Another packed night of local short-track racing took over Colorado National Speedway on August 29^th, 2026, with double features giving fans twice the action from the Super Late Models, Grand American Modifieds, Pure Stocks, and Figure 8s. From last-lap battles and dominant performances to plenty of bent sheet metal, every division brought something different to the Fastest Short Track in the West.

The Train Races capped off an already action-packed evening, giving the fans in the grandstands one more reason to stay on their feet. Whether you joined us at the track or followed along from home, there was no shortage of excitement throughout the night. If you missed any of the action, we've got you covered. Guardian Roofing Super Late Models

Feature 1 – 30 Laps

Five Super Late Model racers took the green flag with the No. 12 of Bruce Yackey and the No. 32 of Brett Yackey up front. Brett Yackey launched into the lead as Bruce Yackey faded, giving the No. 24 of Cody Dempster an opportunity to move into third, then second as the No. 12 continued to slide backward. Dempster began chasing Yackey for the lead, while the No. 43 of Kody Vanderwal picked off Bruce Yackey to claim P4 on Lap 5. Vanderwal then zeroed in on the No. 58 of Kyle Ray, trying to take away third place, but couldn't quite make it happen. As Bruce Yackey lost touch with the pack, Brett Yackey continued to lead. Vanderwal, Dempster, and Ray bunched together behind him, allowing the No. 32 to stretch his advantage even further. Vanderwal and Ray waged the tightest battle on the racetrack until Vanderwal finally shot low and completed the pass. Once free of Ray, Vanderwal went straight after Dempster. With 14 laps remaining, the No. 43 overtook Dempster and sliced into second before setting his sights on the leader.

Vanderwal steadily chipped away at Yackey's advantage, and with five laps remaining, he had closed to within a car-length. Soon, the battle was bumper-to-bumper, with Yackey mirror-driving as Vanderwal searched everywhere for a way around. Just as Vanderwal appeared poised to make his move, two cars piled into the Turn 1 fence and triggered a late caution. That set up a final shootout for the victory. Yackey escaped with the lead as the white flag waved, but Vanderwal fired back from the lower groove. He drove hard through the final two corners and would not be denied, charging ahead at the last possible moment and streaking across the finish line ahead of Yackey for the victory.

Feature 2 – 30 Laps

Bruce Yackey started alongside Ray on the front row, but quickly lost ground as Vanderwal emerged as a threat by Lap 3. Vanderwal and Ray raced side-by-side for the top spot until the No. 43 found room on the inside and took control. It didn't take Vanderwal long to put some distance between himself and Ray, showing the way as the field settled into formation behind him. Vanderwal led Ray and Brett Yackey, with a sizable gap back to Bruce Yackey in fourth and Dempster at the rear of the field. With 11 laps remaining, Brett Yackey went after Ray for second, bringing the battle side-by-side for several circuits. Their fight only allowed Vanderwal to extend his advantage up front.

Ray finally put Yackey back behind him on Lap 21 and even managed to shave some time off Vanderwal's lead, but the No. 32 wasn't finished. Yackey continued pressuring Ray as both drivers chased Vanderwal, eventually finding speed along the lower groove as the white flag approached. While Vanderwal checked out up front, Yackey finally completed the pass and demoted Ray to third. Nobody, however, had anything for Vanderwal. The No. 43 completed the final circuit uncontested, sweeping both Super Late Model features to cap a perfect night.

Feature 1 – 20 Laps Scheduled; 15 Laps Completed

The No. 9 of CJ Wilson launched into the lead, but before the pack could build any momentum, a minor incident brought out the caution and triggered a complete restart. Wilson made the second start a repeat of the first and took control once again. The No. 89 of Jacob Smith surged through the pack and overtook for second with the No. 66 of John Seely hot on his heels. The No. 7 of David Robinson followed, while the No. 69 of Forest Smith knocked on the door to the top five. The No. 68 of Wyatt Dent demoted the No. 88 of Brad Skufca, then made short work of Robinson as he steadily marched toward the front. Seely took control of second and settled in for the long haul, but a single car spinning in Turn 1 brought out another caution.

