Gillet Vet Clinic Late Models

Eight time Super Late Model track champion Bruce Yackey got the lucky pill draw putting himself on the pole position for the 40 lap Gillet Vet Clinic Super Late Model feature event. Yet even with “the Moose” up from this wouldn’t be an easy win as #31 Rick Smith challenged Yackey on the outside and led several laps in the early stages of the race. #11 Darren Robertson appeared to have found his groove and also led for a brief time but Yackey remained undeterred and regained the lead.

For the remainder of the race Robertson and #84 Matt Zwingleberg were glued to Yackey’s bumper waiting for just the right moment to make a move. Occasionally Robertson would try to poke his nose down underneath Yackey but just couldn’t get the bite to make the move stick.

Behind the leaders another exciting battle for fourth, fifth, and sixth, was raging between Rick Smith, #66 Darren Bucklen, and rookie #58 Kyle Ray. #9 Justin Simonson and #39 Jack Nugent were racing hard for seventh and eighth place making for an exciting race throughout the large field of Super Late Models.

When it was all said and done Yackey held on for his second straight feature win of the season and padded his point lead on the rest of the drivers. Robertson and Zwingleberg finished a strong second and third while Bucklen, and Smith took home fourth and fifth.

Great Scott’s Eatery Super Stocks

If you are keeping a list of up-and-coming “drivers to watch” you better put young Levi Greenly on the list. This former starting college football player turned race driver is making a name for himself at CNS and put the Super Stock division on notice winning the feature in impressive fashion. Greenly had already won the fast dash but had to start all the way back in eighth position in the main event. #90 Kyle Patee took the early lead but #3 Michael Cox went to the inside and took the top spot on lap seven. The patient Greenly worked his way to the front and eventually passed Cox with just eight laps remaining.

Greenly was navigating lapped traffic and trying to keep Cox, Patee, and #32 Brett Yackey behind him and with just three laps to go came out of turn four completely sideways. Greenly masterfully hung on and maintained the lead landing himself in winner’s circle for the first time at CNS. Cox took the second spot with Patee and Yackey in third and fourth. #9 John Patee was the final car in the top five.

The Super Stocks return to CNS on Saturday June 27th.

Legends

#20 Kynzer Riddell and #30 Darrell J Stewart filled out the front row for a 25 lap Legend feature. It was a large field of cars and current point leader #15 Danny Medina grabbed the lead on lap four coming from his sixth place starting spot. Medina’s biggest rival Kyle Clegg was in Mexico for his honeymoon so #21 Ryan Jones and 1w Jereme Wall took up the challenge and began to battle Medina for the lead.

With so many cars starting the feature there were battles for position all over the track and the leaders were navigating lapped traffic making for an exciting race.

When the checkered flag flew it was Medina, Wall, and Jones, finishing one, two, three. Unfortunately for Wall he failed the post race tech inspection relegating him to a last place finish. Jones inherited second place with #6 Scotty Scott in third, #30 Darrell J Stewart in fourth, and #25 Adam Pechman in fifth position.

The Legend cars will return to action at CNS Friday July 3rd.

Lincoln Tech Pure Stocks

It only took Will Alvarado five laps from his sixth place starting spot to grab the lead in the Lincoln Tech Pure Stock feature from #4 Brian Galvin and he set sail building a lead on the field. #84 Joe Mares who also started deep in the field worked his way up to challenge for the lead. A late race caution flag gave Mares and #43 Kody Vanderwal a great shot to knock Alvarado out of the top spot but Alvarado stood strong and won his third straight Pure Stock feature event.
