Sunbelt Summer Scramble A Short Track Scorcher At CNS

May 30, 2026 - Dacono, CO

Colorado National Speedway welcomed another enthusiastic house of fans on Saturday, May 30th, 2026 as a diverse lineup of divisions took to the track. A rare appearance by the Wingless Sprints headlined the evening's racing program, joined by the always-entertaining Figure 8s, a Pro Truck doubleheader, and the Pure Stocks.

Adding to the evening's festivities, the Rocky Mountain Quarter Midget Association visited Colorado National Speedway and competed on a temporary infield course during intermission. While the cars may have been small, the talent on display was impossible to miss, offering fans a glimpse into the future of motorsports and showcasing the next generation of racers already beginning to make their mark.

Matco Tools Pro Trucks

Feature 1 – 20 Laps

Putting on a special double feature show, the PT headed out for their first of two main events, led by The No. 22 driven by Brian Yackey and the No. 9 of Curtis Heldenbrand on the front row. Yackey had his work cut out for him trying to keep Heldenbrand from riding the high side and passing him, but the No. 1F of Happy Ferree quickly overtook Heldenbrand and set after Yackey. A caution waved just two laps in for a single car incident, and Yackey and Ferree restarted on the front row. Ferree gave Yackey a run for his money, pulling side by side for a few laps. Neither driver could shake the other as Heldenbrand stayed right with them, too. Ferree was able to cut the distance in the corners while Yackey excelled on the straights, but Heldenbrand got his nose into the fight from P3. The three-way melee allowed Yackey to strengthen his lead, though. Heldenbrand still pressured Ferree for P2, while the No. 16 of Travis Roe held down fourth while behind him, the No. 29 of Dalton Webb kept the No. 85 of Jeff Walbaum at bay.

On Lap 12, another caution was thrown for another single car incident. Yackey resumed control when the green dropped as trucks raced two-wide throughout the field. Roe pulled ahead of Webb for P4, although the hottest battle in the field was between the No. 33 of Tyler Davis and the No. 86 of Tim Coate over eighth place. Davis finally got the advantage, while up front, Ferree and Heldenbrand hung on each other’s doors in a thrilling race for the runner-up position. The action was slowed again after several trucks made contact toward the middle of the pack and sent one into the Turn 1 wall, triggering a red flag with four to go. Once the racing surface was cleared, the green flag dropped on Yackey and Ferree up front again. Heldenbrand entered the conversation, but as Yackey took off, Ferree and Heldenbrand engaged in a tight battle for second. However, due to a single car spinning out, the race was declared official before the last lap was complete. Yackey picked up the win, followed by Ferree and Heldenbrand to complete the podium.

Feature 2 – 30 Laps

With the No. 20 of Tanner Faatz and Coate on the front row, the second of two PT features got underway. Faatz took the lead, while Heldenbrand charged around on the outside, picking off Coate and Davis and sliding into third place. Heldenbrand rode that momentum all the way to the front, hauling a tight grouping of four trucks in his wake. Faatz lost ground and fell to fifth, while Ferree charged through the pack, taking over the third position with just six laps in the books. Behind them, Coate overtook Faatz for fifth place, as Ferree picked off Webb for second place now, too. But Webb fired back and took the position back, but not for long as he was forced out of the lower groove and lost speed. Coate fell out of the top five suddenly as Yackey passed him, setting sail toward the front of the pack. Heldenbrand had to deal with some lapped traffic up front, but was able to get past them, creating a buffer between himself and Ferree, who found himself under fire from Roe. Yackey shot past Roe on the backstretch on Lap 21, taking third place and setting sail toward the front of the field.

With five to go, Heldenbrand still held a strong grip on the lead, but with Ferree and Yackey hard-charging toward the front, he had his work cut out for him. Yackey looked inside Ferree as the battle for second continued on. Yackey looked to the inside of Ferree with two to go, pulling side-by-side with him as Heldenbrand all but checked out. Yackey and Ferree appeared evenly matched until the last corner, when Yackey gained the upper hand and snagged the runner-up position in the nick of time before the checkers fell.

