Simonson, Eggleston, Yackey, and Duran, get it done at CNS

(06-21-2014 Dacono, CO) The Van’s Equipment “Gets It Done” Night at CNS featured a large raucous crowd on a gorgeous Colorado evening that witnessed Justin Simonson lead flag to flag to take the Pro Truck feature event. A dramatic Legends feature was won by Chris Eggleston, and the young Brett Yackey and veteran “Big” Al Duran grabbed trophies in the Pure Stocks and Figure 8s.

Snap-On Tools Pro Trucks The Pro Truck division at CNS is one of the most competitive divisions at the track which is evidenced by the variety of drivers who show up in winner’s circle and the Van’s Equipment “Gets it Done” Night at CNS would be no different. Quick time was set by #34 Rudy Vanderwal with a 16.689, #52 Jereme Wall and #11 Steve Johnson would win the dash races and #31 Justin Simonson would be victorious in the feature event.

While Simonson started on the front row he did receive a serious challenge from the #7 truck of Adam Deines. Yet Simonson drove a flawless race and went on to take his first victory of the 2014 season. Deines finished 2nd, #51 David Johnson finished a strong 3rd place, #55 Dave Hunt took 4th, and your point leader #34 Rudy Vanderwal came home 5th.

There have been 5 Pro Truck races in 2014 yet there has only been one repeat winner in Rudy Vanderwal. Simonson joins Rudy, Adam Hilton, and Steve Johnson as feature winners this season. Vanderwal still maintains a solid 31 point lead over Simonson in the points chase.

RMLRA Legends With #15 Danny Medina on the outside of the front row to start the Legends feature it might seem like the race would be over before it started however Medina quickly felt the presence of #66 Kyle Clegg on his bumper. Medina and Clegg battled for the lead in the early stages along with #3 Wayne Barlock Jr and #22 Chris Eggleston.

Unfortunately the race was marred by several minor crashes but enough oil and fluids were deposited on the track that there was a good bit of cleanup eating up valuable race time.

As the race progressed Clegg, Medina, and Eggleston took turns leading the race and thrilled the crowd passing lapped cars in daring fashion.

With just 3 laps to go the leaders dove into turn 3 but a lapped car spun in front of them. Eggleston slowed to avoid trouble but Medina vaulted up and over Chris’s car and Danny proceeded to hit the #99 car of Brady Van Matre with full force. Medina was taken away in the ambulance with a possible broken arm. Eggleston’s car had significant body damage as his right front fender was pushed up awkwardly over the front of his car. Luckily for Chris the damage to the #22 car was merely cosmetic but to win the race he could only hope the fender would fall off while the cars were under the caution flag. In a show of sportsmanship Kyle Clegg allowed Eggleston to push his car up against the 66 car in a futile attempt to dislodge the precariously hanging fender.

On the restart Clegg was able to move passed the now un-aerodynamic #22 car and go on to take the checker flag, although in a post race tech inspection Clegg’s car was found to be under the weight requirement and he was therefore disqualified. Eggleston was awarded the win, #3 Wayne Barlock Jr finished a strong 2nd place, #34 Chris Cooper was 3rd, #13 Pete Dellarco was 4th, and #06 Mike Gallegos was 5th.

Lincoln College of Technology Pure Stocks The Pure Stock feature event started with high drama as the faster cars in the back moved their way to the front 3 and sometimes 4 wide causing many hearts in the crowd to skip a beat.

While #84 Daniel Mares lead the early portion of the race it was #96 Mike Steward and #32 Brett Yackey who were bolting their way to the front.

#3% Will Alvarado took the lead from Mares and settled into a groove. After a couple caution flags Steward found his way around Alvarado but Yackey was right on this bumper.

Duran grabbed the lead early in the race after a caution on account of car #19 Bruce Wall who slid high into turn 3 and hitting the rows of safer barriers near the pit road entrance. The barriers were sent flying in all directions causing a minor delay while track officials put the barriers back in place.
