Purple Wave Auctions Puts The Hammer Down At CNS

Updated: 1 day ago

May 10, 2025 ~ Dacono, CO

Colorado National Speedway hosted its second weekend of the 2025 season to perfect weather on May 10th, 2025 – and not only were fans treated to a hell of a show on the asphalt, but they also witnessed CNS history, too. A brand new pace car will show the way from here on out: a retired Dodge Charger police interceptor thanks to our friends at Colorado State Patrol, decked out in full CNS livery and celebrating 60 years of CNS plus 90 years of CSP. The keys were officially handed over to officials for the first time on Saturday much to the delight of the crowd on hand. On-track, the “choose cone” rule went into effect on the oval track for the second week, allowing drivers to pick their preferred lane on restarts. And, of course, being Mother’s Day weekend, we’re thrilled to have had the opportunity to recognize and celebrate some of the Moms of Racing. This year’s honorees included Cathy Caulkins, Shawni LaGuardia-Hilton, and Christi Yackey. Keep reading to get caught up on all the action.

Pueblo Bank & Trust Super Stocks

Fast Dash – 10 Laps

The No. 9 of Brent Cave took the lead soon after the green flag, filtering into a clean single file line until sixth place; after that, the field ran two-wide behind them. Cave continued to lead, keeping the No. 49 of Chris Cox in his rearview as the laps ticked off. Nobody had anything for Cave, who kept his nose clean and won the Fast Dash, well shut of Cox in second.

Dash – 10 Laps

The No. 99JR of Ryan Raley Jr. lunged into the lead with the No. 33 of Dillyn Kellogg hot on his heels. Kellogg delivered a tap to Raley’s rear bumper as they raced hard for the lead but couldn’t find a way to make it stick. Raley’s race car suffered an apparent mechanical issue on Lap 3, forcing his early exit from the race. The field made it eight laps before unraveling – the No. 57 of Jason Arbuckle snapped sideways on the backstretch, forcing the field to scatter to avoid him. After a brief caution, Kellogg took off with the lead, ditching the No. 88 of Jacob Poole on his way to the win. Gasser, meanwhile, battled Poole right down to the line for the runner-up position, barely hanging onto it.

Feature – 25 Laps

A massive field of 29 Super Stocks took to the track for the division’s Feature event. The No. 97 of Kyle Stidham surged into the lead, racing three-wide on the first lap to get the position. Cox filtered into P2, followed by Cave; by Lap 4, Cox had Stidham in his sights, bumping into the latter to remind him he was there. Cave passed Cox shortly thereafter, while the No. 23 of Jordan Abeyta and the No. 4 of Chris Jordan touched doors fighting for P4. Cave reeled in Stidham and pressured him for the lead, but it wasn’t long before Cox entered the picture. You could throw a blanket over the top three as they rounded the track. Cox took over P2 from Cave and pressured Stidham as the leaders began to catch slower traffic ahead.

The three-way fight for the top spot allowed Abeyta to close the gap, making it a four-car battle. Cox made his presence known by bumping Stidham and wearing out the rear bumper of the No. 97 machine. The top four stayed tight even as they navigated lapped traffic, but Stidham had the faster car through the mix, staying well ahead of Cox, who lost ground. By Lap 19, the leaders cleared the dicey traffic, and Cox did everything in his power to overtake Stidham. The track stayed green as the No. 81S of Tyler Shanahan spun out but stayed clear of the other cars.

Up front, Cox had backed off as he lost ground on Stidham for the lead, allowing Stidham to gap the field a bit as he once again fought through lapped traffic. Cox tried to rally back as Cave and Abeyta faded, but Stidham would not be denied – he shot across the freshly painted start/finish line to pick up his first career win, taking home some brand new hardware for his trophy case and a certificate from 5280 Pit Lighting for his milestone win. The race, overall, was clean and action-packed, going green all the way from start to checkers.

Fast Dash – 10 Laps

Before the track even went green, polesitter Cade Fox pulled off, surrendering the front row to the No. 6 of Scotty Scott and the No. 66R of Eric Rhead. Scott fired to the top spot right away, leaving Rhead at the mercy of the No. 69 of Forest Smith, who picked off the No. 58 of Kyle Ray for third and tried to reel in Rhead. Scott continued to lead as the field filtered into a single-file line, leading Rhead home.

Dash – 10 Laps

Three-wide action was the name of the game on the first lap. That allowed the No. 3 of Jeremiah Hill the opening he needed to take the lead from the No. 88 of Paul Himler. Behind them, two cars slammed together but managed to keep all four tires pointed in the right direction. The No. 55 of Damian Lockhart chipped away at Himler’s grasp on P2, checking for an opening with each passing lap. Their fight allowed Hill to gap the field, winning the Dash, and just in the nick of time, Lockhart dove low and overtook Himler, snatching the runner-up position at the line.