Once the race restarted, Wilson valiantly defended his lead against a charge from Seely, who applied pressure from the outside and briefly pulled alongside before falling back. Seely regrouped, though, and mounted another charge, this time shooting to the point and quickly putting Wilson behind him. On Lap 12, another wreck unfolded in Turn 1, prompting yet another caution and ultimately a red flag as crews attended to the scene if the crash. Following the cleanup, a false start kept the field under yellow, with Seely still at the point and Wilson waiting for another shot. But Turn 1 wasn't finished with them yet. Several more cars tangled there on Lap 12, bringing out another caution. With the race approaching its time limit, officials elected to remove five laps from the scheduled distance, leaving only a green-white-checkered finish between the field and the victory.

Then, on the green flag, more cars wrecked, this time in Turn 4 before another lap could be completed. When the field finally got going, Wilson stayed within striking distance of Seely and tried to hunt him down over the closing circuits, but he simply ran out of time. Seely crossed the stripe just 0.358 seconds ahead of Wilson, surviving a chaotic Feature to take the victory.

Feature 2 – 30 Laps

The No. 6 of Scotty Scott got off to a fast start, while second place immediately became a three-wide battle. That fight culminated in one race car striking the wall just after the field completed the opening lap, bringing out an early caution. The field barely got moving again before debris in the racing groove brought out another yellow on Lap 2. Once the race finally settled into a rhythm, Dent got away with the lead, but Forest Smith was already on a tear and quickly entered the conversation for the top spot. Further back, Wilson faded to the final position inside the top five before surrendering it to the No. 51 of Cade Fox. Up front, Smith mounted a charge around the outside and knocked Dent from the top spot, assuming control and quickly opening an advantage of more than 1.5 seconds. Seely sat comfortably in third while holding off Scott and Fox. Fox pulled alongside Scott and paced him for several laps before finally clawing his way into fourth.

Meanwhile, Seely overtook Dent for second, but found himself at a disadvantage in his pursuit of Smith as lapped traffic became an obstacle between the two leaders. Smith continued to command the race until Lap 27, when a slow car running high brought out a caution with only three laps remaining. Just like that, Smith's advantage disappeared and Seely lined up alongside him for one final shot, but Smith didn't give him much of one. The No. 69 broke away as soon as the green flag returned, quickly rebuilding his advantage and leaving the rest of the field behind. His Modified looked to be on rails over the closing laps, and Smith streaked across the stripe to earn his fourth victory of the season.

Fast Dash – 10 Laps

The No. 14 of Jeff Yenisch took a shot at the lead as soon as the green flag fell, but the No. 24 of Kolby Humphrey quickly took command, slicing in front of the pack with the No. 04 of Aric Durand in tow. The No. 1 of Derek Spalding steadily clawed his way through the top five, hunting the No. 08 of Tanner McKim and Durand as they battled behind Humphrey, who remained comfortably out front. McKim began mounting his own charge on Lap 4, steadily working his way toward Humphrey. He refused to be denied and eventually pulled alongside the No. 24, taking control of the race just past the halfway point. Chaos erupted on the final circuit when several of the frontrunners made contact, collecting multiple cars from inside the top five. McKim escaped the melee, crossing the stripe first to take the Fast Dash victory.

Dash – 10 Laps

An incident in Turn 4 slowed the field before a single lap could be completed, prompting a complete restart. The No. 63 of Kenny Bowlus and the No. 19Y of Justin Young Jr. went to battle from the front row, with Bowlus barely pulling ahead at the stripe and shutting the door on Young to take control. The field settled into an uneasy single-file line for the next few laps until Young broke formation and brought the fight back to Bowlus at the halfway point. The two went door-to-door for the lead, with Young barely edging ahead. Bowlus mounted another charge from the high side, but ultimately fell short as Young escaped with the advantage. Though Bowlus continued searching for a way to reclaim the top spot over the closing laps, he ran out of time to make it happen. Young completed the final circuit uncontested to claim the Dash victory.

Feature – 20 Laps

Kolby Humphrey launched into an early lead, showing the way for the No. 57 of Tyler Humphrey and No. 54 of Giovanni Scimeca as the pack strung out along the lower groove. Kolby Humphrey opened a comfortable advantage with only three laps in the books, but Tyler Humphrey steadily chipped away at the gap while simultaneously keeping Scimeca at bay. Their pursuit was interrupted on Lap 5 when a multicar incident brought out the caution and erased the leader's advantage. Following a red flag to clean up the racing surface, the field returned to green with Kolby Humphrey back at the point and Wall close behind. Wall wasn't content to follow for long. On Lap 8, the No. 52 swept past Humphrey and assumed control of the race.

