Rain Ends ARCA Colorado 150 Prematurely At CNS

Updated: 1 day ago

We’re fast here at Colorado National Speedway, but even the fastest short track in the West can’t outrun the rain. On May 24th, 2025, we welcomed the ARCA Menards Series West back for the first time in several years. We were able to get some excellent racing action in before the skies opened – fans were treated to some fast laps from ARCA for their feature along with incredible Dash racing from our Grand American Modifieds and Late Models.

We want to thank all our fans who headed out to the track and tried to stick out the rain. We know it’s frustrating – we certainly didn’t want to see the track get washed out either! Anyone who purchased a ticket to an event that was affected by rain on May 24th or 25th can click here for more information.

ARCA Menards Series West

Feature – 150 Laps Scheduled; 60 Laps Completed

Twelve ARCA entries headed to the green flag, led by the No. 19 of Jake Bollman, who immediately jumped ahead at the start. The No. 71, driven by Kyle Keller, fell in behind him. Further back, the No. 3 of Todd Souza battled it out against the No. 1 of Robbie Kennealy, stalked by the No. 5 of Eric Johnson Jr. Five laps in, Bollman still showed the way, though Keller was doing everything in his power to reel him in. By Lap 9, the field was strung out as the ARCA teams settled in for the long haul – except for the No. 50 of Trevor Huddleston, who was on a one-man mission through the field after starting near the rear.

Johnson worked hard on Souza; after several laps wearing out the bumper of the No. 3, Johnson lunged to the inside and finally completed the pass, putting his No. 5 machine to third on the board. Lap 17 saw lapped traffic start to become a factor. Bollman maintained his lead, shouldering his way through lapped traffic. Keller saw his chance to close the distance, running right up on Bollman’s rear bumper. He searched high and low for a way to pass him, but lost his grip on the leader again as lapped traffic filtered between them. As Bollman stretched his lead and found a comfortable pace, Huddleston chipped away at Johnson and almost had him – at least, until a lapped car got in their way. He backed off and regrouped for his next shot at Johnson.

Bollman easily maintained the top spot. On Lap 45, the dreaded rain began to pepper the windshields of the ARCA field. They didn’t let up, keeping their cars matted as Huddleston pulled next to Johnson, giving him a run for third and finally clearing him a few laps later. Keller dug in and shot after Bollman, who held his lead as the rain began to pour down. The yellow flew to rein the cars into a safe speed on Lap 52. With Bollman in the lead, the field went on to run eight laps under caution before the track became drenched. With 60 laps on the board, officials directed the field off the track. Track drying efforts commenced immediately, although it was a battle fought in vain – the rain socked in and didn’t let up for several hours. At 10:20 local time, the race was declared official, securing Bollman’s first career series victory – and the 100th for Bill McAnally Racing in the ARCA division, too.

We didn’t get the full ARCA West race this year thanks to a stubborn patch of rain that seemed to have it out for CNS, but if past seasons are anything to go by, this series never disappoints. In 2015, our very own Chris Eggleston – then driving the No. 99 Toyota – outran Noah Gragson by a mere seven points to claim the overall series championship. Eggleston cruised to two race wins that season, proving he had the speed and gumption to outrun the field.

The ARCA West Series delivered another unforgettable finish at CNS during the 2019 Colorado 150. Hailie Deegan and her BMR Racing teammate, Derek Kraus, were running one-two as the race reached its zenith. Deegan dive-bombed her own teammate in a last-ditch attempt to pass him, cleaning him out and sending him spinning as she galloped around Kraus to take the checkered flag first. Kraus gathered his car and finished eighth. The move was controversial to say the least, but the fans ate it up, and it’s one of the defining moments of Deegan’s career and racetrack history.

“We ran our hardest race, everything I’ve been practicing, all the hard racing I’ve been running,” Deegan said after the race in 2019. “In the end, Derek ran me hard right there. So I was going to run him hard back. In the end, that’s racing. We were all going for the kill. In the end, I got the win. That’s all that matters.”

CNS is also extremely proud to host Mariah Boudrieau and Holly Clark, two familiar faces from our circuit who picked up the reins of their own ARCA West rides last Saturday. Clark has been racing since she was five years old, and she’s found success at the regional and national levels, including winning national USAC races at Circuit of the Americas and Indianapolis Motor Speedway. Her ARCA ride is fielded by Strike Mamba Racing.

Boudrieau first picked up a steering wheel at 11 years old, claiming two championships in her quarter midgets. In addition to driving part-time in the ARCA West Series, she competes in the Late Model division at CNS, and earned her first Feature victory in 2024. Boudrieau pulled double-duty on Saturday, swapping out her Late Model wheels for her ARCA race car several times throughout the night. She currently races for Performance P-1 Motorsports in ARCA.

Fast Dash – 10 Laps

Dan Alamaa led the field to green for the LM Fast Dash. It didn’t take long for the field to fall into a single file freight train, nor did it take long for Alamaa to gap the rest of the pack. The No. 15 of Mike Hannah briefly considered passing the No. 18 of Casey Wiggans, but backed out – and this let Wiggans hold onto his position, lighting out after Alamaa. The top three – Alamaa, Wiggans, and Hannah, respectively – broke off from the back half of the field. None could best Alamaa as he crossed under the checkers to pick up the Fast Dash win.

Dash – 10 Laps

Mariah Boudrieau, pulling double duty in the ARCA and Late Model divisions, looked strong as soon as the green flag dropped on the LM Dash. The No. 40 of Brandon Newey and the No. 116 of Adam Kimler each cleared the No. 39 of Ryan Newey. Brandon Newey had a big moment, chasing the back end of his race car and managing to hold onto his position at the same time. He centered Boudrieau in his crosshairs and made short work of her, pulling right alongside her with Kimler hot on his heels. She pushed high and allowed both Brandon Newey and Kimler past – and Kimler wasted no time in getting to the front himself. He and Brandon Newey raced side-by-side, hurtling out of Turn 4 in a drag race to the finish that saw Kimler win by a nose.

Fast Dash – 10 Laps

The No. 58 of Kyle Ray got up to speed faster than anyone else, leading the No. 32 of Cody Milan in second place. The No. 21 of Ryan Jones and the No. 90 of Frank Denning battled hard for fourth, tailing Cade Fox’s No. 51F – at least until Fox tagged the wall, slowing his race car up just enough to let Jones past. Fox regrouped and battled back to the inside of Denning but couldn’t make it stick. Fox kept after it, passing Denning as Ray left the rest in the dust. Jones tried his best to wear out Milan’s grip on P2, but ultimately fell short as Ray accepted the checkered flag in first with Milan in P2.

Dash – 10 Laps

Scotty Scott’s No. 6 launched out front with the No. 88 of Paul Himler right alongside him, although Scott’s challenge for the lead was short-lived as he spun on the apron of Turn 2. He stayed clear of the field, but several other cars were not so lucky as they tangled and necessitated a red flag to pick up several disabled machines. After the race went green again, Himler restarted alongside John Eric Vos in the No. 41. Vos suddenly slowed, allowing Himler to get away. Enter the No. 13 of Darin Clark and Scott, sweeping three-wide alongside Himler. Clark surged into the lead and captured the checkered flag.
