Brett Yackey Comes From The Rear of the Field to Win on Ride 911 Night

(08-27-2016 Dacono, CO) Greeley’s Brett Yackey won his seventh Palomino Industries Late Model feature event after being sent to the rear of the field for an altercation with Brent Miller in the early stages of the race. Yackey’s win gives him a near lock for the 2016 championship with just one race left in the season. Eddie Vecchiarelli used a late race restart to win the Grand American Modifieds and Levi Greenly cruised to victory in the Super Stocks.

In addition to the great racing it was also the annual Ride 911 night where motorcyclists from around the region go on a memorial ride to honor those that lost their lives on September 11th 2001. The ride ends at the track just before the national anthem and it’s always an awesome site to see the mass of bikes line up at the track and take some laps around the speedway.

Palomino Industries Late Models

#32 Brett Yackey from Greeley Colorado grabbed a hard-earned 7th Palomino Late Model feature win after coming from deep in the field twice in the 30 lap feature event. Yackey not only started deep in the field but after moving near the front was sent to the rear of the field after tangling with #88 Brent Miller in turns 3 and 4.

Eventually Yackey would make it all the way back to the front again to battle Gering Nebraska’s Mike Valentine in the #18 car for the lead. Valentine tried his best to hold off the charging Yackey but eventually Brett got his nose under the 18 car and was able to make the pass for the lead. Behind the leaders another awesome battle for position was taking place between #11 Montie Paulsen from Pueblo West and #19 Robert Davey from Aurora. Joining that battle was #3 Wade Grove from Thornton.

When the checkered flag dropped it was Yackey out in front winning his 7th Late Model feature of the season and Valentine close behind in 2nd place. Davey secured 3rd position and Grove 4th. Paulsen finished an impressive 5th.

SUNOCO Fuels Grand American Modifieds

There was drama in the SUNOCO Race Fuels Fast Dash when race winner Ron O’Neil from Colorado Springs and Eddie Vecchiarelli from Brighton tangled coming out of turn four near the end of the race. The drivers were clearly upset at one another and knocked fenders a couple times on the cool-down lap after the race. This drama would would heat back up again in the feature as Vecchiarelli hunted down O’Neil who led almost the entire race until a late race double-file restart gave Vecchiarelli the chance he was looking for.

The Great Scott’s Eatery Super Stocks

A large field of Great Scott’s Eatery Super Stocks rumbled to the green flag for their 25 lap feature event with #43 Kody Vanderwal and #75 Levi Greenly on the front row. Vanderwal led the first 5 laps of the race but that’s when Greenly took over and set the pace for the remainder of the race winning his third feature of the season.

Behind Greenly is where things got interesting. There was a great battle between Vanderwal, #22 Brian Yackey and #9 Curtis Heldenbrand. All three of these drivers along with the #3 of Michael Cox are in a tight battle for the season points championship. In fact the top 4 drivers in the division are now separated by a mere 11 points.

Heldenbrand used a late race restart to wiggle his way into a second place finish which now gives him a 6 point lead in the standings over Vandewrwal who crossed the line 4th behind Yackey in 3rd place. #2 Chris Cox took home the final spot in the top 5 while #3 Michael Cox had to settle for 6th place.

The Super Stocks have one last points race in 2016 and that’s on Championship Night Saturday September 17th.
