July 5, 2025 - Dacono, CO
Colorado National Speedway proudly displayed the red, white, and blue in more ways than one on July 5th, 2025. We had plenty of American flags around, beautiful flag flown above turn 2 by a 45 ton crane from B & C Steel Custom Crane Services, fireworks, and the Colorado State Patrol chipped in with their lights, showing off their fourth-gen Camaro interceptors in the Circle Drags. (In fact, the Circle Drags were dominated by Camaros – it came down to a pair of sixth-gen models at the end with the black Camaro taking the win at the line over its silver sibling.) The Winged Sprint Cars were out and about, circling CNS at close to 100 mph for their final event of the weekend and the season. With excellent racing from Pro Trucks, Pure Stocks, and Figure 8s to boot, Saturday night sure didn’t disappoint – and we wouldn’t have it any other way, especially in front of a SOLD-OUT crowd for the second straight year.
Winged Sprint Cars
Fast Dash – 10 Laps
July 4th Feature winner Bobby Santos III and his No. 22A machine headed off against the No. 1 of Sammy Swindell from the front row for the Fast Dash. Swindell wheeled it hard off Turn 1 and barely managed to take the lead on the first lap and began to ditch Santos. He was so fast, he almost caught the tail end of the field. Santos did all he could, but couldn’t cut into Swindell’s lead; it would be Swindell ahead at the line. (Swindell, a three-time World Of Outlaws champion on dirt, obviously had a fast machine, securing Quick Time, too.)
Dash – 10 Laps
The No. 15 of Eric Humphries managed to claim the top spot after a tough conversation with the No. OH6 of Adam Hilton on the front row. Humphries then buckled down and set sail, leaving Hilton with too much ground to make up, but that lead was nullified when a single car struck the wall and triggered a caution. Humphries and Hilton lined up next to each other again for the green flag, but Humphries ditched him again. Hilton did everything he could to get around Humphries but fell short at the line, finishing P2 to Humphries.
Feature – 40 Laps
Swindell started alongside the No. 92 of Casey Tillman, but several competitors spun out and prompted a complete restart once the mess was sorted out. Swindell assumed the lead when it went green, but Santos was on a mission to complete a Feature sweep and had already charged into second place by Lap 2. Then, another multicar incident triggered another caution, forcing Swindell to fend off Santos from the front row. Finally, the field was able to maintain single file formation, with the No. 14W of Aaron Willison sliding into third after a battle with Tillman. Swindell began to gap Santos, and just as the leaders caught lapped traffic, another incident slowed them up for a caution period.
This time, Santos took the lead and set the pace. The No. 14 of Davey Hamilton Jr. and Tillman duked it out for fourth, tailing Santos, Swindell, and Willison. Santos now had his hands full of lapped traffic, but got another shot at restarting on a clean track after yet another multicar incident at the halfway point. He readily took control on the restart, leading a single-file line of Sprints around the track, but lapped traffic slowed him down enough to put him in Willison’s clutches. However, Willison found himself stuck behind lapped cars as Santos wheeled around them. Willison regrouped and mounted another charge on Santos once they were both clear of lapped traffic. He came close, but no cigar – Santos swept the weekend for the third time, taking home his seventh trophy in the Winged Sprint Car event.

Fast Dash – 10 Laps
The No. 22 of Brian Yackey took off, clearing the No. 16 of Travis Roe for the lead and leaving him to defend the position against the No. 9 of Curtis Heldenbrand. Heldenbrand gained the upper hand in that battle and put Roe in the rearview, then locked onto Yackey up front, intent on neutralizing his lead. The No. 1F of Happy Ferree was all over the No. 50 of Tyler Wiggans for P3, going high to pass him before backing out. Yackey and Heldenbrand gapped the field until a multicar crash triggered a caution. Yackey reclaimed the lead on the restart and completed the final two circuits to win.
Dash – 10 Laps
The No. 4 of Chris Jordan and the No. 6 of Kip Sandell took off with the lead, racing side-by-side until Sandell found an advantage and demoted Jordan to P2. Tim Duvall’s No. 71 battled Jeff Walbaum’s No. 85 machine; clearing Walbaum, he also overtook Jordan. Walbaum, not to be denied, lined back up with Duvall, racing side-by-side for second place while Sandell maintained the lead. Walbaum ditched Duvall and tracked down Sandell on the last lap, taking the lead with two to go. He took off with the lead and finished well ahead of Sandell to take the victory.
Feature – 30 Laps
The No. 29 of Dalton Webb found himself in a three-way fight for the lead with Ferree and the No. 28 of Brian Weinmaster. Ferree got away with the position as Heldenbrand took advantage of the excitement to insert himself into P2. As Webb and Weinmaster plummeted, Ferree set a fast pace with Heldenbrand’s front bumper steadily growing in his rearview. Heldenbrand cut the distance to just two truck-lengths, but on Lap 12, a single truck spun and drew a caution flag. Ferree shot out front when the race resumed, ditching Heldenbrand for the position. Wiggans settled into P3 behind Heldenbrand, but he had his hands full with Yackey, who stalked him. Yackey took the position after a few laps, falling into line behind Heldenbrand. Yackey worked on Heldenbrand for a few laps before completing the pass, but by this point, Ferree had such a massive lead, there wasn’t much he could do to reel him in. Ferree held the position, picking up his second win of the season, followed by Yackey as the runner-up.

