Sunday, 08 April 2012 08:32
(04-07-2012, Dacono, CO) 2012 began where 2011 left off with with Lee Kemmit taking home all the hardware in the CNS Pair A Dice Sportsman division. Kemmit came from outside the third row and worked his way passed Dave Dienes to take the lead just before the halfway mark of the race and he never looked back.

Pair-A-Dice Sportsman
On a brisk spring night a great field of Pair A Dice Sportsman cars lined up for a 30 lap feature event. 2011 Track Champion #98 Lee Kemmit had set quick time and also won the FAST DASH but the inversion placed him back in 6th starting spot for the main event. When the race started #17 Dave Dienes and impressive rookie #7 Ethan Penrod paced the field racing door handle to door handle until Dienes finally assumed the lead from Penrod. It wasn't long however until the familiar back and orange #98 of Lee Kemmit started poking his nose near Dienes's bumper. The fans were thrilled as the race went caution free and Dienes did everything in his power to hold off the charging Kemmit. The #98 GTI Dodge eventually got around Dienes with 17 laps to go, but Dienes wasn't going down easy, he hounded Kemmit the rest of the race and young Penrod was a close 3rd. On the final corner of the final lap Dienes tried to get under Kemmit to regain the lead but the #17 of Dienes got loose and caused him to hit the front straight wall with tremendous impact. Dienes's car got airborne and spun sideways schreeching to a stop near the infield. Dave was okay but his car was destroyed and he wasn't able to cross the line which gave 2nd place to #7 Ethan Penrod. 3rd place went to Kemmit's teammate #6 Tommy Roe while #8 Jeff Walbaum took 4th. Rounding out the top 5 was the #84 of Bruce Borchardt.

CARC Modifieds
Last years track champion and race favorite #55 Gary Land had trouble early in the race and pulled off under an early caution flag causing him to fall a lap down. Gary's misfortune gave opportunity to newcomer and former midget driver #34 Randy Whitman who now had a strangle hold on the lead of the race. #12 Jamie Bubak was second but lost that spot to the #44x of Mike Wood. Sportsman ace Eric "Blackie" Blackard in the green #46 was now pushing Bubak for 3rd spot. By the halfway mark of the race Whitman had built a large lead on second place Wood. Whitman never looked back and won his first ever attempt at a Mod Coupe feature event. The top five at the line were #34 Randy Whitman, #44x Mike Wood, #46 Eric Blackard, #12 Jamie Bubak, and #38 Greg McLaughlin.

NTC Logistics Super Stocks
#3 Michael Cox grabbed the early lead in the first Super Stock main event of 2012 but last years champion #39 Jack Nugent was working his way up through the field to challenge Cox for the lead. Cox and Nugent then began to slice and dice their way through traffic and it appeared as if Cox might be able to hold off the dominate Nugent. With just 6 laps to go Cox and Nugent approached a large bundle of lapped cars and as they split the slower cars in daring fashion (Cox low and Nugent high) Nugent came out with the lead as the fans cheered wildly. From that point forward #39 Jack Nugent cruised to the win. #3 Cox followed with #88 David Rothrock, #61 John Humphrey, and #13 Racin' Jason Morris rounding out the top 5.

A Comfort Shack Figure 8s
A small field of Figure 8's hit the track for the first race of the 2012 season. Car #26 Nick Martinez jumped out to the early lead followed by #15 Jereme Wall. But it was last years Champion Smokin' Joe Martinez who was working his way up through the field from his row 3 starting spot. Before the halfway mark Smokin' Joe had taken the lead from Nick "the quick". Smokin' Joe ended up running away with the main event to take the first win of the 2012 season and pick up where he left off last year. #26 Nick Martinez came in second, #15 Jereme Wall was 3rd, #23 Al Duran was 4th and #17 Harry Livermore Jr. came in 5th.