Feature – 30 Laps

The GAM field galloped to the green flag with a nice, even start. As soon as he could, Ray put his No. 58 machine to the point to lead Lap 1. While the top three drivers ran single file, the No. 13S of Jordon Smith overtook Rhead for P4, while Scott slotted into third. Just three laps in, the entire field followed Ray around in a single-lane formation – that is, until the No. 541 of Kirk Hunter tagged the wall, but kept his nose clean and continued. Ray continued to gap the field without breaking a sweat. Scott worked on Forest Smith, who held second place, pulling even with him after several laps of heated competition. On Lap 10, Scott demoted Forest Smith, pulling Jordon Smith through the gap with him as Forest Smith dropped like a stone.

The No. 21 of Ryan Jones (who set the night’s Quick Time) retired to the infield on Lap 12 but stayed out of the way of the active field. Scott chased Ray into lapped traffic and cut the gap, closing on his bumper while the No. 51F of Cade Fox – who started 10th – squeezed by Jordon Smith for P3. Up front, Scott tagged the wall and backed off as Ray ran off with the lead again. Going three-wide with lapped cars, Fox picked off Jordon Smith for third, then made short worth of Scott and took second. He reeled Ray in, and by Lap 26, he raced even with him, diving to the inside line and driving deep into Turn 1 as he finally completed the pass. Ray fell back, still solidly in P2, but well out of reach of Fox as the young driver paced the field. The 15-year-old Fox led all the way to the checkered flag, picking up his first victory in the GAM division in his first ever start.

Fast Dash – 10 Laps

The No. 15 of Brendan Knowles settled into an early lead. As the field bounced off one another, Ronnie Johnson saw a gap and put his No. 34 machine through it. He passed the No. 18Y of Justin Young before picking off Knowles for the lead as well, setting sail as the field strung out single file. Johnson, after his early race surge, held onto the top spot right to the checkers.

Dash – 10 Laps

After a false start, the field regrouped and tried again. The No. 10W of Gauge Witthar emerged as leader but spun after contact from the No. 56 of John Ranum. Witthar spun and Ranum inherited the lead with the No. 19Y of Justin Young Jr. in hot pursuit. Ranum continued to lead, keeping Young Jr. in his rearview as he led right to the checkers.

Feature – 25 Laps

Jumping to the lead right away was the No. 5C of Michael Steward, but he washed up high in Turn 2 and surrendered the top spot to the No. 12S of Shawn Sulley, but before the 20-car field could get much momentum, the No. 41G of Christopher Galvin tagged the backstretch wall and hammered the Turn 3 wall, triggering a red flag condition. Galvin was able to exit the damaged race car under his own power, and after a brief red to address fluids on the racetrack, racing resumed with the No. 63 of Kenneth Bowlus taking over the lead, while Sulley and Johnson raced three-wide with Steward, who spun out. Johnson flew past Bowlus to take the lead on Lap 4. Navigating lapped traffic, Johnson was briefly held up before getting clear, although it allowed Sulley to close the distance. However, Sulley also got trapped behind lapped traffic, allowing Johnson to gap him once more.

Johnson continued to lead while Sulley navigated traffic, bringing Bowlus through with him in P3. Sulley shot after Johnson, and the top three strung out equidistant from one another until lapped traffic became a factor once more. That allowed Sulley to cut into Johnson’s lead once again. After the checkers fell and postrace inspection was completed, the No. 12 of Shawn Sulley was recognized as the Feature winner.

Dash – 10 Laps

Slinging his No. 52 race car sideways, Jared Wall took the lead. Further back, the No. 3 of Michael Wolfe Jr. and the No. 15 of Jereme Wall charged through the field, hellbent on getting to the lead. After a brief caution on Lap 1 to address a stalled vehicle in the pit entrance, the race restarted – with some chaos – as Jared Wall took over the lead again, followed by the No. 38 of Javon Barnard, although that didn’t last long as Jereme Wall charged past him to do battle with his brother Jared up front. Jereme took control of the race from there, dodging traffic headed the opposite direction through The X. While Wolfe did his utmost to reel Jereme in, nobody could stand in defending champion Jereme Wall’s way as he went on to win.

Feature – 20 Laps

Things got off to a slow start in the F8 Feature when the No. 08 of Travis Sanders and the No. 52 of Jared Wall spun out heading into the first turn on Lap 1. Sanders pulled off, and after a brief caution, Jared inherited the lead. The No. 18 of Dennis Stepanich didn’t let him keep it for long, though – although they both came under fire from Jereme Wall, on a mission to defend his Dash win. After going three-wide, Jereme put his race car to the point, but he almost lost it as he had to stand on the brake to avoid another car crossing through The X. The next lap, Jereme didn’t lift, swerving dangerously around traffic to maintain his lead through the crossroads. The field, now well strung-out, continued to have close calls in The X, but nobody could touch Jereme as he continued to show the way.

Then, on Lap 13, the No. 67D of Keith Swenson contacted the No. 0 of Eddie Allen-Floyd Jr., who had been much slower than other traffic. Swenson was able to continue though his race car showed damage. Up front, Jereme outran Wolfe, holding onto the lead through a couple close calls in The X, picking up right where he left off after his Dash win, sweeping the evening’s F8 events.

Quick Time: No. 15, Jereme Wall, 27.293

10 Lap Fast Dash: No. 15, Jereme Wall

20 Lap Feature: No. 15, Jereme Wall
