "X", however tonight the Figure 8'ers thrilled the crowd with one of the closest finishes of the year. Current point leader #24 Smokin' Joe Martinez ran into bad luck halfway through the Figure 8 main event when he left the track with a flat right front tire. Yet all eyes were on #52 Jared "Wally" Wall who was leading the pack in thrilling fashion drifting his way through the turns. With just 5 laps to go #10 Nick Martinez had caught Wally and was giving him a battle for the win. Nick tried high, Nick tried low, but Wally was holding him off lap after lap. On the final lap Nick pulled up next to Wally and it looked as if Martinez would get the last lap victory but Wally went sideways and stomped on the throttle finding just enough bite to cross the finish line first by mere inches over Nick "the quick" Martinez.
Qualifying race winners: #23 Big Al Duran & #24 Joe Martinez
SUNOCO MODIFIEDS
The SUNOCO CNS Modified main event started out with a minor crash in turn three as GAM #3c Mark Chisholm, mod coupes #12 Jamie Bubak and #09r Darren Robertson all suffered damage. #24 Chad Guilford inherited the lead after race leader #20 Rich Bubak left the track with mechanical problems. Guilford couldn't hold off the charge of #55 Gary Land and #95 Cris Muhler as the two of them went past and began to battle for the lead. Unfortunately for Land a lapped car failed to move over and let him bye which allowed Muhler to build a straightaway length lead. Muhler then cruised to the win followed by Land, Guilford, #11 Tom Evans who was the winner of the Grand American Modified division, and #77 Jeff Hansen rounded out the top five.
Qualifying race winners: #95 Cris Muhler & #77 Jeff Hansen.
