Ursetta Holds Off Robertson to take Lincoln Tech Night

Updated: Mar 7, 2022

(07-28-2018, Dacono CO) Avada’s Dominic Ursetta had to withstand a late charge from Westminster’s Darren Robertson to win the CNS Super Late Model feature event on Lincoln Tech Putting Potential to Work Night at Colorado National Speedway. Wyoming’s Robert Hoard and Tyler Mander from Evans were victorious in the Super Stocks and Pure Stocks.

CNS Super Late Models

A full field of 19 CNS Super Late Models took the green flag for their 40 lap feature event with points leader Michael Scott in the #82 car and Matthew Martinez in the #19 car on the front row. Scott led the first few laps with youngster #24 Cody Dempster pressing hard for the position.

Dempster would briefly take the lead but by then #6 Dominic Ursetta and #11 Darrren Robertson had worked their way to the front and they had their sights set on 1st place. After Ursetta snuck on the inside of Scott for the lead he built a straightaway length lead on 2nd place Robertson.

On lap 31 Martinez and #14 Alejandro Ortiz made contact on the back straight and collected #42 Mark Neff who ended up on top of the 14 car as Neff simply had no place to go. It was a tough break for Neff who has been strong all season coming into the night 3rd in points.

On the restart is was previous winner #9 Justin Simonson who passed Robertson for 2nd but could not get by Ursetta out front. Another red flag with 4 laps to go gave Simonson and Robertson one last shot at Ursetta and the 11 gave it all he had. Robertson tried low and high on the 6 but couldn’t make the pass. The final battle for the lead thrilled the fans as Dominic Ursetta took the checkered flag and became the first repeat winner in the Super Late Models in 2018. Robertson finished a strong 2nd followed by Scott, Simoson and #12 Bruce Yackey in 3rd, 4th and 5th.

Mod Coupes (wingless)

The Mountain States Fire Protection Mod Coupes went old-school and removed the wing harkening back to when they ran at Lakeside and Englewood Speedway. Without the wing the Coupes are a bit more of a handful to drive but that didn’t seem to effect Adam Deines in the 3d car as he swept the event setting quick time, winning the dash and taking home the feature event his 5th of the 2018 season.

Great Scott’s Eatery Super Stocks

Wyoming’s Robert Hoard was the surprise winner in the Great Scott’s Eatery Super Stock feature event. It was Hoard’s first main event win at CNS and he did so in commanding fashion after taking the lead from #32 Cody Milan and #19 Shelby Cortese who had won the fast dash earlier in the night.

Lincoln Tech Pure Stocks

There were a couple crashes that slowed the pace of the Lincoln Tech Pure Stock feature event but that didn’t distract from the amazing 3 car battle for the win. Eventual winner #03 Tyler Mander, #86 Tim Coate and99R Ryan Raley Jr. put on a show for the crowd trading paint and trading position throughout the majority of the race.

At the line Mander took the checkered but Raley and Coate tangled down the front shute allowing #7 David Robinson to sneak by for 2nd place.