Quick Time: No. 1F, Happy Ferree, 17.225

Feature 1: No. 22, Brian Yackey

Feature 2: No. 9, Curtis Heldenbrand

Grease Diva Garage Pure Stocks

Fast Dash – 10 Laps

The green flag fell on the No. 08 of Tanner McKim out front. The No, 19Y of Justin Young Jr. went side-by-side with McKim for the top spot as the No. 04 of Aric Durand tailed them both waiting for his shot to pass them. McKim refused to give up the high line, pulling even with Young for a few corners before finally ceding ground and falling back to third. The No. 63 of Kenny Bowlus closed the gap and stuck right with the leaders through all this. Durand pressured Young as the top four broke away from the rest of the pack. McKim mounted a charge on the outside of Young once more, but wasn’t enough as they drag raced to the line, with Young holding on for the win.

Dash – 10 Laps

Led by Justin Barnard’s No. 89 and the No. 61 of JD Ellis, the PS field took to the track for their first Dash. Ellis shot out front in a hurry as the No. 21 of Malikai Spalding took control of second. Ellis checked out, while Barnard and Spalding battled hard for P2. Spalding got away with the position and left Barnard in the rearview, taking a shot at Ellis but falling back into the lower groove. The No. 29 of Trevor Hermosillo pressured the No. 19 of Derryk Smith for fourth behind them, but the leaders were too far gone for either driver to make much of a run at them. Spalding took a final pass at Ellis in Turn 4 on the penultimate lap but spun, leaving Ellis in sole possession of the lead, fending off a charge from fellow rookie Barnard on the last lap.

Feature – 20 Laps

Headed by a pair of rookies – the No. 23 of Peyton Opperman and the No. 14 of Jeff Yenisch – the PS Feature got underway in a hurry. Opperman outran the pack, which ran two- and three-wide behind him. In fact, they went three-wide for P2 – but Bowlus backed out before it could get too hairy as the No. 60 of Morrie Christner took control of second place and the No. 54 of Giovanni Scimeca slotted into third. By now, six laps in, the field had finally settled into a tense single-file line behind the leader, although the No. 1 of Derek Spalding quickly gained on Bowlus, looking to take control of fourth and get that much closer to the lead. Behind them, the No. 00 of Dylan Jaramillo looked for a way around Durand, trying to crack seventh place. Out front, McKim executed an incredible pass and shot from third to the lead, in one fell swoop, overtook Christner – although he couldn’t quite check out thanks to slower traffic in front of him.

That allowed Christner to gain on him, chasing him through slower traffic as he looked to the inside. On Lap 12, Christner looked low, threading the needle through a gaggle of lapped cars and taking the lead while he was at it. Behind them, Spalding had advanced on Scimeca and swept past him into third place, while Bowlus inserted himself into P5. Up front, Christner had all but checked out, leading McKim by about eight car-lengths as the white flag snapped through the air. It was the all-Christner show at the line as he led McKim and Spalding home.

Quick Time: No. 60, Morrie Christner, 20.085

Feature: No. 60, Morrie Christner

Fast Dash: No. 19Y, Justin Young Jr.

Dash: No. 61, JD Ellis

Wingless Sprints

Fast Dash – 10 Laps

The Wingless Sprints are always a treat here at CNS, ready to put on a blisteringly fast show for our fans. The No. 27 of Mike Hathaway and the No. 2 of Michael Fanelli led the field to green. Fanelli got out front in a hurry, tailed by Hathaway. The leaders opened a huge gap on the rest of the back just a few laps in, but the No. 92 of Coby Pearce and the No. 15 of Josh Lewis raced wheel to wheel, hanging right with each other. Lewis finally got the position, but by that point, the top two had nearly an entire straightaway of distance on the third-place car on back. Unchallenged, Fanelli continued to show the way right to the checkers.

