Updated: May 10

May 3, 2025 ~ Dacono, CO

Welcome Back Race Fans!

CNS welcomed race fans back to kick off our 60th consecutive season of exciting NASCAR short track action with the help of our new friends at Lowry Insurance. Fans were ecstatic as they made their way through the front gates and got to take in all the new and exciting improvements that took place over the off-season; including upgraded seating, a fresh coat of paint, delicious concessions, and of course the same great action that they’ve come to expect for the last 60 years. In addition, during opening ceremonies fans got to meet our new track owners Chad Anderson & Stacy Bivona-Andersen along with honoring the heart and soul of Colorado National Speedway – Mr. Johnny Witthar – who has been a staple at CNS since the very beginning in 1965. If you missed any of the action or want to relive all the season opening excitement, keep on reading.

CNS Late Models:

Fast Dash – 10 Laps

No. 18, Casey Wiggans & No. 98, Lee Kemmit started on the front row of the fast dash. Wiggans got the early jump on the lead from the inside line while No. 32 Joseph Andrade (who set QuickTime) also made his presence known following Wiggans on the inside line to take second on the initial lap. By lap 3, the field ran single-file as Wiggans began to pull away from Andrade. Meanwhile, No. 8, Dan Alamaa was making a charge on Kemmit for third using the outside to try and get by him. Alamaa, having success on the outside, was finally able to get by Kemmit with just a couple laps to go, but could not catch Wiggans who continued to hit his marks and grab the fast dash win.

Dash – 10 Laps

No. 17, Mariah Boudrieau and No. 48 Mikey Blackard battled side by side for the race lead after the initial start. Boudrieau cleared Blackard in Turn 4, however it was short lived as Blackard fought back on the outside and took over the lead on Lap 3. No. 3 Joe Hill spun harmlessly down the backstretch into the infield and the dash remained under green flag conditions. Blackard continued to extend his lead while No. 40 Brandon Newey began closing in on Boudrieau for second, and methodically worked to her inside to take over second. Newey then began to close on Blackard in the final couple of laps, but ran out of time as Blackard crossed the finish line first in his bright green machine for the win.

Feature – 30 Laps

A nice field of 15 Late Models threw their cars into turn one behind No. 58 Bryce Weinmaster & No. 98 Lee Kemmit. Both cars nearly touched off of turn two, which allowed Kemmit to sneak away with the lead. However, Weinmaster was determined to keep up with Kemmit and fought back on the outside as the two battled side by side for multiple laps. The two-car battle turned into a three-car battle as No. 8 Dan Alamaa was all over the front two cars’ bumpers; looking for a way to get by. Weinmaster cleared Kemmit on Lap 5 and Alamaa pounced as well, using the inside line to follow Weinmaster to take over second. Alamaa then set his sights on getting by Weinmaster successfully got by him on Lap 8. Another driver on the move was Andrade who managed to work his way by Kemmit for third and began closing in on Weinmaster for second. Andrade made a successful pass on Weinmaster and began to track down Alamaa who had opened up a sizable advantage. Meanwhile, fast dash winner Wiggans worked his way up fifth and closed on Kemmit for fourth. Near the halfway mark, dash winner Blackard stalled at the pit entrance after contacting the front stretch wall; drawing a 5280 Pit Lighting caution flag.

New for 2025, the choose cone is now in effect at Colorado National Speedway, which allows drivers to decide which lane they want to restart in, leading to some exciting restarts. With the front row of Alamaa and Weinmaster set, the field approached the AAA Services restart line and Alamaa shot out to the lead, while Andrade and Weinmaster commenced into a great side by side battle that lasted lap after lap bringing the fans to their feet. A patient Wiggans was lurking in fourth waiting for his chance to pounce on the side-by-side duo. Wiggans got his opportunity as Andrade cleared Weinmaster with only 5 laps to go as Weinmaster began to fade (also losing a position to Newey). Andrade made it exciting on the final lap as he managed to close in on Alamaa for the lead and tried to stick his nose to the inside of Alamaa.  His efforts came up just short though, and Alamaa was able to hang on for the Late Model Win.

