Cowan victorious on Chick-Fil-A night

Pair-A-Dice Interior Finishes Late Models

For the last couple seasons it’s been a rare sight to see anyone in winner’s circle in the Late Model division besides Lee Kemmit or Jeff Walbaum. However, their dominance has prompted other teams to step up their game as well as creating a challenge for teams from other regions to come in and race against the best of the best. Two of these teams are from Gering Nebraska, #17 Paul Deines and #76 Chad Cowan who have really made the Late Model division an interesting group to watch this season. In fact Paul Deines is leading the season standings and Chad Cowan won the last feature event and returned on Chick-fil-A night to see if he could repeat.

The drama started off quick as Cowan and Kemmit lineup side by side at the front of the pack for the feature event. For the first portion of the race these two drivers put on a great show for the fans running door-handle to door-handle. Cowan was fast running on the low side and Kemmit was keeping pace on the high side. After 10 laps #8 Jeff Walbaum joined the battle for the lead.

As the race approached the halfway point Cowan had put 2 car lengths on Kemmit who had his hands full with Walbaum on his tail. Walbaum was able to get by Kemmit and began to track down Cowan for the lead.

With 5 laps to go it was clear that Walbaum was indeed catching Cowan for the lead, the only question was if he would have enough time to make a move for the win. On the very final lap of the race Cowan became momentarily stuck behind a slower car in turn 2 and Walbaum had a window of opportunity but the determined Cowan hung on to grab his second straight main event victory. Walbaum crossed the line 2nd, Paul Deines took 3rd, Kemmit hung on for 4th, and #99 Nick Brinlee took home the final spot in the top 5.

With just one race to go on September 18th Paul Deines is clinging to a mere 8 point lead over Lee Kemmit.

FEATURE WINNER: #76 Chad Cowan

FAST DASH: #17 Paul Deines

QUICK TIME: #8 Jeff Walbaum 17.865

Snap-On Tools Pro Trucks

The Snap-On Tools Pro Trucks have one of the most competitive point battles of all the divisions at CNS. Mark Neff and Rudy Vanderwal are neck and neck with just one race to go.

Former Late Model driver Tommy Roe debuted his new #6 Pro Truck and was battling #27 Roger Avants for the lead at the start of the feature event until a spin in turn 2 sent him to the back of the field.

#41 Mark Neff and #06 Adam Hilton were now the top two trucks battling for the lead when out of nowhere #34 Rudy Vanderwal made a daring pass to go around both of them and take the lead. Neff’s truck began to fade a bit yet Hilton was hot on Vanderwals tail trying to regain the top spot.

With the championship on the line Vanderwal showed great determination and held off Hilton to take the win. Mark Neff leads Vanderwal by just a single point going into next weeks final Pro Truck race of the season. The drama will be at an all-time high for the 50 lap Pro Truck feature event on Championship night.

FEATURE WINNER: #34 Rudy Vanderwal

FAST DASH: #41 Mark Neff

DASH: #06 Adam Hilton

QUICK TIME: #34 Rudy Vanderwal 16.743

Race Central Media Legends

Chris Eggleston came into Chick-Fil-A night at CNS as the current leader in the Legend car track season standings, yet disaster struck in hot-laps when he lost his motor. Luckily for Chris his good pal Darren Robertson who was all set to drive the #97 Legend car stepped aside and gave Chris his ride allowing Chris a shot at maintaining his quest for the championship.

At the start of the feature event a furious battle for the lead broke out between Eggleston, #34 Chris Cooper, #15 Danny Medina, and #66 Kyle Clegg.

Eggleston spun in turn 2 but no caution was thrown as Chris kept going yet lost several positions. Kyle Clegg forced his way past Cooper to take the lead but Cooper came right back and regained the spot.

Clegg eventually secured the lead and began to put some distance on the field. This left Cooper to battle with Medina for 2nd place. As Cooper and Medina came up on lapped traffic Cooper made contact with a slower car on the back straight and went up and over and began a series of terrifying flips. To the relief of the crowd “mini-coop” jumped right out of the car and waved to the fans. However his wild crash would end his night and also dramatically hurt his chances at a track championship.

When the race returned to green Kyle Clegg had a comfortable lead until the final few laps when Eggleston began to pressure him. Yet it was too little too late as Clegg took the win with Chris right on his bumper at the line. #03 Darrell Stewart was 3rd, #1 Jereme Wall finished an impressive 4th, and Medina settled for 5th.

Eggleston’s great run in a car that was loaned to him helped him maintain a 21 point lead on Clegg, while Cooper fell 45 points behind 1st place after his scary crash that put him out of the race.

FEATURE WINNER: #66 Kyle Clegg

FAST DASH: #22 Chris Eggleston

DASH: #51 AJ Canada

LAST CHANCE: #61 Sydney Ross

QUICK TIME: #66 Kyle Clegg 18.840

Art’s Septic Figure 8s

The Figure 8 feature event started out a bit crazy as the field was inverted and action ensued as the fast cars began to move up through the slower cars. After the dust settled and the racers began to settle in #26 Nick Martinez had come from the back to take a large lead on the field. #33 Bobby Hutchings once again proved he is completely fearless as he made several hair-raising passes through the X. Nick’s car was the class of the field on this night and he cruised to an easy win. #10 Frank Gastineau finished an impressive 2nd place. #50 Justin Mackeachie was DQ’d in tech which hurt him badly in the season points and now trails Nick Martinez by 28 points.

FEATURE WINNER: #26 Nick Martinez

FAST DASH: #10 Frank Gastineau

DASH: #76 Brent Cave