Feature – 25 Laps

The pack shot underneath the green flag, already reaching incredible speed by the time they had reached the backstretch on Lap 1. Hathaway already had a massive lead by Lap 2, showing Fanelli the way as Lewis and the No. 28 of Ryan Riggs followed. Then, Lewis spun from P3, turning the position over to the No. 77 of Cole MacEwen as Riggs and the No. 90D of Frank Denning sliced into the top five. Fanelli began the long task of chipping into Hathaway’s lead. The leaders had more than a straightaway on the rest of the pack, but that advantage evaporated as a caution waved for a single-car incident in T4. Hathaway and Lewis took the field to green after the racing surface was cleared. Hathaway took control once more as Riggs pulled off a slick move to insert himself into P3. Meanwhile, Pearce tried to dig into the high line to find a way around MacEwen, but wasn’t able to make it stick. Even seventh place was hotly contested as the No. 55 of Gary Land and Lewis raced side by side for a few laps to decide the position. Lewis eventually got the upper hand, and the pack settled into an uneasy formation behind the leaders.

Up front, Hathaway continued his dominance, leading Fanelli and widening the cap with each passing lap. The P3 car of Riggs was almost five seconds off the pace by this point, showing just how much speed Hathaway and Fanelli really had on the rest. Earning his second-straight feature win here at CNS, Hathaway rounded the track to take the victory, followed by Fanelli and Riggs on the podium.

Quick Time: No. 27, Mike Hathaway, 16.576

Fast Dash: No. 2, Michael Fanelli

Feature: No. 27, Mike Hathaway

Exhaust Pros Northglenn Figure 8s

Dash – 10 Laps

The No. 15 of Jereme Wall shot out front with the No. 26 of Nick Martinez hot on his heels, but the No. 67 of Kylan Swenson sliced into second before they rounded back through The X. Wall checked out as the No. 3 of Michael Wolfe Jr. shot to the inside of the No. 8 of Beau Kellogg for fourth place, beginning a steady charge toward the front. Wolfe and Kellogg battled door-to-door as Wall continued to show the way, stretching out his lead. Wolfe finally overtook Kellogg for P4, going side by side with Martinez for third. Wolfe finally got into second, but with only a lap left, there wasn’t much time for him to track down Wall. When the checkers fell, it was Wall out front to win.

Feature – 20 Laps

Swenson and Wolfe took the field to green, and Wolfe wasted no time in making a pass at the lead, although Wall thought about making it three wide but backed out and fell to fourth. However, Swenson drifted high and surrendered the position, leaving the lead in sole possession of Wolfe. Kellogg held down second, trying to keep Wall behind him while simultaneously trying to keep pace with Wolfe. Kellogg tried his best to overtake Wall, but ultimately fell in behind him. Up front, it was all on Wolfe to outrun Wall as the field stretched out single file, setting the pack up for some great X action. While fighting for P3, though, Kellogg presented with an issue and had to pull off the track, leaving Swenson to inherit the position. Meanwhile, the No. 71 of Isaac Martinez was locked in a tight battle with the No. 20 of Isaiah Proctor and the No, 38 of Javon Barnard, all vying for the sixth position.

By this point, Wall and Wolfe had broken away from the field by a whopping seven seconds. Wall even paced Wolfe, neither gaining nor losing ground as they completed lap after lap. Then, with seven to go, the leaders finally caught slower traffic in The X, forcing them to make quick decisions to avoid a collision while simultaneously continuing their battle. Some close calls kept the fans on their feet as cars shot gaps from deep in traffic that they had no business shooting, but managed, somehow, to clear it. Up front, Wolfe continued to show the way, picking up his third feature win of the year and sending it completely sideways through The X in celebration. Even Wall stopped by Wolfe’s No. 3 in the Victory Lane to congratulate him on a race well won.

Quick Time: No. 15, Jereme Wall, 27.913

Dash: No. 15, Jereme Wall

Feature: No. 3, Michael Wolfe Jr.
