Yackey Goes Flag to Flag on Galitz Transportation Night at CNS

Updated: Mar 11, 2022

(07–09-2016 Dacono Colorado) A hot summer evening was the setting for the Galitz Transportation “You Call, We Haul” night at CNS. The large crowd witnessed Greeley’s Brett “the Maverick” Yackey lead every lap of the Palomino Industries Late Model feature to take the big win. Tyler Davis from Lafayette swept the Pure Stock division setting quick time, winning the fast dash, and taking the feature event. Randy Whitman from Fort Collins was victorious in the Mod Coupes and Jereme Wall from Commerce City once again took home the trophy in the Figure 8s.

Palomino Industries Late Models

Brett Yackey in the #32 Late Model started on the pole of the Palomino Industries Late Model

30 lap feature event and led every lap to take his 3rd feature win of the season. Yackey had a brief battle with rookie Michael Valentine in the #18 car but eventually cruised to the win building a large lead on the field. Valentine went on to battle #7 Ethan Penrod for second which proved to be the best duel on the track for several laps.

Penrod would ultimately take the position but was not able to gain any ground on the race leader Yackey who was navigating lapped traffic to perfection. In 4th and 5th were #3 Wade Grove who was the feature winner last week and 90p Kyle Patee who had set quick time earlier in the evening with a 17.797.

Brett Yackey’s dominating win extends his points lead to 9 over Penrod who sits in 2nd place and who also finished 2nd place in the race. Valentine took home 3rd in the feature with Grove and Patee in 4th and 5th. The Late Models will return to action on Saturday July 23rd.

Lincoln College Pure Stocks

Josh Friberg in the #26 Pure Stock jumped out in front of #8 David Lewis at the drop of the green flag in the Lincoln Tech Pure Stock feature event. After a couple laps it was #9 Darin Wainwright who took over the top spot going to the inside of Friberg. Several laps later it was last week’s winner #33 Tyler Davis who started in 8th place began battling Wainwright for the lead. The leaders battled so intensely and so tight that at one point the cars actually became hooked together for nearly an entire lap to the amusement of the crowd. The fantastic battle for the lead featured an interesting contrast in driving styles as Davis was running the high-line and exiting the corner faster than Wainwright who was on the low side driving his car hard into each corner retaking the lead from Davis.

After a late race caution Wainwright and Davis could not seem to get the race restarted evenly and eventually were sent to the second row by NASCAR officials allowing #7 David Robinson and #03 Tyler Mander to inherit the front row. Robinson took the lead on the restart but it was a 4 car battle for the win and Davis used the outside lane to pass Robinson on the final lap to take the thrilling win.

With Davis and Robinson in the first two positions Wainwright settled for 3rd and Mander 4th. The final car in the top 5 was #21 Jamie Ward. The Pure Stocks return to action on Saturday July 23rd.

Galitz Transportation Mod Coupes

The Mod Coupes take the green flag for their feature event (Starr photo)

The Galitz Transportation Mod Coupes returned to action for the first time since June 4th for a 25 lap feature event that placed #5 Jason Bunt and 6d Rick Duckworth on the front row. Duckworth grabbed the early lead on the outside but Bunt was running strong in the low groove making for a great battle for position. Behind the two leaders #3 Ron O’Neil and #34 Randy Whitman were trying to make their way to the front to challenge for the lead. Duckworth and O’Neil made minor contact on the back straight which allowed Whitman to zip past on the outside and move into 2nd place.

Jason Bunt had built nearly a 2 second lead on the field but Whitman began to eat into this margin as the race neared completion. With just two laps remaining Whitman pulled up on the outside of Bunt and powered his way to the front to take the victory. Bunt settled for 2nd, Duckworth for 3rd and O’Neil for 4th. The final coupe in the top 5 was #12 Jaime Trengove.

Chick-Fil-A Figure 8s

You would have to go all the way back to August 8th of 2015 to find a Figure 8 feature event that #15 Jereme Wall did not win. Jereme kept that streak alive by winning his 6th in a row in 2016 and 8th in a row overall. As usual Wall would earn the victory by starting at the back of the field and working his way through traffic to the front for the win.

#01 Michael Haywood was the early race leader followed by #50 Justin McKeachie but it didn’t take too long for both Jereme and brother Jared Wall in the #52 to begin to pressure for the lead.

Figure 8 feature action (Starr photo)

This race featured some of the most hair-raising near misses in the X that the CNS fans have ever seen and it mostly involved #5 Curtis Chavez who fearlessly barreled between cars each and every lap. As the crowd gasped and track announcer Marc Moser screamed “LOOK OUT, LOOK OUT!!!” Chavez and the other Figure 8 drivers demonstrated their extreme skill and bravery in a highly entertaining feature event.

Taking the win by a huge margin was Jereme Wall followed by his brother Jared. McKeachie finished a solid 3rd with Haywood coming in 4th. The final car in the top 5 was #9 Brent Cave.
