Robertson Recovers From Early Crash to Win on Dacono Night

(Dacono 05-14-2016) On an extremely cold spring evening at CNS Darrin Robertson made an amazing run to victory in the Gillet Vet Clinic Super Late Models after being involved in an early crash and coming from dead last to win the 40 lap main event. First time winner Brady Balderston led every lap of the SUNOCO Fuels Grand American Modified feature event and Michael Cox took home the Great Scott’s Eatery Super Stock feature. Jereme Wall picked up his second straight Chick-Fil-A Figure 8 main event win of the 2016 season.

A fantastic field of 20 Gillet Vet Clinic Super Late Models were on-hand for the Frames in Motion Dacono night and #78 Darren Crocker and #12 Bruce Yackey paced the field for the 40 lap feature event. On the second lap disaster struck as Crocker, Yackey, and #84 Matt Zwingleberg made contact coming out of turn two. As Crocker spun around the entire field plowed into the cars up-front sending drivers and cars in every direction. When the dust settled #33 Emett Grazier’s night was done and #80 Ray Daniels had to be loaded onto the wrecker while most of the other cars were able to continue. Both Darren Robertson in the #11 and Brett Yackey in the #32 darted into the pits to make quick repairs placing them at the rear of the field on the restart. Crocker, Zwingleberg, and #6 Dominic Ursetta stayed on the track and were able to continue with cosmetic damage.

When the cleanup was complete #12 Bruce Yackey grabbed the lead on the restart with #08 Jace Hansen, #22 Chris Eggleston, and Ursetta close behind. After another caution for debris on the track and a spin by #16 Ryan McFadden Jace Hansen was nosing his way out front on the outside of Yackey in a intense battle for the lead. Even more amazing was that Darren Robertson was back in the top 5 after restarting dead last and with a car that appeared to be held together with duct tape.

Robertson then used another late race caution to pass Ursetta, Jace Hansen, and eventually Yackey on the outside to take the lead of the race. Dominic Ursetta who started 10th in the feature was now in 2nd and staring to gain on Robertson for the top spot but it was Darren’s night as he powered his way to the checkered flag in an incredible run from the rear. Ursetta finished a strong 2nd, Yackey settled for 3rd place with Jace Hansen and Darrin Crocker in fourth and fifth.

SUNOCO Race Fuels Grand American Modifieds

57b Brady Balderston shocked the field in the SUNOCO Race Fuels Gand American Modified division by leading all 25 laps of the main event and taking his first ever feature win. Brady ran smooth and navigated traffic perfectly dominating the race from flag to flag. Cheyenne’s Darin Clark in the #13 car also ran strong taking second place holding off #58 Kyle Ray who finished third. A pair of drivers from Brighton Colorado #44 Justin Case and #88 Jeff Walbaum finished fourth and fifth.

Great Scott’s Eatery Super Stocks

Right at the start of the Great Scott’s Eatery Super Stock main event there was a crash at the front of the field as #18 Robert Davey climbed up and over #43 Kody Vanderwal coming out of turn two. Davey slid against the back straight wall sending a shower of sparks high into the air until he came to a rest entering turn three. Amazingly the rest of the field maneuvered around the trouble and only Davey would have to leave the track with damage. When the green flag dropped for a second time it was #30 Jared Keaner who was leading the field with #43 Kody Vanderwal and #22 Brian Yackey battling for 3rd place. Once Yackey got around Vanderwal he and Keaner raced side by side for several laps putting on a great show for the fans.

Yackey got by Keaner to take the lead and eventually the checkered flag which would have been his first win at CNS but was disqualified in a post race technical inspection. Former division champ #3 Michael Cox was awarded the win with #75 Levi Greenly from Kersey CO in second, #30 Jared Keener from Westminster in third, #43 Kody Vanderwal from LaSalle in fourth and #9 Curtis Heldenbrand from Arvada in the final spot in the top five.

Chick-fil-A Figure 8s

Fourteen Chick-fil-A Figure 8s were on hand for Dacono night and fast dash winner #50 Justin McKeachie was on the pole to start the 20 lap feature event. A caution flag came out early after #12 Harvey Webb Jr. and #10 Frank Gastineau tangled in turn one. When the race resumed McKeachie took complete control over the race and took a massive lead on the field. After a brief battle with #9 Brent Cave #15 Jereme Wall took over second place. Wall had come all the way from his 10th starting spot to take the position but he was still well behind the leader.

Behind McKeachie and Wall, Brent Cave, #4 Sean Smith and #17 Harry Livermore Jr battled for the 3rd spot with Livermore eventually earning the spot. The CNS crowd was treated to some incredible action in the X with cars making daring close calls lap after lap.

Late in the race #69 Princess Tammy spun in the X and was unable to get going before the yellow flag came out. This was the break that Jereme Wall was looking for as he would now get to restart directly behind McKeachie. Jereme didn’t waste the opportunity as he moved around the #50 car and grabbed his 2nd win of the 2016 season. McKeachie settled for 2nd place with Livermore, Smith, and #01 Michael Haywood rounding out the top five.