QuckTime: No. 32, Joseph Andrade – 17.699

30 Lap Feature: No. 8, Dan Alamaa

10 Lap Fast Dash: No. 18, Casey Wiggans

10 Lap Dash: No. 48, Mikey Blackard

AC Transmission Legend Cars

Fast Dash – 10 Laps

No. 45 Cole Tuttle & No. 16 Travis Roe brought ultra-fast field of Legends to the green flag. Tuttle jumped out to the early lead; however, it was short lived as No. 78C Colton Crocker snuck up behind Tuttle and grabbed the lead as the field came by the start finish line to complete lap 1. Roe began to slip back falling all the way to sixth after getting stuck on the outside line. 2024 championship runner up No. 68 Wyatt Dent moved into third trailing Tuttle. Meanwhile, mid pack No. 12 Bryanna Bruce moved up into seventh as battles were on-going behind the top six who were single file. In the closing laps Tuttle pulled away from Dent and closed in Crocker, but ran out of time with Crocker crossing the finish line first.

Dash – 10 Laps

No. 95 Jessilyn Dike & No. 56 Nicholas Gunther led the field to green and it didn’t take long for the action to start as Dike checked up into turn 1, then Gunther spun in front of the field; collecting several cars including No. 27 Brian Harlow. Harlow managed to continue and after the clean up the field was re-racked for the restart with No. 17 Jeremy Kreuger and No. 10 Ty Brown now the front row. Brown took off on the restart and brought 2024 Legend Champion No. 73 Mike Markison with him on the inside line dropping Kreuger back to third. Another yellow on Lap 4 stacked the field up again for the restart and with the choose in effect Kreuger took the top line on the restart putting him back on the front row. Brown took off with the lead once again with Kreuger & Markison fighting for second. Then on Lap 7 a big wreck happened coming off of turn 2 involving No. 78 Ashlyn Himler & No. 9 Terry McBride. The red flag was immediately thrown and thankfully both drivers were ok. The race was officially called with Brown picking up the dash win.

FAST Feature – 25 Laps

A stout field of over 30 Legend cars meant the field would be split to run two features. QuickTime winner No. 03 Darrell L. Stewart & Roe started on the front row of the FAST feature and as always, the Legend feature is full of thrilling passes and close racing action. Stewart took off with the lead with a hard charging Crocker up to second on the first lap. No.00 Chris Saykally and No. 6 Scotty Scott battled for third with Bruce close behind. On lap 4, Crocker shot around Stewart for the lead; then in turn 3 Saykally and Roe got together spinning in front of the field everyone was able to avoid except for No. 48 Preston Nakayama who clipped the rear of Roe’s car. Roe & Nakayama retired to the pits. On the restart Crocker shot out to the lead as a battle for second was ongoing between Stewart & Bruce. Stewart began to drop positions getting stuck on the outside as Scott took over third and Stewart fell to sixth. By lap 10 Dent moved his way into fourth and set his sights on Scott, meanwhile Crocker began to run away from the field with Bruce staying about 10 car lengths behind in second. A quick spin and go from No. 17x Marc Karashinski allowed the race to stay green. Dent moved past Scott to take over third and began closing on Bruce for second. Closing in on the final laps Bruce & Dent began to close in on Crocker for the lead but ran out of time as Crocker took the first victory of 2025. The fight for second was still on as Dent got beside Bruce in turns 3 & 4 and drag raced to the line with Dent getting second over Bruce by James Bond (.007).

Feature – 20 Laps

Harlow & Kreuger led the legend feature to the green flag, Harlow managed to get ahead slightly, but Kreuger continued to fight back on the outside line swapping the lead back and forth. Dash winner Brown entered the mix leading to a three-way battle for the lead. Harlow prevailed started to pull away from Kreuger and Brown. Kreuger began to push wide lap after lap nearly catching the backstretch wall still while keeping Brown behind him in third. A quick yellow just after halfway and with the choose cone in effect it allowed Brown to take the outside line and start on the front row. This move proved significant as Brown took over the lead from Harlow after the restart. Another driver on the move was Bandolero graduate No. 5 Reagan Fruge, who moved up into fifth in just his first legend car start. Harlow and Brown continued to battle; switching lanes at opposite ends of the speedway fighting tooth and nail to be the one to cross the finish line first. On the final lap, Harlow cleared Brown entering turn one, and with one last effort into turn three Brown managed to get side by side with Harlow; drag racing side by side to the line with Harlow edging out Brown for the win. The fans were on their feet for a fantastic Legends finish.

