(08-08-2015 Dacono Colorado) – On a night filled with breathtaking passes and red flag crashes, Dominic Ursetta held off a hard-charging Darren Robertson to win the Gillet Vet clinic Super Late Model 40 lap feature. Will Alvarado outlasted Kody Vanderwal to win the Lincoln Tech Pure Stock feature while Josh Lewis found victory lane in the ERA Supermodified feature. Kyle Clegg swept the night’s events in the Legend cars and “Big” Al Duran brought home the trophy in the Art’s Septic Service Figure 8s.

It would take 40 laps to determine the winner of the Gillet Vet Clinic Super Late Model feature on Chick-Fil-A “Don’t Count Yer Chickens” night and #84 Matt Zwingleberg and #12 Bruce Yackey filled out he front row when the green flag dropped. Zwingleberg and Yackey dueled side by side for the first few laps with #6 Dominic Ursetta poking his nose into the action looking for an opening. As the field headed into turn one Ursetta went to the inside of Zwingleberg creating a three-wide race for the lead.

The daring move paid off for Ursetta as he found himself all alone up front. Contact between Zwingleberg and Yackey sent the 84 car off to the pits for repairs in a cloud of smoke.

Ursetta wasn’t in the clear just yet as the #11 of Darren Robertson moved into 2nd place and began to put serious pressure on for the lead.

With 11 laps to go #39 Jack Nugent, #4 Brad Tilton, and #34 Rudy Vanderwal tangled in turn 3 and brought out the caution flag. On the restart Ursetta opted for the outside lane giving Robertson the inside line and Darren took advantage of it poking his nose out front and leading a lap. Yet Ursetta was simply too fast and quickly muscled his way past for the lead and the win. With the win Ursetta has now won 4 straight and a total of 7 on the season. Robertson finished a strong 2nd place. In 3rd was #9 Justin Simonson who found a fast groove up high to get around Yackey for an impressive top 3 finish. Yackey was 4th and #27 Roger Avants was 5th.

Bruce Yackey has a fairly commanding 47 point lead on Ursetta in the season point standings.

Lincoln Tech Pure Stocks

#84 Joe Mares Jr. from Aurora flexed his muscles at the start of the Lincoln Tech Pure Stock feature event by jumping out to a large lead early in the race. Behind Mares #21 Jamie Ward and #3% Will Alvarado were battling for second place. As the leaders ran into lapped traffic Ward and Mares thrilled the fans diving high and low to get around slower cars. At one point Ward went high coming out of turn 4 and then dove back down low sending him fish-tailing down the front straight directly in front of Alvarado. The daring move kept Ward momentarily in 2nd place behind Mares who still had a comfortable lead.

At the halfway point Alvarado finally had caught and passed both Ward and Mares for the top spot and began to distance himself from the field.

The only car with a shot at catching Alvarado became #43 Kody Vanderwal who started at the back of the field and had worked his way to the front. Kody only had a few laps left to reel in Alvarado which hid did. But when the checkered flag flew it was too little too late as Alvarado captured yet anther feature win. Vanderwal settled for 2nd place with Mares and Ward in 3rd and 4th. The final spot in the top 5 went to 02ss Sean Smith.

Alvarado now has a commanding 57 point lead over Jamie Ward and Joe Mares Jr. for the championship hunt with just 2 races left in the season.

Legends

Like a bullet shot from a gun #66 Kyle Clegg dove down low entering the first turn of the Legends feature event passing both #25 Adam Pechman and #3 Wayne Barlock Jr. before the field even made it into turn 2. That daring pass for the lead was an indication of Clegg’s determination on the evening where he had already set quick time and won the fast dash.

There was simply no stopping or catching Clegg who led every lap of the race which went green from flag to flag.

The best race on the track was for 2nd place between #15 Danny Medina and #6 Scotty Scott who traded the position several times all while navigating lapped traffic. In the end Medina was able to take 2nd place just ahead of Scott who took third. Barlock Jr. finished 4th with Darrel Stewart taking 5th.

Kyle Clegg has now won 4 legend features in a row and a total of 5 on the season at CNS.

In the points race Medina leads Scott by 30 points and Clegg by 38 who had a slow start in the early part of the season.

#15 Josh Lewis and #58 Kyle ray started deep in the field for the ERA Supermodified feature and it would be those two drivers that would thrill the fans moving up to the front of the pack. #51 Joe Prisilac was the early leader with #40 Judge Harry Stone not far behind. As Ray and Lewis approached the leaders Ray took the low line and Lewis took the high line. It didn’t seem as there were enough room for Lewis way up top as the drivers went three-wide but somehow he made the pass stick and took over the lead as the crowd gasped!

Ray look determined to grab the lead for himself but once again they had to make a 3-wide pass around a slower car and Lewis didn’t lift the throttle catapulting himself into a fairly large lead over Ray who had to slow a bit to clear traffic.

From that point on in the race Lewis seemed to be in a complete zone flying through turns 3 and 4 as if he weren’t lifting the throttle at all. Lewis used his corner speed to build a large lead over Ray and went on to take the checkered flag. Ray settled for 2nd and #2 Richie Castor Jr. was a distant 3rd.

There has not been a repeat winner in the Supermodified division this year with Harry Stone, Richie Castor Jr, Ricky Otts, and Josh Lewis all recording victories.

The points race couldn’t be much closer as Richie Castor Jr holds just a slim 3 point lead over #27 Roger “the iceman” Avants.

Art’s Septic Service Figure 8s

When the Figure 8 feature started #01 Rookie driver Michael Haywood was on the pole along side #52 Jared “Wally” Wall. Wally bolted out to an early lead with #50 Justin Mckeachie right on this tail. Mckeachie would soon inherit the lead when Wally pulled off for repairs under a caution for #12 Harvey Webb who spun in turn 1.

On the restart a fantastic battle for the lead shaped up between Mckeachie, #23 Al Duran, and #15 Jereme Wall yet as the 3 cars exited turn 2 Wall nudged Mckeachie and sent him spinning. Wall was sent to the rear of the field on the subsequent restart.

At the halfway point Duran had grabbed the lead and the action in the X was heating up. Most notably #5 Curtis Chavez who was shooting even the smallest of gaps in the X to thrill the fans. Wally Wall’s night got worse when a tire went down and he barreled hard into the turn one wall bringing out a red flag. Thankfully Wally exited the car under his own power.

With just 3 races left Jereme Wall holds a slight 13 point lead over Duran in the standings.
