Neff, Medina, Dempwolf, and Martinez, all win on first race of summer at CNS

Snap-On Tools Pro Trucks The full moon in Dacono shined brightly on the Pro Truck division feature event as the race was filled with spins, crashes, and tempers flaring. #11 Steve Johnson and #5 Troy Whittar started on the front row but both were involved in altercations early in the race ending their shot at taking the checkered. #27 Roger “the ice-man” Avants lead the first segment of the race but after a caution for debris on the track #41 Mark Neff took the lead and #34 Rudy Vanderwal was right behind fighting for the position. Halfway through the race and it seemed that just about every truck in the race had at least one quarter-panel hanging off their vehicle from all the bumping and banging. As the laps wound down Vanderwal nudged the green truck of Neff in turn two moving him out of the way to take the top spot. Neff was clearly unhappy with that move and let Vanderwal know during a caution flag that was brought out by an altercation between Avants and #06 Adam Hilton. On the restart the determined Neff regained the lead and this time around Vanderwal gave him plenty of room which landed Neff in winner’s circle and just 3 points behind Vanderwal in the season points chase. Vanderwal took 2nd place, Avants held off a charging #36 Matt Burton to take 3rd. Just behind Burton in 4th rookie driver #2 Alan Warren had an impressive top 5 finish.

Race Central Media Legend Cars A huge field of Legend Cars lined up for a special 40 lap feature event with #3 Wayne Barlock Jr. and #66 Kyle Clegg on the front row. #15 Danny Medina quickly moved to the front from his 2nd row starting spot but he had #58 of Kyle Ray who started 6th hot on his tail. In the first 10 laps of the race it appeared as if Ray was the faster car but he couldn’t find his way around Medina who was beginning to encounter lapped traffic. Just before the halfway mark of the race a great battle for 4th place had the fans cheering as #22 Chris Eggleston, #3 Wayne Barlock, #06 Mike Gallegos, #6 Scotty Scott, and #34 Chris Cooper were all in a tight bunch fighting for the spot as well as passing slower cars. Bad luck for 2nd place Ray as he slowed on the track and brought out the caution flag ending his night. Ray’s misfortune was good news for Clegg who wanted his shot at passing Medina but on the restart it was Eggleston who jumped out into 2nd and began to pursue the leader. In the last stage of the race the blue #34 of Chris “mini coop” Cooper became the car to watch as he powered his way into 2nd place and began to pressure Medina for the lead. Lap after lap Cooper would dive into the corner in turn 3 and poke his nose under the leader. But the crafty veteran was not about to relinquish his lead as Medina went on to take another win in what was a very exciting 40 lap feature event. Cooper finished right behind in 2nd, Gallegos took the 3rd spot, Clegg was 4th and Barlock Jr. secured the final spot in the top 5.

Lincoln College Pure Stocks In just their 2nd appearance at CNS the brand-new Pure Stock division is for drivers just getting their feet wet in auto racing but the races have been some of the best at the track this season. #06 Jeff Dempwolf and #13 Jamie Ward picked up where they left off in their last appearance battling for the lead for the duration of the race. Yet tonight the best race on the track was for 3rd position as #14 Brandon McCormick, #84 Daniel Mares, and #10 Mike Bellomy, were trading positions throughout the race. Dempwolf went on to take the win in his white station wagon with Ward close behind in 2nd.

Arts Septic Figure 8s The Figure 8 cars were back on the track and the full moon must have had the drivers in an especially daring mood as the race was filled with amazingly close misses in the X. The drivers weaved through each other at full speed sending nervous cheers through the crowd. #69 Princess Tammy from Commerce City could have filled an entire highlight reel as she made near miss after near miss. #50 Justin Mackeachie, #15 Jereme Wall, and #52 Jared Wall, were drifting out of each turn sending clouds of white tire smoke into the air in dramatic fashion. Remarkably the race went caution free and is a testament to the skill and bravery of the drivers in the Figure 8 division. Taking home the win was #26 Nick Martinez with #17 harry Livermore Jr. close behind.
