Dacono, CO ~ June 29, 2024
The 4th of July is always a big deal at Colorado National Speedway – we even start celebrating before June is out! On Saturday, June 29th, 2024, incredible car counts took to the track at Colorado’s premier short-track racing venue, unleashing Figure 8s, Bandoleros, Super Late Models, and Legends in front of a packed house of fans. Even though rain put a damper on the final event and claimed the SLM race, there was plenty of adrenaline-inducing racing to watch before Mother Nature got her hands on things.

Fast Dash – 10 Laps
Heading to the green, the No. 4 of Dillon Foster emerged as the leader, but the No. 15 of Danny Medina quickly muscled past him and settled into the lead himself. The pack was two-wide behind him, and Foster, out of the lead, began to fade, falling into fourth behind the No. 16 of Travis Roe. Roe kept right on Medina’s bumper for a few laps, but ultimately fell behind and commanded second place. The No. 88 of Cade Fox and No. 12 of Bryanna Bruce battled side-by-side for fifth as the No. 6 of Larrell Scott lined up a shot at them both but couldn’t make the pass. The top three strung out evenly, about six car-lengths apart, following Medina, who maintained the lead. While Medina led the pack under the checkers, Turn 4 played host to a dramatic wreck as the No. 17 of Jeremy Krueger was struck by the No. 75 of Austin Hackenberg. The two cars hit at the perfect angle to send Krueger up and over in Turn 4 before coming to a rest in the middle of the track. Both drivers were ok after the scary incident. Medina was credited with the victory.
Dash – 10 Laps
After the first start was waved off, the No. 21L of Madilyn Lange took off, neatly slicing in front of the No. 33 of Dillyn Kellogg before settling into a comfortable lead. From a few rows back, the No. 62 of Erik Bain mounted a charge on the outside, clearing two cars for fourth. A neat pass on the inside put Kellogg to the top, and Lange faded a bit, dropping to third place as the No. 14 of Jake Nutall completed the pass. A brief caution flew to address a car that spun out, and when they took the green, Kellogg powered around on the outside with help from Bain. Bain then got held up by Lange, falling in behind her as they continued to chase Kellogg, but to no avail – Kellogg went on to win.
Feature – 25 Laps
by Scott. Just one lap in, a few cars tangled in Turn 2; neutralizing the field as the wrecked cars had to be addressed. This resulted in a red flag, but a crew of CNS Officials made short work of the cleanup and racing soon resumed. The restart put Fox back up front in a heartbeat, but Scott once again gave chase. From third on back, the field battled two-wide; again culminating in contact between several cars including the No. 00 of Chris Saykally, who caught a little bit of air before coming to rest back on all four tires.
The race restarted and Fox lunged into the lead once again, but he couldn’t quite put as much distance down on the pack. To Fox’s advantage, the No. 03 of Darrell L. Stewart and Scott held each other up fighting for second, allowing Fox to get away with the lead. Then, trouble in Turn 3 – four cars ended up along the wall in the exact same spot as the previous incident. The race was red flagged for cleanup. Fox took over the lead once again, but Scott leaned on his left rear, finally taking the lead out of Turn 4, but not for long. The No. 15 of Danny Medina galloped around the lead two cars. Fox faded to fourth place. The pack found a groove and fell in single file behind Medina, who had his hands full of the tail end of the field. Further back, Fox pressured Scott for P3, but was unable to complete the pass as they closed on Stewart for P2. Medina kept his lead without challenge from there, leading all the way to the white before rounding the track once more to take the victory, sweeping the Legends Fast Dash, Quick Time, and Feature.

Dash – 10 Laps
The No. 71, driven by Isaac Martinez, took off when the green flag fell, leading the No. 3 of Michael Wolfe Jr., the No. 38 of Javon Barnard, and the No. 15 of Jereme Wall as they dove through The X for the first time. Wolfe quickly caught Martinez and began to wear out his rear bumper, looking for a way around. He got the chance when Martinez pushed wide and lost speed. Catching the tail end of the field in the X, Wolfe got the lead and ran off with it. The track was filled with cars in every corner, making for an exciting show as they had to decide whether to stand on the brake pedal or the accelerator. For fourth, three cars got side-by-side in The X with Wall on on the outside – he narrowly zagged out of the way of another car coming the opposite direction. Unfazed, Wolfe shot around the twisting track to take the Dash win.
Feature – 20 Laps
At the start, the No. 17 of Harry Livermore Jr. took off with the race lead as soon as the green flag dropped. The No. 67 of Kylan Swenson spun out shortly thereafter but was able to collect it and continue without delay. It didn’t take long for the field to get strung out single file; setting the stage for some more drama in The X. Then, a caution waved for the No. 8 of Cassidy Creekmore, which had slowed in Turn 2 trying to exit the racetrack. Once the stalled race car was cleared, the field was turned loose single file. Stepanich charged forward at the drop of the green, giving Livermore a run for the lead. Not to be outdone, Wolfe powered toward the leader, tapping Stepanich as both cars snapped loose, but they got them pointed back in the right direction - just in time for a caution as the No. 64 of Michael Kephart and the No. 6C of Cody Palmore made contact, sending the latter spinning at the entrance to The X.
On the restart, Stepanich reassumed the lead, but he swung a little wide heading into The X after a few laps, allowing Wolfe the opening he needed to take control of the race. They continued to battle side by side while Wall trailed them both, waiting for an opportunity to get around them. The pack began to get spread out, and Wolfe hammered it through The X, not lifting at and narrowly missing the tail end of the field. Stepanich also weaved through a couple cars in The X, testing his luck, until he spun out, surrendering second place and rejoining the fray at the end of the field. Still up front, Wolfe clearly wanted the feature win badly – he put a straightaway down between himself and Wall, the class of the field for the night. He sent it through The X one more time, narrowly missing opposing traffic, laser focused on the checkered flag – and he crossed the line with one hand on the wheel, the other held out the window in celebration.