Guardian Roofing Super Late Models

Fast Dash – 10 Laps

2025 kicks off a new season for the Super Late Models and with that a Brand-New title sponsor: our friends at Guardian Roofing. 2024 track champion No. 32 Brett Yackey & No. 78 Colton Crocker - who was pulling double-duty in the Super and the Legend - brought the rumbling pack to the green flag. Crocker didn’t get a good start which allowed the inside line of Yackey, No. 82 Michael Scott & No. 58 Kyle Ray to get by. Scott then used his patented high line to drive by Yackey on the outside and set sail in the lead. The field then strung-out single file with the only battle taking place between No. 17 Holly Clark & No. 18 Ed Vecchiarelli who battled for seventh. Scott moved back to the inside and never looked back grabbing the Fast Dash win.

Dash – 10 Laps

No. 61 Matt Martinez & multi-time track champion No.12 Bruce Yackey led the field to green. Martinez & Yackey ran side by side for the first lap until Yackey cleared Martinez and took off with the lead. Arizona driver No. 26 Dylan Jones entered the mix and tried to make a pass on Martinez for second; but Martinez slammed the door shut negating an opportunity for Jones to get by. Yackey started to pull away from Martinez as No. 3C Cassidy Hinds started to close in on Jones for third but couldn’t complete a pass. Yackey led wire to wire enroute to his dash victory.

Feature – 40 Laps

A strong field of 15 Super Late Models entered the ring to battle for 40 laps with No. 43 Kody Vanderwal & Crocker on the front row. As the field took the green flag, QuickTime & Fast Dash winner Scott did could get going; stacking up the field as Clark drove up under Scott’s rear end. Scott pulled to the infield on the backstretch with an apparent mechanical issue, ending his night. Vanderwal led lap one with Ray & Crocker battling for second with Brett Yackey right on Crocker’s back bumper. Yackey made the pass on Crocker just in time before the yellow came out when Vecchiarelli spun in Turn 2 bringing out the yellow flag. On the Lap 6 restart, Vanderwal shot ahead on the restart with Brett Yackey in second after the choose cone. Brett made a daring move to try to get back to the inside in Turn 1 and got together with Ray. Both cars were able to keep going, but this allowed Crocker to split the gap and take over second. It took Brett a couple of laps to catch back up to Crocker, but he managed to get by Crocker for second and start reeling in Vanderwal who stretched out to a sizable lead. The battle for fifth was also on-going between No. 24 Nathan Gasser & Clark. Clark made the successful pass on Gasser, but a couple laps later (while battling for fourth with Ray) got sideways and spun down the track; collecting Bruce Yackey who went airborne over Clark’s hood. Bruce fired the car back up with the crowd erupting in cheers and pulled back in line. Clark’s night was over. The following restart saw Vanderwal & Brett Yackey on the front row, this time Brett took the lead as Gasser took over third.

Another caution flew as Crocker spun in Turn 1, sending smoke billowing across the speedway. Everyone was able to avoid contact. Brett chose the top on the restart and kept the lead. As the race passed the halfway point, Yackey continued to lead with the top four cars single file. Gasser began to close in on Vanderwal for second and began testing the high line to try and get by. Gasser worked lap after lap, but ultimately proved unsuccessful in his bid to get Vanderwal. With just two laps left, Vecchiarelli & Martinez spun in Turn 4 setting up a Green-White-Checkered Finish. Brett & Kody started side by side as Vanderwal managed to jump ahead with the lead as they crossed the white flag. Coming to the finish, Yackey fought back using the inside line and was able to drive by Vanderwal to pick up the first Super Late Model victory of 2025.

