Take 5 Oil Change Independence Day Celebration Celebrates Kicks Off July 4th Weekend

July 2nd, 2022
What better way to celebrate the birth of the United States than by witnessing an all-American racing series at Colorado National Speedway? King of the Wing Sprint Cars, Legends, Pure Stocks, and Bandoleros put on a good show for the packed grandstands, and fans were treated to a top-tier fireworks show on Saturday night, topped off by a thrilling round of Circle Drags, which saw a blue Corvette the ultimate victor.

King of the Wing Sprint Cars
Feature – 30 Laps
Seeing the King of the Wing Sprint Cars is always a treat here at CNS, as they are the fastest race cars to take to the track here. The No. 6G of Bryan Gossel showed the way to the green flag, with the No. 12B of Monty Bergener on the outside. The No. 6G of Gossel checked out, stretching his lead ahead of the pack, and began to hit lapped traffic just nine laps into the feature event. Enter the No. 14W of Aaron Willison, who moved to take advantage as the No. 6G of Gossel navigated traffic. With 11 laps left to go, Willison’s No. 14W made the pass and took over the top spot as Gossel faded into lapped traffic. Then, the No. 14 of Davey Hamilton Jr. got around Gossel for second and set his sights on the No. 14W of Willison. The No. 95 of Cris Muhler stole third place away from Gossel to finish third. At the checkered line, it was all about the No. 14W of Willison as he earned the Sprint Car victory of the night.

AC Transmission & Total Car Care Legends
Feature – 25 Laps
The No. 03 of Darrell Stewart got out front early, with the No. 22 of Chris Eggleston on the outside and the No. 15 of Danny Medina in hot pursuit. The field battled side-by-side as the race got underway. Two laps in, the No. 15 of Medina took over the top spot, followed by Eggleston’s No. 22 while Stewart’s No. 03 fell back to third. Eggleston traded the first position with Medina’s No. 15, while the field stacked up like a freight train behind them. With 19 laps left on the board, a multicar incident occurred in Turn 4, but it was quickly cleaned up. Medina’s No. 15 easily leapt out front yet again, the No. 22 of Eggleston in hot pursuit. As Medina reeled in lapped traffic, Eggleston looked to take advantage of it, but Medina pulled away. The No. 33 of Dillyn Kellogg went around in Turn 2 all by himself, and the ensuing restart saw Medina’s No. 15 back out front and the No. 66 of Kyle Clegg close behind. For the rest of the race, the No. 15 of Medina and the No. 66 of Clegg battled each other for the race lead, but when it was all said and done, the checkers flew over Medina for his second straight Legend feature win.

Rock N Roll Brewery Pure Stocks
Feature – 25 Laps
The No. 5c of Kyle Carrasco and the No. OH6 of Mahkrysta Hilton showed the way to the green flag. At first, it looked like the No. 5c would be the car to beat, eking out ahead of the fast No. OH6, who got a push from the No. 41G of Christopher Galvin. However, just one lap in, an incident in Turn 1 slowed the field, as the No. 76 of Russell Darnell and the No. 3A of Dylon Alvarado made contact and forced the field to slow. Hilton used the ensuing restart to her advantage, taking off ahead of the No. 5c of Carrasco and the No. 4 of Galvin. Carrassco tried to make it work on the low side but couldn’t find the speed to get around Hilton’s No. OH6. Another caution was thrown for the No. 7 of Dave Wheeler, who pounded the wall in Turn 2. Hilton’s No. OH6 took advantage of the restart once again and found her way out front with ease. The race continued without major incident, until the No. 9 of Gaylen Baker got loose off Turn 4 but gathered it back up and continued. Hilton guided the No. OH6 across the line and secured the Pure Stock feature victory of the night.