Fast Dash – 10 Laps
Fans were on their feet throughout the SLM Dash for some of the best racing of the night. Off like shot, the No. 32 of Brett Yackey and the No. 22 of Chris Eggleston wore each other out up front, while the No. 11 of Darren Robertson bobbed in Turn 3 but kept it together, reducing him to last place. Yackey edged ahead of Eggleston, but not for long; Eggleston battled back on the bottom but couldn’t get past Yackey. Heading to the checkered flag, Eggleston looked to the inside again, but it would Yackey holding onto it on the outside.
Dash – 10 Laps
A four-car breakaway stuck together for the lead as soon as the green dropped, headed by the No. 29 of Matt Brunker. However, Bruce Yackey in the No. 12 tried to look outside, while the No. 24G of Nathan Gasser and the No. 22Y of Brian Yackey stalked them both, waiting for them to wear each other out. Bruce Yackey worked the high side trying to shake Brunker, but Brunker gave Bruce Yackey a run for his money and held down the bottommost lane. Finally, Bruce got ahead of Brunker. while Brian Yackey and Gasser couldn’t shake each other for third. The rest of the field fell single file behind them. Out of the lead, Brunker began to fade as Bruce Yackey ran off with the top spot. Bruce Yackey led the rest of the way to the checkered flag, earning the Dash win.
Feature – 76 Scheduled Laps, Shortened Due To Rain
The scheduled 76-lap SLM Feature (to honor 1776, the birth of the U.S.A.) was unfortunately cut short due to weather, but we were able to get a handful of laps in. The No. 3 of John Negri III led to the green, but his engine went up in smoke before the race could find any momentum; spewing fluid onto the track before he could safely exit. On Lap 7, Roberston tried to go to the inside of Bruce Yackey, but the latter spun out and collected the No. 37 of Ethan Hunter. A red flag was called to address the incident and ensure the safety of the involved drivers, and while the red was displayed, the sky opened up and drenched the track. The track was lost just seven laps in, and with a lengthy rain shower and no possibility of drying the track, NASCAR officials had no choice but to call the remainder of the race.

Outlaws
Dash - 10 Laps
During the Dash, the Bandolero Outlaws scattered two- and three-wide on the green flag. No. 12, Aspyn Lange, emerged as the leader, even as the No. 6 spun and backed into the infield hills, but stayed clear of the racing surface. Lange continued to lead as a battle for fourth place shaped up between No. 60 of Liam Hammond and No. 08 Tanner McKim; McKim got hung out to dry and plummeted, letting Hammond get away with the position. Lange began to lap the tail end of the field by halfway, but kept up the pace, guiding her purple machine around the speedway. Tires squealing, Lange led flag-to-flag to win.
Feature - 10 Laps
During the Feature, Lange shot into the lead after No. 89 of Justin Barnard spun from the lead. Darting around slower traffic, Lange continued to show the way, laying down 10 car-lengths on the second place No. 60, Liam Hammond. Even so, Hammond kept up the pace, taking advantage of Lange, who was slowed up by a lapped car as the laps ticked down. Lange pushed wide heading toward the finish, allowing Hammond the chance he needed to scrape by at the last possible second, earning the Feature trophy.
Bandits
Fast Dash - 10 Laps
In the Fast Dash, things got off to a chaotic start when the two cars who started on the front row – the No. 98 Kyleigh Novak and No. 95 Jaxon Muhler – got into each other, causing them to spin and contact the No. 14 Austin Steinke. Steinke ended up losing a wheel, but no caution was thrown. Muhler pulled off the track, and through all the insanity, the No. 07 of Madison Stanley emerged as the leader. She continued to lead by a large margin and snagged the win.
Dash - 10 Laps
The Dash saw the No. 96 of James Snyder and No. 72 Connor Kellogg start on the front row. Two cars – the No. 84 Kaylie Snyder and No. 77 Scarlett Jones – contacted each other heading into the first turn, while Kellogg accidentally made a trip around the whole oval rather than the half-oval. Snyder settled into the lead, and by the halfway point, the field had settled into a single-file line behind him, though the No. 24 of Ayva Snyder put forth an incredible effort to track him down. James Snyder went on to take the checkers first.
Feature - 10 Laps
Stanley started on the front row for the Feature event, leading the No. 29 of Nora Smith through the first lap. Jaxon Muhler, meanwhile, put the No. 95 through the pack, splitting slower cars as he reeled in Stanley. Stanley and Muhler went side-by-side as they dodged slower traffic, clinging to one another as they rounded the short track, but Muhler showed his prowess and eventually completed the pass. Stanley didn’t let him go easy, but wound up second when the checkers flew on Muhler.
