Jereme Wall Sweeps Windswept Take 5 Oil Change Championship Night

It seemed like the wind would be the winner at Colorado National Speedway on October 9th, 2021, but the action on the speedway held up against the gusts. Thankfully, the blustery weather died off just in time for Take 5 Oil Change’s Super Stock, Super Late Model and Figure 8 championship-deciding races.

ROCK ‘N’ ROLL BREWERY FIGURE 8s

FEATURE PART 1

CNS’s iconic Figure 8s always promise a good show, and with only two races left to decide a champion, the intensity was ramped up to the max. Anthony Martinez #78 got around polesitter #72 David Martinez for the lead on the first lap, but a single-car incident forced the field to come back together and try again. It didn’t take long for the field to get strung out and cause drama and excitement in “The X.” The #64 Michael Kephart, trailing behind the rest of the pack, caused some serious close calls, but he kept it matted through the track’s crossroads.

Jereme Wall #15 took control of the race with 17 laps left on the board. Behind him, several cars tangled in the infield as the #78 Anthony Martinez contacted #18 Dennis Stepanich III, causing the #78 machine to hop up on the #18’s wheel. They got untangled on their own and were both able to continue. After the green flag waved again, Wall’s #15 had some serious close calls in “The X” on his way to the checkered flag, but not even that could stop him from winning the first feature.

FEATURE PART 2

Jereme Wall #15 had some work to do for the second feature, as he was forced to start in the rear of the field. Several consecutive cautions stalled the start of the race as drivers kept getting into one another before a single lap could be completed, forcing the field to bunch up and try again. Finally, things got rolling, and Wall #15 set his sights on the race lead, and ultimately the Figure 8 championship. He led with ease, though the #92 Jason Wall, tried to hunt him down.

Jereme Wall #15 didn’t let up once, sending his machine right through the middle of the fray in “The X.” He narrowly dodged the cars at the tail end of the field and in the middle of the pack, and the fans were on their feet as he wheeled it to the checkered flag. Wall #15 managed to hang onto the lead, gaining two more trophies: the Feature 2 win, and the 2021 Rock ‘N’ Roll Brewery Figure 8s championship.

TBK BANK SUPER STOCKS

FEATURE PART 1

Jereme Wall #15 became a familiar visitor to Victory Lane. His car clearly the one to beat. After setting the night’s quick time in the series, Wall led the first feature race to green and easily darted ahead of the rest of the pack. He led the #90 Alex Rodriguez for most of the race. A multicar incident reined in the 28-car field with one lap left, ramping up the intensity with a green-white-checker finish. Wall #15 easily took over the first position when things went green, showing the way to the double checkered flag followed by #23 Jordan Abeyta and #90 Alex Rodriguez.

FEATURE PART 2

Jereme Wall #15 found his way back to his favorite position – first – for the second feature race. He had some competition from the #11w Scott Long at first, but Wall #15 passed him after only a handful of laps. Meanwhile, championship points leader #49 Chris Cox quietly held down the fourth position, right behind #90 Alex Rodriguez, who was also in the hunt for the overall championship. A two-car incident in Turn 2 slowed the field, but when things got rolling again, it was Wall #15 to the lead while the #11w Scott Long tried to reel him in.

In the end, nobody had anything for Wall’s #15, and he crossed the line ahead of the pack to get his fourth feature win of the night, earning his overall fifth trophy including his Figure 8 championship. #49 Chris Cox was credited as the 2021 TBK Bank Super Stocks champion. The only races Wall didn’t win were the ones he wasn’t in!

MOUNTAIN STATES FIRE PROTECTION SUPER LATE MODELS

FEATURE PART 1

Rookie #87 Tim Trostel III set the division Quick Time for the night and landed the pole position for the first of two feature races. He led the 16-car field to the green flag, including the #32 Brett Yackey, who went into the night with the overall points lead, and #3c Cassidy Hinds making her Super Late Model debut. Trostel #87 led a clean race until the field was slowed in response to the #07 Joe Mares Jr. spinning out with six laps left. This put the #87 Trostel and #05 Nick Cooper neck-and-neck for the race lead on the restart. Ultimately, Trostel #87 showed the way to the checkered flag, earning his first Super Late Model feature win in only his third start in the series.

FEATURE PART 2

The season all came down to this. Bruce Yackey #12 showed the way for the field, starting beside championship hopeful #32 Brett Yackey. #02 Steve Thompson ran into trouble early and had to head for the pits, but the race stayed green, while the #32 Brett Yackey controlled the field. Trostel’s #87 looked like it had something for Brett Yackey’s #32, but something in the machine broke, causing fire to erupt under the hood. Trostel got out unscathed and was able to drive his now fire-damaged racecar back to the pits, ending his quest for two feature wins in one night.

Brett Yackey #32 led on the green flag, but a caution was soon called for a multicar incident in Turn 4, bunching the pack back up. Brett Yackey #32 chose the high line, but was slow to the restart, prompting track officials to throw another caution and force the #32 machine to start the race at the rear of the field. On the next restart, the #11 Darren Robertson found the lead while Brett Yackey #32 battled his way up to third place. Robertson #11 crossed the finish line first with #05 Nick Cooper behind and Brett Yackey #32 in third. Despite the setback, Yackey was crowned 2021 Mountain States Fire Protection Super Late Model champion.
