Super Late Models and Pro Trucks thrill fans with double feature events

(05-30-2015 Dacono Colorado) Dominic Ursetta and Bruce Yackey both found their way to winner’s circle in the double Super Late Model feature events in front of a large crowd at CNS for Palmetto Environmental “Salutes Our Vets” Night. The Snap-On Tools Pro Trucks had the fans on the edges of their seats with two action filled feature events and Adam Deines and Matt Burton took home the victories. Former champion Jeff Hansen returned to winner’s circle in the SUNOCO Fuels Grand American Modifieds and Judge Harry Stone won the first ERA Supermodified race of the season.

Gillet Vet Clinic Super Late Models

The last time the Gillet Vet Clinic Super Late Models were at CNS #74 Dan Savage took home the win and Dan was back at the speedway with a chance to three-peat having two feature events on the night’s schedule. At the start of the first 30 lap feature it was Pro Truck ace Rudy Vanderwal in the #34 car who grabbed a commanding lead. Quickly #11 Darren Robertson pulled up on Vanderwal’s bumper and took the lead just prior to faltering with mechanical problems. On lap ten #6 Dominic Ursetta grabbed the lead and began to distance himself from the field. Ursetta who started way back in 8th position now had a straightaway length lead on #12 Bruce Yackey with #39 Jack Nugent a distant 3rd.

As the laps wound down it was clear that nobody had anything for Ursetta who grabbed the win and sent notice that he was prepared to sweep the night’s events.

Not so fast said crafty veteran and 8 time track champion Bruce Yackey who started 5th in the second 35 lap feature but had quickly moved into 2nd pressuring Savage for the lead. Just before the halfway mark of the race Yackey dove to the inside of Savage and the two drivers battled for the lead. Ursetta who started in 6th spot had now moved into 3rd place but was having a tough time passing Savage or Yackey for the lead.

With just 10 laps to go it was still Yackey in the lead with Savage and Ursetta in tow. Behind the leaders there was plenty of action as #84 Matt Zwingleberg and #39 Jack Nugent were fighting for 4th with #27 Roger Avants. #66 Darren Bucklen and #11 Darren Robertson were putting on a great show working their way up through the field from the rear.

Yet in the end it was “the Moose” bringing home yet another feature win in impressive fashion with the “Savageman” and Ursetta directly behind. Zwingleberg took home 4th and Nugent took home 5th.

The Super Late Models will return to CNS Saturday June 20th.

Snap-On Tools Pro Trucks

Two feature events for the Snap-On Tools Pro Trucks would prove to be some of the most exciting and wildest racing of the night filled with tempers flaring, doors banging, rubber squealing, and intense action. In the first feature #5 Troy Witthar looked strong leading the first 8 laps but the #82 of Michael Scott pushed his way past Witthar to take the lead. That lead would be short lived however as he was sent to the back for rough driving.

It seemed as if drama followed the 82 truck all night long as multiple incidents between he and nearly every other driver was the story of the night. By the end of the evening Scott’s truck had some serious battle scars.

After the restart in the first feature #7 Adam Deines got the the best of Witthar and took control of the race. Not even last years champion #34 Rudy Vanderwal could catch Deines who cruised to an easy win. Vanderwal settled for second and Witthar took an impressive 3rd place finish.

With the drama of the first feature still fresh in the minds of the fans and drivers, the final 25 lap feature had #34 Rudy Vanderwal and #36 Matt Burton pace the field for the green flag. Burton was holding off Vanderwal but only by inches as the two trucks thrilled the large crowd. To add to the excitement, feature one winner #7 Adam Deines joined the battle for the lead and the three trucks fought for supremacy.

As good as the battle for the lead was there was also excitement back through the field as #82 Michael Scott was once again in the thick of the action battling with #17 Scott Rhodes, #5 Troy Witthar, 88c Corey Cox and others.

When the checkered flag flew it was “the Pebble” Matt Burton grabbing his first Pro Truck win of the 2015 season followed closely by Deines and Vanderwal. #06 Chris Cox finished 4th with Scott taking the 5th spot.

SUNOCO Fuels Grand American Modifieds The 2012 Grand American Modified champion Jeff Hansen in the red and white #77 car returned to the speedway and found himself on the pole position of the feature event. Hansen was dominant a couple years ago but a lot has changed since then and there are several drivers who are capable of winning on any giving night so Hansen would have his work cut out for him to get back in winner’s circle. #58 Kyle Ray who won both previous GAM features quickly moved into 2nd spot and began to battle Hansen for the lead. Behind the leaders #48 Ed Vecchiarelli Jr. and #95 Cris Muhler were having a battle of their own for 3rd position. With laps winding down Ray moved to the inside of Hansen to challenge for the lead but Hansen flew into turn three refusing to let Ray sneak by. Hansen rode the top groove to the checkered flag making his first appearance in winner’s circle in a long time. Ray finished 2nd with Muhler in 3rd and Vecchiarelli Jr in 4th. The final spot in the top 5 went to Ron O’Neil in the #0 car.

ERA Supermodifieds It was the first appearance of the season for the ERA Supermodifieds and an impressive field of 15 alcohol breathing beasts lined up for the 25 lap feature race. The familiar #3 of Harold Evans jumped out to the early lead but fast dash winner #15 Josh Lewis was quickly tracking him down. Just as it appeared Lewis could catch and pass Evans he began to slow allowing Evans to regain control of the race. After Randy Whitman in the yellow #34 car spun and made contact with the turn 3 wall it became a side by side race with Evans on the outside and the #40 of Judge Harry Stone on the inside. The two cars battled for several laps before Stone began to pull away and went on to take the victory. Evans settled for 2nd place with #2 Richie Castor Jr. in 3rd place and #27 Roger “the ice-man” Avants in 4th.
