Lightning strikes at CNS in both the Super Stock and Late Model main events

(Dacono CO 05-05-2012) Lightning Ric Lothert returned to CNS to dominate the Super Stock main event and prove once again his yellow and green #46 is the car to beat any time it rolls off the trailer. And lightning struck again in the late model feature but this time by Mother Nature forcing the race night to be shortened by the CNS Track Officials for the safety of the loyal CNS patrons.

Gillett Vet Late Models
On what started out to be an absolutely gorgeous Colorado May evening the Gillett Vet Late Models made their 3rd appearance of the year at Colorado National Speedway and another great field of 24 cars lined the pits. Quick time was set by #39 Jack Nugent with a 16.121 yet it was the familiar black and green #12 of Bruce Yackey who won the FAST DASH and picked up an extra 3 championship points. In the other DASH race #11 Darren Robertson and #95 Todd Finley put on a great show for the fans but in the end it was Robertson taking the win and grabbing 3 points.

The main event started with a vicious crash when the field bunched up as they took the green flag, going into turn one both Vecchiarelli cars Ed Sr. and Ed Jr. ended up upside down in turn one. #39 Jack Nugent was also involved in the crash yet thankfully all three drivers walked away uninjured. During the cleanup mother nature decided she was going to leave her mark on the evening and the rain began to fall and a lightning storm began to move in on the paved 3/8ths mile. Sadly, due to the rain and the lightning the race was called early.

NTC Logistic Super Stocks
Michael Cox in the #3 Super Stock took the early lead in the NTC Logistics Super Stock main event but young Kyle Patee in the #90 pulled up on his bumper and was challenging for the lead. Former track champ #46 "Lightning" Rick Lothert worked his way around second place Patee and began to pressure Cox for the lead. With 16 laps to go Lothert had made the pass and was navigating lapped traffic with precision. Perennial favorite #39 Jack Nugent was not about to let Lothert walk away with the race and pulled up on his bumper to fight for the win. #88 David Rothrock and FAST DASH winner #13 Jason Morris moved into 3rd and 4th. With five laps to go Nugent's car suffered mechanical problems and pulled off the track allowing Lothert to cruise unchallenged for the win. Rothrock finished 2nd, Morris was 3rd. #3 Cox and #90 Patee rounded out the top five.

RMLRA Legend Cars
#6 Scotty Scott and #34 Chris Cooper paced the field for the RMLRA Legend main event but on the first lap a hard crash at the back of the field involving #36 Josh Richards and #21 Ryan Jones brought out the red flag. On the restart it was last years champ #66 Kyle Clegg taking the extreme high groove to assert himself into the lead. Clegg quickly built a large lead but quick time setter #58 Kyle Ray moved into second place and started to track down Clegg for the lead. With 15 laps to go car #14 Jereme Wall blew his engine sending oil behind him causing #85 Cole MacKwen to spin and #25 Adam Pechman to hit the turn one wall extremely hard, Pechman's car slide into the infield in a shower of sparks, Pechman was okay but his night was done. When the race resumed #66 Kyle Clegg held off a charging #15 Danny Medina for the win.
