Buckeye Welding Supply Arcs & Sparks Lights Up CNS

June 14, 2025 - Dacono, CO

When the Super Late Models and Grand American Modifieds hit the asphalt at Colorado National Speedway on June 14th, 2025, there was more waiting at the stripe than just a trophy and bragging rights. Both divisions had their eyes on the cash prize, and their battles were nothing short of spectacular. Supported by entertaining and drama-filled races from the Pure Stocks, every driver in every class was on a clear-cut mission to best the rest of the field. Saturday night was, as usual, an affordable and incredible way to celebrate Dad on Father’s Day weekend – and our fans were even treated to a sneak peak at Sunday’s monster truck show.

Read on below to get caught up on all that went down at CNS last weekend.

Guardian Roofing Super Late Models

Feature 1 – 40 Laps

With a generous purse dangled in front of them, 16 SLM competitors thundered to the green flag for the first of two Feature events. The No. 08 of Jace Hansen steadily paced the No. 82 of Michael Scott right at the drop of the flag, and when he saw his chance, he lunged into the lead. The No. 05 of Nick Cooper scrapped for P5 in a brief battle with the No. 22 of Chris Eggleston; Cooper eventually muscled past and got away with the position. Up front, Hansen continued to set an incredible pace, ditching the field as it filed into a freight-train formation behind him. Lap after lap, Scott paced Hansen, slowly chipping away at his lead as he threw his No. 82 machine into his preferred high line.

The No. 32 of Brett Yackey, meanwhile, began to close on Darren Robertson’s No. 11 machine for possession of P3. For a few laps, they pulled alongside each other; all the while, Scott continued to work on Hansen’s lead. He settled into the high line but had to back out a bit as his back end snapped loose, allowing Hansen to gap him once more. As lapped traffic became a factor, Hansen focused on hitting his marks to keep the hard-charging Scott behind him. However, slower race cars proved to be too much of a challenge for Hansen, who began to struggle, allowing Scott the opening he needed to close the gap. They pulled side-by-side, battling alongside each other through lapped traffic. After a brief, but hard-fought, battle, Scott finally gained the upper hand in the fight and shot ahead. Scott went on to win the race with Hansen and Robertson in tow, earning valuable points and taking home the night’s first $1,500 purse. Hansen walked away with $1,000, while Brett Yackey quietly swept the $750 prize.

Feature 2 – 60 Laps

With more prize money on the line, the SLMs headed out for their second Feature race, following the No. 22Y of Brian Yackey and Cooper’s No. 05 to the green. However, early on, a single car spun out; after lining back up, Cooper barely snagged the top spot, ditching Brian Yackey. Eight laps in, the leaders still hadn’t shaken each other, and the top six still raced in double-file formation for position. Cooper dove in front of Brian Yackey for the lead, heading a five-car breakaway at the front of the field. Robertson harnessed the outside lane to force his way into P2, while Scott, having started on the third row, passed Hansen for fourth. Robertson and Brian Yackey kept at each other for the second spot as Cooper ran away with the lead. Hansen, renewing his battle with Scott from the first Feature, passed Scott, leaving Scott to fight with Brett Yackey for the fifth position.

Brian Yackey finally took second place, but not for long; Hansen charged past him and took the position in Turn 3. Robertson’s handling seemed to fade as he plummeted to seventh place. Brian Yackey, meanwhile, soon found himself falling victim to Scott. Up front, Hansen lit out after Cooper for the lead. The two racers battled valiantly for the top spot for a few laps until Cooper just couldn’t hang onto his position anymore. Hansen was able to get to Cooper’s inside and took the spot away, and Cooper now found himself in the clutches of a determined Scott for second. Scott cleared Cooper with ease and started working the high line again. He charged into each corner, cutting the gap lap after lap, closing on Hansen for the lead; behind them, Cooper, Brian Yackey, and Brett Yackey locked into a tough fight for P3.

Lapped traffic became a factor once again with less than 30 laps to go. Hansen got through it, but his struggle through slower traffic allowed Scott to catch up. Scott took his race car into the bottom lane, looking for any bit of track he could get his hands on to reel Hansen in. However, Hansen began to pull away again, thanks to slower traffic getting in Scott’s way. Though Scott tried to use his favorite tool – the uppermost line – to close the distance on Hansen, It was too little, too late. Scott drove so hard he almost lost his race car but managed to rein it in and keep his position, but the upset cost him valuable time as the laps ticked off. Hansen lapped every race car up to ninth place and kept Scott in his rearview to win the night’s second feature and the $1,500 purse by one point over Scott.

