(Dacono, CO - 09-17-2011) On Mike's Hard Lemonade night at Colorado National Speedway clean green flag racing was the theme in every division as Rick Smith took the late model main, Lee Kemmit won the Sportsman division, Kyle Clegg was first in the legends, and Harold Evans won the ERA Supermodified feature event.
GILLET VET CLINIC LATE MODELS
For the first 10 laps #66 Darren Bucklen and #31 Rick Smith thrilled the CNS fans, battling door handle to door handle. #22 Chris Eggleston joined the battle on lap 12 and the three of them put on an incredible show. On lap 22 Smith finally secured the lead leaving Bucklen to battle with Eggleston for 2nd. Another awesome battle on the track was #27 Roger Avants, #74 Dan Savage, and #12 Bruce Yackey who raced hard for 4th position. Back up front Rick Smith eventually built a 5 car length lead over Bucklen and Eggleston. At the checkered flag it was #31 Rick Smith, #66 Darren Bucklen, #22 Chris Eggleston, #74 Dan Savage, and #27 Roger Avants. Current point leader Dan Savage was excited to lock up the NASCAR Colorado State Championship but Savage is still in a heated battle for the track championship with #12 Bruce Yackey, #27 Roger Avants, and #31 Rick Smith.
Qualifying race winners: #66 Darren Bucklen & #31 Rick Smith
PAIR A DICE INTERIOR SPORTSMAN
#6 Tommy Roe jumped out to an early lead in the PAIR A DICE INTERIOR FINISHES Sportsman main event but it was his teammate #98 Lee Kemmit who took the low line and dove under Roe to take the lead on lap 8. With less than 10 laps to go Tommy's car suffered mechanical problems and he was forced to retire from the race. In the late stages of the race #8 Jeff Walbaum made a valiant effort to catch Kemmit but in the end Kemmit held of Walbaum to grab another trophy. Walbaum was 2nd, 3rd place went to #41 Dale Reeder, 4th was #02 Rick Hunt and #46 Eric "blackie" Blackard was 5th.
Qualifying race winners: #8 Jeff Walbaum & #6 Tommy Roe
RMRLA LEGENDS
22 first class legend cars rolled out on to the track for the main event. Heat race winners #58 Kyle Ray and #34 Chris "mini coop" Cooper were on the front row. Cooper led lap one but #66 Kyle Clegg took command on lap two. Behind Clegg #8 Jon Krizman and #22 Chris Eggleston were battling for position. Eggleston got by Krizman and began to track down Clegg. But as the race wound down Eggleston had not made up any ground on Clegg and was battling Ray for second place. The race went caution free but at the finish Clegg spun down the front straight crossing the finish line backwards in a cloud of smoke. Eggleston nipped Ray for second. 4th place went to Krizman and #34 Cris Cooper came in 5th.
Qualifying race winners: #58 Kyle Ray & #34 Chris Cooper
ERA SUPERMODIFIEDS
On lap nine of the ERA Supermodified main event #33 Chris Sheil made a hair raising pass on #8 Larry LaPointe to take the lead. Yet it was the familiar purple #3 of Harold Evans that was right behind Sheil and challenging for the lead. A couple laps later Evans used a slower car to get by Sheil who had to pitch the car sideways to avoid major contact coming out of turn four. From there Evans cruised to a big win followed by #33 Chris Sheil, #2 Richie Castor Jr., #8 LaPointe, and #02 Johnny Pickard.
Qualifying race winners: #8 Larry LaPointe & #02 Johnny Pickard
WITTHAR RACING TRAINS
The Two Two Twain made a last lap pass over the #67 train to win one of the closest trains races of all time at CNS. It was a great way to finish a night that honored Hall of Fame racer and official Johnny Witthar. The Beer Garden was buzzing with over flowing beers and fellowship for Johnny's fantastic celebration.
