Walbaum, Finley, Muhler, Livermore, victorious in crash filled night at CNS

Pair A Dice Interior Finishes Late Models #17 Paul Deines and #19 Scott Miller set the pace for the Late Model feature event and the quick Deines grabbed an early lead. After a minor crash involving #41 Dale Reeder stopped the race #98 Lee Kemmit took the lead from Deines on the restart. Deines was fast in the low groove and muscled his way by Kemmit to regain the lead. Deines’s lead was short-lived however as Kemmit followed suit and went low to get by Deines. The great battle for the lead had the fans on the edge of their seat and it wasn’t long until #8 Jeff Walbaum joined the battle. Unfortunately for Kemmit he had to pull off the track under caution for repairs and joined the field at the back of the pack. Deines was on the inside where he was comfortable but Walbaum found something up high and grabbed the lead from Deines just in time to bring home the win. Deines settled for 2nd and #3 Wade Grove finished an impressive 3rd. #46 Eric Blackard was 4th and Scott Miller hung on for 5th.

SUNOCO FUELS Grand American Modifieds

In qualifying for the Grand American Modifieds #77 Jeff Hansen set quick time with a 17.088 yet the fastest car in the DASH was clearly the #21 Jeff Hunter who appeared to be the car to beat in the feature. Hunter elected to start at the rear of the feature confident that he could work his way to the front. #44 Justin Case grabbed the early lead in the feature with #95 Dave Finely close behind. Both Hunter and Hansen were working their way up through the field when a red flag came out when Hansen was involved in a crash with #55 Dean Olsen, and #66 John Seely. With Hansen out of the picture it was up to Hunter to catch the leaders. Finley had found his way around Case and began to put some distance on the field and by the time Hunter had moved into 2nd place he just wasn’t able to pass the silver #95 of Finley who found a perfect groove and went on to win a well deserved victory. Hunter settled for 2nd, Case finished 3rd, #0 Ron O’Neil took home 4th and #8 Dan Alamaa rounded out the top 5.

CARC Mod Coupes The Mod Coupe feature event was marred by one of the scariest crashes in recent memory at CNS when #90 Frank Denning was passing the #33 of Chet Graham entering turn 3, Denning’s car got loose and then jerked hard right sending Frank head-on into the wall. Safety crews were on the scene quick tending to Denning who was just shaken up but his night was through as his car had extensive damage.

It was wingless night for the coupes and the retro look of the coupes had the CNS crowd remembering days of old at Lakeside and Englewood Speedway. Apparently #95 Cris Muhler felt comfortable without the wing as he set quick time, won the FAST DASH, and took home the feature win. #3 Kyle Ray appeared to be quicker than Muhler in the final stages of the race as he was clearly reeling in Muhler but there wasn’t enough time for Ray to make the pass and Muhler was able to complete the sweep of the night’s events.

Art’s Septic Figure 8s The Figure 8 main event was dominated by #17 Harry Livermore Jr. who lead from start to finish. Try as they might #26 Nick Martinez and #50 Justin McKeachie could not catch the black and hot pink #17 who was the class of the field and brought home the trophy. The race wasn’t without drama as #10 Frank Gastineau spun into the infield, hit the DEMOX jump and rolled over putting a scare into the audience. Thankfully Frank was uninjured and was determined to finish the race but his roll cage was compromised during the crash therefore he was unable to continue. The top five finishers consisted of Livermore Jr. Martinez, McKeachie, #2 Lance Proctor, and #23 Al Duran.
