Following an incredible season, championship night for the Grand American Modifieds
came down to the wire with Cade Fox and Eric Rhead racing to the final lap for the championship. A scoring error created by the rain-shortened first feature placed Fox as
Champion; however, after the scoring was re-checked, the error was discovered and
Rhead was actually champion by a single point.
By this time, CNS had already celebrated Fox as the winner, and thus a plan was
hatched to crown two champions. Much discussion followed the announcement of co-
champions, and the issue was referred to Daytona for guidance.
Word from NASCAR is clear: this isn’t elementary school soccer. These are professional
race car drivers who take a great deal of pride in what they do, and a co-champion award
amounts to an insult and nothing more than participation trophies for both competitors.
At this time, Colorado National Speedway issues the following correction: Eric Rhead is
the 2025 Grand American Modified Champion by one point over Cade Fox. Fox is owed
an apology for CNS’ mistake, and deserves a tremendous amount of credit for the
professional way he has handled the matter.
We look forward to recognizing both drivers at the Awards presentation on October 18th.