Further back, the battle around the final positions inside the top five became some of the hottest racing on the track. Scimeca muscled his way into fourth while McKim took control of fifth, knocking Bowlus out of the top five on Lap 13. Even with a slower car ahead, Wall continued stretching his advantage while McKim picked off Tyler Humphrey and continued marching forward. Kolby Humphrey began cutting into Wall's lead, but McKim was closing fast behind him, riding his rear bumper as all three fought toward the front. With three laps remaining, a single car spun and came to a stop on the racing surface, bringing out the caution and setting the stage for a green-white-checkered finish. Once the track was clear, the field was turned loose for one final sprint. Wall held firm at the point through the closing circuits, surviving the late restart and charging across the stripe to claim the Feature victory.

Feature 1 – 15 Laps

The No. 8 of Beau Kellogg appeared to have trouble before the green flag even waved, throwing smoke as the field prepared to get underway. A car spun around in The X early, but Kellogg managed to stay in front despite the smoke, leading the No. 3 of Michael Wolfe Jr. and No. 20 of Isaiah Proctor. Wolfe pulled alongside Kellogg and evenly paced him through The X, but Kellogg continued to hold him off. Wolfe eventually found his opportunity and took control, and shortly afterward, Kellogg was black flagged for excessive smoke, leaving Wolfe in sole possession of the lead. As the field began spreading around the track, The X became a factor with only six laps in the books. Further back, the No. 15 of Jereme Wall battled with the No. 38 of Javon Barnard and No. 18 of Dennis Stepanich, eventually working his way past both.

Up front, Wolfe continued to lead while Proctor held second and Wall steadily worked to cut into the deficit from third. Meanwhile, the No. 52 of Jared Wall had a close call with traffic heading the opposite direction through The X, but both cars escaped unscathed. Wolfe opened his advantage to 4.350 seconds over Proctor as the race wound down. Drivers stood on the brakes as they decided whether to take the risk or wait for approaching traffic before entering The X, delivering plenty of hair-raising moments for the fans in the grandstands. With one lap left, Wolfe still had cross-traffic standing between himself and the checkered flag. He threaded his way through without breaking a sweat and crossed the line more than 5.5 seconds ahead of Proctor, while Wall rounded out the podium.

Feature 2 – 20 Laps

The No. 64 of Michael Kephart took the green flag out front, leading a tight grouping of race cars through the opening circuit. Wolfe and Jereme Wall touched and bounced apart deeper in the field, but somehow managed to keep everything pointed in the right direction. Kephart led with heavy pressure from Barnard, while Jared Wall held third as Wolfe tried to close the gap while simultaneously keeping Jereme Wall behind him. By Lap 4, Barnard had caught Kephart. The two leaders made contact, slowing both just enough to give Wolfe an opportunity to reel them in. Three laps later, The X became a battleground as slower traffic picked its way through the faster cars charging toward the crossroads.

Barnard sliced into the lead as Kephart was shuffled high through the turns and began to fade, but Wolfe immediately took advantage of the opening as well. While Barnard worked to keep Wolfe at bay, Jereme Wall muscled his way forward as the running order continued to shuffle behind the leaders. Up front, Wolfe leaned on Barnard's rear bumper, forcing the No. 38 to push hard to maintain his advantage. Wolfe refused to let up and finally charged past Barnard heading back toward The X to assume control of the race. Barnard wasn't finished. He answered back and raced wheel-to-wheel with Wolfe for several laps before the No. 3 managed to nose ahead. Proctor also entered the conversation as lapped traffic bunched the field together and threatened to shuffle the running order once again. After dodging a slower car headed the other way through The X, Wolfe finally broke free and rebuilt his advantage. He guided his race car through the remaining turns and flashed across the stripe to sweep both Figure 8 features, adding yet another trophy to his 2026 collection.

Feature – 8 Laps

The No. 91 Friday Night Special took the field to green. The field quickly spread out as the No. 22 Hot Mess Express and the No. 41G J&H Livestock Funny Farm did battle for P2, slamming doors as they vied for the runner-up position. Friday Night Special opened up a massive lead on the field, and the battle for the runner-up position came right down to the stripe as Funny Farm and Hot Mess Express refused to cede any ground. Funny Farm took the position, following Friday Night Special, who won by a large margin.