Fast Dash – 10 Laps
The green flag fell on a front row made up of the No. 53 of Josh Hopkins and the No. 12S of Shawn Sulley. The No. 18Y of Justin Young pressured Hopkins for P2, giving Sulley the chance to extend his lead. Young kept Hopkins behind him, but the No. 34 of Ronnie Johnson stuck his nose in the mix. Both closed on Sulley for the race lead. Sulley pushed wide, but Young was not close enough to take advantage of it. Sulley went on to win, while Young kept Johnson at bay for the runner-up position at the flag.
Dash – 10 Laps
After a dramatic start that saw the front-row starter Tyler Humphrey drop to the rear in his No. 57 machine, the No. 54 of Giovanni Scimeca claimed the lead. The No. 10W of Gauge Witthar fell in behind him – at least until the No. 08 of Tanner McKim forced his way into the conversation, passing Witthar with the No. 5C of Michael Steward in tow. Before McKim could make anything of his run, he ended up stranded in Turn 4 without power after contact from a competitor. Scimeca restarted beside Steward and surged into P1, where he stayed until the checkers dropped. Steward overtook Witthar on the last lap to finish second.
Feature – 20 Laps
The No. 63 of Kenneth Bowlus assumed the lead with Johnson in hot pursuit when the race started, but he never got the chance to extend his lead as several race cars made contact and forced a caution flag. Johnson restarted alongside Bowlus and lunged into the top spot while the pack spread into a three-wide cluster behind him. Sulley slotted into second place when the dust settled, but Johnson had a massive lead over him, but his efforts were cut short when another multicar incident slowed the field. Hopkins took the green next to Johnson. Johnson easily took control of the race once more, pulling away from Sulley, who passed Hopkins for second place. Johnson shot under the checkers well ahead of Sulley and Hopkins, respectively.

Fast Dash – 10 Laps
The F8 field was unable to complete its first lap as several cars made contact and spun out heading into the first turn. When things were sorted out, the No. 67 of Kylan Swenson took the green flag as leader – until a yellow waved again for another incident. Another restart put Swenson back up front, but not for long as the No. 52 of Jared Wall overtook him. Michael Wolfe Jr.’s No. 3 stalked them both in third place. Wolfe saw his chance and shot into P2, followed by the No. 15 of Jereme Wall. Wolfe then lunged past Jared Wall, leading a single-file line of race cars around the F8 course. Dodging slower traffic in the center, Wolfe went on to win with Jereme Wall knocking on the door – but Wolfe held him off at the line, just barely.
Feature – 20 Laps
Swenson again led the field to green for the F8 Feature, but Jereme Wall was already up to third place after starting in the fourth row after just one lap. The field became strung out early, making The X a hotbed for action just three laps in. Jereme Wall made short work of Swenson, followed by the No. 38 of Javon Barnard. Barnard held off a charge from Wolfe, which brought the No. 18 of Dennis Stepanich to the discussion. Barnard had to slow for some lapped cars, letting Wolfe and Stepanich by.
A caution waved for a single car spinning, restarting the race with Jereme Wall up front. Wolfe lagged a bit, letting Stepanich claim second. A dramatic multicar crash saw one competitor slamming into the infield dirt; he was able to nurse his limping car off the track, however. Jereme Wall maintained the lead when the race resumed. Wolfe tried to overtake Stepanich but couldn’t make it stick. They still battled while Jereme Wall did what he does best, dodging the back half of the field in The X and extending his lead. The race was called before the checkers, though, due to a mechanical failure from one of the race cars that soaked the track in oil. Jereme Wall was declared victor.
