Inland Truck Parts Heavy Duty Showdown A Smash Double-Feature Hit At CNS

May 9, 2026 - Dacono, CO

May 9th, 2026 at Colorado National Speedway brought cool temperatures after sunset, but the racing action stayed red hot long after the track lights flickered on. Packed fields and nonstop battles kept fans on their feet all night as the Grand American Modifieds, Pure Stocks, Super Stocks, and Figure 8 racers put on another unforgettable show at CNS on Mother’s Day weekend.

The night also held a deeper meaning throughout the pits and grandstands alike, as fans, crews, and drivers came together to honor the memory of Chad Sutherland, beloved racer and friend to so many within the CNS family. Fittingly, the drivers delivered the kind of hard-fought, edge-of-your-seat racing he would have loved, turning a packed evening of double features into one to remember.

From intense battles for position to dramatic late-race moments, there was no shortage of action once the green flag flew. Let’s take a look back at everything that went down under the lights at CNS.

Inland Trucks Parts & Service Grand American Modifieds

Feature 1 – 25 Laps

With 24 GAMs out in the field, things were bound to get insane – and they did, fairly quick. While the No. 32 of Cody Milan sliced into the lead as soon as he saw the snap of the green flag, the No. 51 of Cade Fox and the No. 18 of Ed Vecchiarelli bounced off each other, sorting Fox into second place. That left Vecchiarelli at the mercy of the No. 21 Ryan Jones, and after a tense discussion for a few laps, Jones got away with P3. Fox chipped away at Milan’s lead and finally completed the pass, although he didn’t have a chance to lay down some speed before a multicar wreck brought out the caution flag. Fox defended his position on the restart as the top seven racers filtered into a single-file freight train. But try as he might – even dodging some lapped cars – Fox couldn’t shake Jones, who stuck to him like glue. The No. 08 of Jace Hansen marched through the field, inserting himself into P3, and began working on Jones. Hansen could not continue to pace the leaders and fell back. Up front, Fox continued to extend his lead, dodging lapped cars, but he would not be denied and led right to the checkers, showing Jones and Hansen across the line.

Feature 2 – 30 Laps

Frank Denning’s No. 90 machine showed the way to the green flag, but the No. 48 of Eddie Vecchiarelli sank his claws in and dove after him, while the No. 69 of Forest Smith lurked in third and waited for his opportunity to pounce. Vecchiarelli stuck his nose up high after Smith mounted a charge, fending off the No. 69 machine and keeping his second-place showing. You could have thrown a blanket over the leaders as they paced the track, at least until Vecchiarelli broke free of the trio and launched himself into the upper groove. That gave him the advantage he needed to get away from Denning and Smith, pounding into the lead on Lap 8. Hansen and Jones, meanwhile, went two-wide for fifth place, and Smith found some speed and picked off Denning for second place. Up front, Vecchiarelli began to gap Smith. A bit of rain began to pepper the windshields on Lap 19 as Vecchiarelli maintained control, but the drivers didn’t lift. Vecchiarelli slalomed through lapped cars, intent on keeping his advantage over Smith and Hansen, who’d overtaken for P3. However, as the rain cascaded down and rendered the racing surface unpassable, the race was halted with three laps to go and declared official with Jones up front to take the win.

Pueblo Bank & Trust Super Stocks

Feature 1 – 20 Laps

A horde of 35 SS racers took the green flag, headed by the No. 12C of Chris Cox. Cox traded the lead back and forth until he finally got away with the top spot, but not without pressure from the No. 23 of Jordan Abeyta and the No. 4 of Chris Jordan. Cox and Jordan made light contact, but kept it clean and continued on. Emilio Abeyta, driving the No. 75, shot through the field and leaned on the No. 12S of Shawn Sulley, while Abeyta tried every line he could to find a way around Cox – and tried to dodge lapped traffic while he was at it. Cox got through it faster, though, but couldn’t shake Jordan Abeyta. Emelio Abeyta fell to fourth, trying to fend off Brent Cave’s No. 9 for the position. Unphased by Jordan Abeyta’s attempts on the lead, Cox continued to show the way as lapped traffic got thicker with each passing lap. Jordan Abeyta took one last shot at Cox on the closing lap, but it was for naught – Cox would lead flag-to-flag to win.

