Ursetta and Nugent find Super Late Model glory on Famous Dave’s Special at CNS

(07-04-2015 Dacono Colorado) In a night filled with drama and a world class fireworks display Dominic Ursetta won the second Gillet Vet Clinic Super Late Model feature after Jack Nugget had scored his first feature win in the first feature. Brett Yackey took a dramatic win in the Great Scott’s Eatery Super Late Models while Will Alvarado dominated the Lincoln Tech Pure Stock division.

The Famous Dave’s BBQ Special would consist of two feature events for the Gillet Vet Super Late Models. The first would be a 30 lap event that had #84 Matt Zwingleberg and #39 Jack Nugent on the front row of a massive field of 26 cars. Nugget was fast on the outside and grabbed a slight lead. Incredibly the entire field of cars raced lap after lap, side by side, at full speed thrilling the fans and demonstrating the skill of division from top to bottom.

Nugent would eventually gain control of the lead and cruise to his first Super Late Model win of his career. #11 Darren robertson would take 2nd place with Zwingleberg in 3rd.

Nugent would also get the luxury of starting the final 50 lap feature up front giving him a great chance to win two in a row but when the green flag dropped he quickly fell back through the field with apparent mechanical difficulties. This time around it was #11 Darren Robertson who took the lead and began to settle into his groove. On lap 5 #6 Dominic Ursetta dove low and made it stick passing Robertson to take the lead. Behind Ursetta and Robertson Zwingleberg, #12 Bruce Yackey and #74 Dan Savage were battling for the 3rd spot.

With 30 laps to go Robertson took the lead away from Ursetta after a double file restart. Robertson was faster on the outside while Ursetta was quick down low making for a fantastic race between the two young drivers.

As the laps wound down #48 Preston Peltier from Charlotte North Carolina came into the battle for the lead after starting nearly dead last in the main. Peltier would thrill the crowd working his way past Yackey, Robertson, and ultimately Ursetta on the final lap to take the apparent win.

However, in post race tech inspection the 48 car was disqualified which turned the win back over to Ursetta. Yackey took 2nd place, Robertson settled for 3rd place with Dan Savage, and teammate Matt Zwingleberg rounding out the top 5.

Great Scott’s Eatery Super Stocks

#90 Kyle Patee came into the Super Stock feature with some extra motivation having proposed to his fiancée in front of the entire CNS crowd during opening ceremonies. Thankfully for Patee she said “yes” which saved a potentially embarrassing moment. With love in his heart Patee jolted out front in the main event with #3 Michael Cox not far behind.

#32 Brett Yackey started in 7th spot and had worked into 3rd place muscling his way past Cox for 2nd. Yet Patee had a large lead so Yackey settled into a groove and began to eat away at the deficit. Eventually Yackey would pull up on Patee’s bumper and the two drivers began to duel for the lead. Yackey dove to the low side and pulled along side Patee eventually taking the spot. Behind the leaders Michael Cox and #75 Levi Greenly were having a battle of their own for 3rd.

Patee wasn’t finished as he got a second chance during a late race caution and he was now next to Yackey for a green, white, checker finish. Yet as the cars entered turn 3 on the final lap #02 Darrel Smith pulled onto the track directly in front of the leaders at low speed after spinning the prior lap. Yackey and Patee did their best to avoid Smith but there just wasn’t enough room and Patee had to slam on the brakes losing a chance at the win and also giving up 2nd place to Greenly who slipped by.

Lincoln Tech Pure Stocks

At the start of the Pure Stock feature event car #03 Tyler Mander bolted toward the turn two wall near the pit entrance crashing hard into the safer barrier sending plastic and metal flying. The safer barrier did it’s job and Tyler was uninjured in the crash however Mander’s car was completely destroyed.

The scariest moment of the night occurred in the Mod Coupe feature when #5 Jason Bunt spun coming out of turn 2 and was hit at near full speed by #48 Michael Cox. The impact sent Bunt’s car sliding down the back straight and both cars were destroyed. Thankfully both drivers were okay.

Last years champion Jaime Bubak from Thornton Colorado went on to take the feature win.
