(04-25-2015 Dacono Colorado) – Dan Savage made a triumphant return to CNS by dominating every lap of the SUNOCO Race Fuels “High Octane Action” Super Late Model feature event. Rudy Vanderwal once again won the Pro Truck feature as did Kyle Ray in the Grand American Modifieds.
Gillett Vet Clinic Late Models Since 2011 when Dan “the Savage Man” Savage won the Super Late Model championship at CNS he has only ran a very limited amount of races at the track yet he once again proved why he is one of CNS’s top drivers leading all 40 laps in the SUNOCO Race Fuels “High Octane Action” night. Savage started on the poll inside of rookie driver Kyle Ray in the #58 machine and it didn’t take Savage long to secure the top spot. #31 Rick Smith moved into 2nd and gave Savage some pressure for the position.
As the laps wound down Savage fell into a perfect groove and began to put some distance between himself and the rest of the field. #12 Bruce Yackey who was pinned back in 6th place eventually worked his way past Ray and #66 Darren Bucklen to third spot but well behind the leader.
After a late race restart shuffled some of the field a scary crash on the back stretch occurred as #11 Darren Robertson’s car climbed up on top of Kyle Ray’s vehicle. After the cars slid to a stop safety workers separated the cars and made sure the drivers were uninjured.

With seventeen laps to go now it was Darren Bucklen’s chance to occupy 2nd place and try to reel in the leader but he too had nothing for the #74 car. Yackey caught Bucklen and the two drivers began to battle for 2nd place which proved to be the best race of the night as the two drivers raced door-handle to door-handle. Near the end of the race #84 Matt Zwingleberg caught Bucklen and Yackey and joined the battle for 2nd place.
Savage went on to take the checkered flag and the impressive win while Yackey settled for second place. However, Yackey did take over the lead in points from Dominic Ursetta who was qualifying for the ARCA race in Salem Indiana. Savage’s teammate Zwingleberg took the 3rd spot with Bucklen in 4th and #39 Jack Nugent in 5th.

Snap-On Tools Pro Trucks The SUNOCO Fuels Pro Truck division is always a fan favorite for it’s tight racing and drama on the track but so far this season it’s been all Rudy Vanderwal in the red #34 truck. Rudy came the 4th starting spot to battle #36 Matt Burton and #7 Adam Deines for the top spot and secured the position before the halfway point in the race. Deines would eventually clear Burton for 2nd but didn’t have anything for Vanderwal who grabbed his second straight Pro Truck feature win. Deines would settle for second followed by #06 Chris Cox who came all the way from the back of the pack to grab the 3rd spot. Matt Burton finished 4th and the final spot in the top five went to #5 Troy Witthar.

SUNOCO Fuels Grand American Modifieds It was the second race of the season for the SUNOCO Fuels Grand American Modifieds and 57b Brady Balderston along with #59 Charlie Wilson paced the field for a 25 lap feature event. The young Balderston not only led the first 10 laps of the race but at times had a 3 car length lead on the field. Balderston was doing a marvelous job holding off #58 Kyle Ray for the lead who had started way back in 6th place.
Ray who was the favorite to win after dominating the first race of the season on April 4th was able to sneak under Balderston to grab the lead on lap 10. Behind the leader, #44 Justin Case, #95 Cris Muhler, #77 Jeff Hansen, #66 John Seely were all jockying for position. Nearly every time the field passed the start finish line the cars battling for 2nd through 6th had exchanged positions. There was great racing for position throughout the field but up front the silver #58 of Kyle Ray was building a large lead.

Unfortunately for Balderston his left front tire let go and he spun in turn 3 bringing out a caution. With 7 laps remaining this would be Cris Muhler’s chance to give Ray a run for his money but on the double file restart Ray bolted way out front while Muhler seemed to get loose and began to fade back through the field.
When all was said and done Kyle Ray took the checkered flag by a wide margin over #77 Jeff Hansen. #66 John Seely finished an impressive 3rd place adding to his FAST DASH victory earlier in the evening. #44 Justin Case was 4th and #95 Cris Muhler was 5th. Rookie drivers #19 Brent Miller & #17 Jeremy Barclay were 5th and 6th.