Puzzle Effect Bandoleros

Bandolero Outlaws

Dash – 10 Laps

Imagine this: you’re a kid between the ages of 8-14 and really want to drive a race car competitively. The Puzzle Effect Bandoleros provide this opportunity to race competitively in front of thousands of fans each week. The Bandolero Outlaws are the faster class of Bandoleros. No. 2 Dutch VanderWal & No. 89 Justin Barnard saw the green first and immediately No. 61 Lillian Tuttle was right on the back bumper of VanderWal who led lap 1. No. 60 Liam Hammond also got by VanderWal negating him to third. Tuttle continued to lead until chaos ensued in the infield when Barnard and No. 95J Jaxon Muhler spun and collected No. 23 Peyton Opperman, this allowed Hammond to sneak by Tuttle for the lead. All cars were able to keep going and resume their race. Hammond hung on for the dash win.

Feature – 10 Laps

Hammond & Tuttle could once again resume their battle from the dash as they started on the front row in the feature. Hammond took off with the lead as the field strung out single file. No. 42 Lee Malavasic spun but kept going with no issue then on Lap 5, Tuttle got stuck behind a lapped car and spun out entering the infield; but she got the car going again and rejoined the pack. Hammond opened up a large gap over VanderWal and Barnard who were now running second and third. Hammond would not be denied he led the entire feature wire to wire in his brand new sharp looking No. 60.

Bandolero Bandit

Jr Bandit Dash – 7 Laps

The Jr. Bandits are our youngest and least experienced bandolero drivers who are just starting their racing careers. No. 8 Adalynn Smith & No. 77 Scarlett Jones brought the field to green and immediately Smith pulled away with the lead and began a single file formation. Just after halfway Jones began to close in on Smith for the lead, while No. 26 Dale Bain & No. 28 Chandler Gasser battled for third. On the final lap, Jones made a final challenge on Smith for the lead and was able to get by in the infield to grab the win.

Bandit Dash – 7 Laps

No. 07 Madison Stanley & No. 72 Conor Kellogg started on the front row. Right away, Stanley used her experience to pull away with the lead. No. 98 Kyleigh Novak spun on the big track in turns 1 & 2 in the infield but stayed clear. No. 23M Izaak Mead & No. 28P Hayden Powers battled for third, while No. 44 Emersyn Weitzel found herself in second. Novak was able to get going again a couple laps later; however, as she was re-entering the track she made contact with another competitor causing both to spin and bringing out the yellow flag. On the restart, Stanley continued to lead and pulled away from the field as Weitzel got passed by both Mead & Powers dropping her to fourth. Stanley picked up the dash win.

Bandit Feature – 10 Laps

A Total of 12 Bandits started the feature with Stanley & Mead starting on the front row. Stanley pounced first and jumped out to the lead with Mead remaining in second. Leaders encountered lap traffic early on and on Lap 3 Gasser & No. 29 Nora Smith spun entering the infield and the leaders had to split the spinning cars to avoid contact. Mead had the (almost) save of the night weaving his car back and forth before finally spinning out when the yellow flag came out. After the restart, Stanley picked up right where she left off and began to pull away from once again. Mead & Powers resumed their battle for position and just like in the dash, they caught second place Weitzel and went three wide to get by her for fourth; all this happening behind Stanley who swept the night of action.

Trains – 8 Laps

What would a kickoff to the 60th season of racing be without those Lowry Insurance Crazy Trains! Seven Trains entered the speedway as the crowd got on their feet. Per tradition, Flagman Kurt raced his way between the field of trains during the countdown to turn them loose. No. 69 Neighborhood Complaint & No. 91 Friday Night Special took off first with a 4-wide battle happening behind them. Last year’s champion No. 80HD SNAFU clipped the rear car with one of the infield berms; ending their night prematurely. As that was happening, No. 86 Last Call sustained left front damage; cutting the tire down. The race was red flagged when No. 22 Hot Mess Express got stuck on one of the Demo X jumps and slowly rolled back down onto the racing surface. Once the green came back out, No. 41 J&H Livestock Funny Farm grabbed second and while battling for the lead with Neighborhood Complaint got together and nearly spun the entire train out; sending cheers through the crowd. Both kept going; however, Neighborhood Complaint then threw a shower of sparks and retired prematurely. Then there were three: Funny Farm inherited the lead and picked up the first Train race of the season in chaotic fashion.