Feature 2 – 25 Laps

After several laps jostling for position, Emilio Abeyta shot to the inside of the No. 82 of Ian Clark for the lead, swerving around slower traffic to make it happen. Clark, pushed out of the lead, now found himself in a deadlock with the No. 12S of Shawn Sulley for the second position. Sulley got away with it, and Clark dropped through the field after a brief three-way battle for P3. The No. 61 of John Humphrey saw his chance and took it, rocketing into the top three, pressuring Sulley for P2 with Cave hot on his heels. Humphrey overtook Sulley and started cutting into Jordan Abeyta’s lead. A multicar incident triggered first a caution, then a red flag. The green flag fell on Emilio Abeyta and Jordan Abeyta up front as father and son went two-wide for the top spot. Cave sent it trying to overtake Humphrey, and the field scattered when the two made contact – though they managed to keep their race cars pointed in the right direction without going for a spin. A single car stalled in Turn 4 neutralizing the field, though, as Emilio and Jordan led the field to green for one final restart. Jordan Abeyta shot out front as Cave took advantage of the chaos to shoulder his way into P2. Jordan Abeyta kept rolling with the lead, cruising across the line to win the second of two SS features.

Grease Diva Garage Pure Stocks

Feature 1 – 20 Laps

Tanner McKim wasted no time in putting his No. 08 machine to the point, leading the field of 22 PS racers across the line. The No. 19Y of Justin Young quickly overtook for P2. Several cars slammed doors vying for third, but it did little to deter McKim, who easily gapped Young, even though they’d already caught the tail end of the field just five laps in. By Lap 7, every inch of the racing surface was covered with cars. The No. 52 of Nic Wall galloped through the thick of it to capture third and started chewing into Young’s hold on the runner-up position. The No. 1 of Derek Spalding, however, wouldn’t let them have all the fun, and  joined the discussion for the podium. Soon, he’d picked off Young, which only left McKim between himself and the victory. However, McKim kept his nose clean and continued leading right to the checkers, picking up his first-ever PS division victory.

Feature 2 – 25 Laps

The No. 63 of Kenny Bowlus launched into the lead as soon as the green fell on the second of two PS features. But he couldn’t shake the No. 54 of Giovanni Scimeca, whose race car came to life under him and shot into the lead with Spalding right on his heels – at least, until Spalding sent it a little too hard and spun himself out. That opened the door for the No. M60 of Morrie Christner to take control of P2, and he carried that forward momentum right to the leader as Scimeca held command. Young picked off one car after another before entering the discussion for second place, pressuring Christner for the honors. Their battle let Scimeca gap the pack as he continued to lead. Spalding, however, steadily marched his way through the field, and he got his chance at the leaders when two other cars inside the top three made contact and scrubbed off precious speed. Scimeca kept dodging lapped traffic as he maintained the lead. Christner and Spalding battled for third as Young reclaimed the runner-up position, but not for long as Christner rocketed back around the outside in an attempt to take control. Christner had to settle for P2, though, as Scimeca cruised around to take the checkered flag ahead of the pack.

Feature 1 – 15 Laps

Always a fan favorite, 14 cars took the green flag for the first of twin F8 races, although things got a little sticky fast as one of the leaders spun out just after the start. That left the No. 15 of Jereme Wall in sole possession of the lead, although the No. 3 of Michael Wolfe Jr. shot after him, trying to take the top spot away on the first lap using a daring inside-line move. Wall managed to keep the lead for a few more laps until Wolfe finally got the advantage, taking the lead away as the No. 18 of Dennis Stepanich III followed him through (but not before taking out a cone and dragging it with him for a few laps). Wolfe gapped Stepanich as Wall fell back. Wolfe continued to lead a single-file line as action in the track’s crossroads heated up, forcing the frontrunners to decide whether to keep it matted or let off. Wolfe bided his time and drove a clean race, shooting back through The X one final time to capture his first win of the season.

Feature 2 – 20 Laps

Headed by the No. 67 of Kylan Swenson and the No. 17 of Harry Livermore, the F8 field took the green for its second feature. After a chaotic start, Swenson claimed the lead for the first lap, but quickly found himself in Wolfe’s crosshairs. Wolfe, picking up right where he left off, took the lead at the stripe on Lap 4, settling in and letting his race car do what it did best. A couple race cars made contact, sending one spinning and putting Wall at the back of the pack for the restart. Wolfe kept his claws in the lead, pulling away from Swenson as Wall began a determined forward march through the pack. Dodging slower traffic through The X, Wolfe kept distance on the pack, even as they jostled and spun behind him. Stepanich took control of P2 and launched after Wolfe, but the driver of the No. 3 was on a hot streak and did not let up, sweeping the night’s F8 events.

Without our partners, fans, sponsors, crews, employees, and of course, our drivers, CNS couldn’t make this happen week in and week out. We’ve got a lot of racing ahead of us yet, so be sure to get your tickets HERE to check out the action for yourself.