Sunoco Race Fuels Grand American Modifieds

Feature 1 – 25 Laps

Twenty-three snarling GAMs took the green behind the front row of the No. 08 of Jace Hansen (pulling double-duty in SLM and GAM) and the No. 21 of Ryan Jones. Hansen washed up the track and let Jones lead the first circuit, but before the field could get up to speed, a multicar incident triggered a caution. Jones defended his lead and put Hansen behind him when the green fell again. Jones began to gap Hansen, followed by the No. 51F of Cade Fox – at least until another caution waved for an incident on Lap 7. Jones kept the lead again, towing Hansen and Fox behind him. The No. 66R of Eric Rhead got past the No. 18 of Edward Vecchiarelli for the fourth position. Finally, Fox got past Hansen for P2, as Vecchiarelli plummeted through the standings, allowing the No. 9 of CJ Wilson and the No. 58 of Kyle Ray to get past him.

Fox began to cut into Jones’ lead. Hansen managed to keep Rhead behind him for P3, but the race took a turn when a multicar incident once again drew out the yellow. Hansen and Jones lined up on the front row again – at least until a competitor experienced a mechanical failure on the restart, stacking up the field. After a brief red flag period for cleanup, Jones and Fox commanded the front row for the restart. Jones got away with the lead while the pack jostled behind him, taking the checkers well ahead of his competition and winning the $1,000 first-place purse. Fox took home $750 for his second-place effort, and Hansen’s third-place finish earned him the $500 bonus.

Feature 2 – 50 Laps

With more extra cash on the line, the GAM field followed Fox and Rhead to the green for their second of two Feature events. Fox cut into the lead and settled into a groove, ditching Rhead for second, while Hansen worked on the No. 89 of Jacob Smith for P3. Wilson began to cut into Rhead’s grip on second place, while up front, Fox already had his hands full of lapped cars by Lap 11. The field strung out in a single-file line, following Fox circuit after circuit.

Wilson wouldn’t let Rhead get away with P2, though. Rhead tried everything he could to claw past Wilson, but couldn’t make anything stick. Heavy lapped traffic became a factor up front, forcing Fox to navigate slower cars as quickly as possible without letting Wilson make up any ground. Wilson saw it and used the obstacles to his advantage. With no relief from lapped cars in sight, Fox buckled down, but Wilson got his shot when Fox was held up behind a slow car. Wilson locked onto Fox and stuck with him, but right as he was about to complete the pass, a yellow waved for debris. That set the stage for a series of cautions that saw some leaders involved, and allowed Rhead the opportunity to restart on the front row with 10 laps to go. Hansen, meanwhile, got up to P3 after Wilson faded, and Rhead extended his lead over the second-place Fox.

Fox spent the rest of the race trying to reel Rhead in, but simply ran out of time by the time the checkers waved. It was Rhead up front at the stripe, earning the Feature win (and his first at CNS, which entitled him to a generous certificate from 5280 Pit Lighting), but the drama wasn’t done. Rhead and Fox tied as the overall winner for the night, and officials elected to split the $1,000 purse between them for their performances.

Fast Dash – 10 Laps

Led by the No. 5C of Michael Steward, the PS field settled into a side-by-side fight throughout the field. Steward led the first lap while Brenden Knowles put his No. 15 machine into P2 and the No. 63 of Kenneth Bowlus followed in P3. However, the No. 18Y of Justin Young powered past Knowles, followed by the No. 12S of Shawn Sulley. Young set after Steward, pressuring him for the lead. Young sealed the deal at the last second as the flagman waited with the checkers in hand. Steward managed to hold off Sulley for P2, following Young across the line. But the drama didn’t end there – a multicar incident unfolded after the checkers dropped. Steward went over, rolling into Turn 1 and landing on all fours. Thankfully, all drivers were able to exit their race cars under their own power.

Dash – 10 Laps

The No. 00 of Dylan Jaramilo jumped into the lead with the No. 08 of Tanner McKim in hot pursuit when the green waved. While Jaramilo took off with the lead, McKim fended off the No. 10W of Gauge Witthar, tightening his grip on P2. McKim set after Jaramilo, wearing out the No. 00’s rear bumper until Jaramilo slipped up and left McKim an opening to slide into the lead. It was a drag race to the line from there – Jaramilo and McKim split a lapped car and fought side-by-side for the lead right to the stripe. Jaramilo was barely out in front, but it was enough to take the Dash win.

Feature – 20 Laps

Even though he went for a wild ride in the Fast Dash, the talk of the grandstands was the No. 5C of Steward, who headed back out to compete in the PS Feature after rolling his race car. He took the green from the second row, while Bowlus and Knowles led the field. Knowles took off with the top spot, leaving Bowlus to fend off the No. 34 of Ronnie Johnson for second place. Johnson made short work of Bowlus and took possession of P2. Johnson kept his race car matted and filled Knowles’ mirrors. All he needed was a few laps to make it happen – he dove to the inside of Knowles for the lead, taking it in Turn 2. Johnson began to gap the field from there, extending his lead even as a few cars experienced mechanical problems and retired from the race.

With five laps to go, a single-car incident drew a caution, setting up the field for a sprint to the finish. Johnson was able to get away with a massive lead once again even as chaos unfolded behind him. Johnson, undeterred, led to the checkers without incident, taking the Feature win after a dramatic race.
