Jeff Walbaum and Lee Kemmit battle in the Sportsman main event

(06-23-2012 Dacono, CO) In the preliminary races at CNS during the Coyote Gold Margarita night the temperature on the track was pushing 140 degrees. Yet when the sun set over the rocky mountains it setup one of the most gorgeous night's of short track racing in recent memory. The action on the track was just as hot when Jeff Walbaum and Lee Kemmit battled side by side to the finish in the Sportsman main event.

3 wide racing is not uncommon in the Sportsman Division at CNSPair A Dice Interior Finishes Sportsman Division
A great field of Pair A Dice Interior Finishes Sportsman cars lined up for the feature event at CNS and quick time holder #8 Jeff Walbaum took a commanding lead on the entire field. After 10 laps Walbaum had built nearly a straightaway advantage on the rest of the cars but it was the familiar black and orange #98 of Lee Kemmit that was slowlyy reeling in Walbaum for the lead. With just 10 laps to go Kemmit had caught Walbaum and was trying to find a way around him for the win. Kemmit dove low and with 5 laps to go the two drivers ran side by side but Kemmit had the slight advantage. Yet on this night Jeff Walbaum was not to be denied and the determined Walbaum hung on the outside of Kemmit willing his way to victory as he crossed the line just inches ahead of Kemmit thrilling the CNS crowd. Behind Walbaum and Kemmit #84 Bruce Bochardt came in 3rd, #6 Tommy Roe was 4th and #3 Wade Grove rounded out the top 5.

#34 Rudy Vanderwal paced the field for the Snap-On Tools Pro Truck main event but it was the black #07 of Chris Leaf who took the early lead. By the halfway mark Leaf had built a large lead on the field yet current points leader #27 Roger "the ice man" Avants had moved into 2nd place passing Vanderwal for position. Avants began to gain on Leaf for the lead yet it was too little, too late, as Leaf grabbed another main event win leaving Avants to settle for 2nd place. Vanderwal was 3rd, #36 Matt Burton was 4th and 5th went to #5 Troy Witthar.

FAST DASH WINNER: #27 Roger Avants
QUICK TIME: #11 Steve Johnson 16.822

#22 Chris Eggleston won the legends FAST DASH, but in the main event it was #58 Kyle RayRMLRA Legend Cars
Once again the Legend division put on one of the best events of the night with a main event that featured action from beginning to end. #58 Kyle Ray and #22 Chris Eggleston started the Legend main event in 3rd and 6th spot respectively yet both Ray and Eggleston made daring passes to grab 1st and 2nd position by lap 2. Meanwhile #06 Mike Gallegos who entered the night leading in points had made his way into 3rd and perennial race favorite #66 Kyle Clegg had moved up from 8th spot into 4th just behind Gallegos. With 7 laps in the books 5th place car #7 Corey Seip spun in turn 4 and several cars made miraculous moves to avoid the spinning Seip. #77 Brandon Moore had nowhere to go and clipped Seip giving Moore a flat tire. On the restart #66 Kyle Clegg who was in 3rd place tried to get by Eggleston for 2nd but the two made contact and both spun. Eggleston was able to keep going but Clegg was hit hard by #46  Zach Witherwax who had nowhere to go. The collision would send Clegg to the rear of the field ending his chances at a top finish. After the restart a great battle heated up between Ray and Eggleston but when the two approached a slow moving lapped car Eggleston had to move way up high on the track to give room for Ray and this allowed Kyle to take a car length lead. Ray ran smooth and found his groove building a 10 car length lead by the time the checkered flag flew securing the trophy for the black and orange #58. #22 Chris Eggleston was 2nd, #06 Mike Gallegos was 3rd, #6 Scotty Scott took 4th and impressive rookie #21 Ryan Jones finished 5th.

FAST DASH WINNER: #22 Chris Eggleston
DASH WINNER: #85 Cole MacEwen
QUICK TIME: #58 Kyle Ray 18.536

Witthar Racing TRAINS
The MonsterFest Monster Truck show ran on Father's Day and the CNS track staff did their very best to clean up all the dirt that the Trucks had left behind but the Trains kicked up the remaining dust creating a wild Train race that featured: burning rubber, bent metal, showers of sparks, narrow misses in the X, and a cloud of dust. At the finish the #52 Train of Jared Wally Wall won in a cloud of dust.
